Danish Crown: Experienced food executive at the head of UK business

With a background as first sales director and most recently CEO in the food industry, Jamie Dunning takes up the newly created position as CEO of Danish Crown UK with extensive knowledge of the British retail trade.

“We have worked very hard to find a profile for the job who has extensive experience in both sales and production - and not least in creating growth. We have found that in Jamie Dunning, who comes to Danish Crown with a very broad experience and a great understanding of what it takes to create growth in a food company. And that is exactly what we need in our British business. At the same time, he actually has in-depth knowledge of agriculture, and I only see that as an advantage”, says Niels Ulrich Duedahl, Group CEO at Danish Crown.

During his childhood, and until he graduated from university, Jamie Dunning earned his living by working in agriculture - first on his grandfather's farm and later with a local farmer.

After university, Jamie Dunning began his career at confectionery giant Cadburys, where he worked for several years in production and later focused on sales and marketing. From there he joined Mars, where he was initially responsible for selling chocolate to the UK retail market. He later moved to the US and was responsible for transforming M&M's flagship stores, before returning to the UK and taking a leading role in Mars' UK business.

Most recently, Jamie Dunning was CEO of the doughnut chain Krispy Kreme in the UK and Ireland with 140 stores, 16 bakeries and 2,000 employees.

"I have farming in my blood, so it's actually a bit of a dream for me to work in a farmer-owned food company. At the same time, the task of solving the challenges and creating growth in Danish Crown UK really motivates me, so I'm really looking forward to starting the job", says Jamie Dunning.

Danish Crown's UK business has around 1,000 employees and generates annual revenue of around DKK 4 billion. Danish Crown UK has been identified as a growth case for the group and will be developed with a strong local management team that is fully focused on running the UK factories efficiently and servicing customers throughout the UK.

"The UK has a huge need to import food, and they actually import around half of all the bacon they eat. Danish pork is very much in the minds of the British retail trade, but we have neglected to develop our position for a number of years. This needs to change, and that is why our goal is to double our British business over the next five years. In my opinion, Jamie Dunning has exactly the right skills for this task", says Niels Ulrich Duedahl.

"It is essential that we constantly understand how to develop our offering to British customers. This can happen in many ways. Of course, innovation is not up for discussion, but for me it is also important that we come up with the right mindset and values so that we deliver the right service and are an attractive partner in the long term. In that context, it is fantastic to see how Danish Crown's owners work with sustainability, so I am looking forward to getting started", says Jamie Dunning.

Jamie Dunning will take office on September 1.
