China continues to break beef import records

It completed 770 thousand tons in the first quarter of the year, exceeding by 21.5% the volume entered in January-March 2023, which until now was the highest in history.

The price per ton was US$ 4,781 in the first quarter, reflecting a 10% drop compared to US$ 5,315 in the same period of 2023.

In March the price per ton rose by about US$200, from US$4,669 in February to US$4,875, interrupting a two-month bearish streak.

According to the General Administration of Customs of China, imports in March exceeded by 14% the tons imported in the same month of the previous year and the increase in value was 7.4% for a total of US$ 1,170 million.

Pork imports fell 39% to 90,000 tons in March and totaled 260,000 in the first quarter, a 51% drop compared to the 530,000 imported in January-March 2023.
