ABIEC strengthens Brazilian Beef's presence in Indonesia and Malaysia

The Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (ABIEC) was present on Southeast Asia's business agenda, joining the official mission led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Indonesia and Malaysia. During the Indonesia-Brazil Business Forum, held in Jakarta and promoted by ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), ABIEC brought together the largest delegation of the mission, with approximately 30 member companies, demonstrating the strength and representativeness of the Brazilian beef export sector.

The participating companies were: Astrafoods, Barra Mansa, Better Beef, Cooperfrigu, Frigoestrela, Frisa, Iguatemi, JBS/Friboi, LKJ, Masterboi, Mercúrio, Naturafrig, BMRF, Pantanal, Plena, Prima Foods, Ramax, Rio Maria, Supremo, and Frisacre. The group participated in meetings with local authorities and investors, exploring new opportunities for Brazilian products in one of the most dynamic markets in ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).

During the event, ABIEC President Roberto Perosa also participated in Panel II – Sustainable Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security, alongside representatives from ApexBrasil, ABPA, Grupo Tristão, and AsiaBeef. The discussion highlighted Brazil's strategic role as a global supplier of safe, sustainable, and highly traceable food.

To celebrate this partnership, ABIEC also hosted the first Brazilian Beef Dinner in Indonesia, in partnership with ApexBrasil and with the support of AsiaBeef. This event combined tradition, quality, and relationships, reinforcing Brazil's role as a global leader in halal production and beef exports.

"This mission reinforced ABIEC's commitment to taking Brazilian Beef even further, strengthening dialogue with governments and companies in Asia and demonstrating to the world the quality, sustainability, and reliability of Brazilian beef", said Roberto Perosa, president of ABIEC.

The agenda also included meetings with importers, other agricultural associations and meetings with state ministers, including Brazil's Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro.

Brazil-Malaysia Business Forum

The business mission then continued to Kuala Lumpur, where the Brazil–Malaysia Business Forum took place, also sponsored by ApexBrasil and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. ABIEC once again participated with the largest Brazilian delegation, represented by companies such as Mercúrio, Pantanal, Iguatemi, Masterboi, JBS, MBRF, Frisacre, Naturafrig, and Plena Alimentos. The organization was led by Julio Ramos, Director of Strategic Affairs, representing President Roberto Perosa.

The Brazil–Malaysia Business Summit brought together leaders from both countries and highlighted the growth of exports and new opportunities in sectors such as energy, agribusiness, and innovation. ABIEC's presence reinforced Brazil's role as a strategic and reliable partner for the global protein supply.

Bilateral Trade

Between January and September 2025, Brazilian beef trade with Indonesia and Malaysia expanded significantly, solidifying both countries as strategic markets in Southeast Asia. Brazil exported US$76 million and 17,000 tons to Indonesia, a significant increase compared to 2024, positioning itself as the third largest supplier after Australia and India. Brazilian exports to Malaysia totaled US$46 million and over 15,000 tons through September, a 32% increase in value and 15% in volume over the same period the previous year. Both markets recognize Brazil as a supplier of safe, competitive, and halal beef, highlighting the advancement of health certifications and protocols that expand access to new products and commercial opportunities in the region.
