Ten years after he first arrived in Romania, Samuel Wiedmer, General Manager of Karpaten Meat, is one of the representative producers of cattle and beef in the country, running a business that is entirely based on Angus cattle.
"I'm originally from Switzerland. I came from cattle business and I saw the big potential that Romania has on land availability, pasture land and the great opportunity for cattle farming", remembers Mr Wiedmer.
From that perspective, World Angus Forum made it clear: Romania is the European country with the fastest rate of population growth for Aberdeen Angus cattle population. It stands now at 126% increase in population compared to number existing just a few years ago. What needs to be done in the future, in this line of business, is to create a structure from the farm to the fork in order to better promote the Romanian Angus beef, explain Samuel Wiedmer in a speech held at the event "[Romanian] Meat Industry on the shelf" organized by Industria Carnii magazine.
"To have a successful beef production in a country like Romania you need a structure from the farm to the table fork and this is a long way. We've seen in the last years that Romanian farmers are interested in produce a product that can be absorbed by the market but the needs of quality in all the markets will grow.", added the Swiss investor, mentioning that his company has developed a partnership program with more than 600 local farmers.
