Global pork demand increases slightly
Global pork consumption will change only slightly, so overall demand for pork is expected to remain stable in 2025. The Agricultural Market Information Company (AMI) currently reports that the increase will be a manageable 0.2 percent worldwide. According to a preliminary forecast, global pork consumption will total 125 million tons.
In China, the world's largest pork consumer, a slight decline of 0.1 percent is expected. Total consumption is expected to be 58.2 million tons. The second-largest pork consumer is the EU, with a total of 18.2 million tons. Consumption there is expected to decline by 0.7 percent. The reasons cited are the increasing demand for organically and ethically produced pork due to growing awareness of animal welfare and the environment.
In contrast, increasing pork consumption is expected in the USA, Russia, Vietnam, and Mexico. In the USA, demand is expected to rise by 1.7 percent to a total of 10.1 million tons. In Russia, consumption is forecast to reach 4.1 million tons in 2025, representing an increase of 1.1 percent. In Vietnam and Mexico, demand increases of 2.8 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively, are expected for the current calendar year. Global per capita pork consumption totaled 15.3 kg in 2024 and is forecast to increase by 100 g.
