ABPA welcomes MAPA's announcement on Singapore's opening to egg products
The new accreditation is the result of joint work led by Minister Fávaro, with technical support from the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations, headed by Luís Rua, and the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense, led by Carlos Goulart. The recognition by Singaporean authorities solidifies Brazil's position among the countries qualified to supply processed animal products to one of Asia's most demanding markets.
With a high-income population and a strong food culture, Singapore relies on imports to ensure its domestic supply. In 2024, the country imported approximately 518 million eggs, equivalent to approximately 31,000 tons, primarily from Thailand and Indonesia. Of this total, only 2,500 tons were processed eggs (egg products) – a product with significant growth potential, especially given the importance of the HORECA (Hotel, Restaurant, and Catering) channel in the country.
According to ABPA president Ricardo Santin, with a vibrant gastronomic culture that blends haute cuisine and popular traditions (such as hawker centers), Singapore also attracts millions of tourists and boasts a large expatriate community. Economic stability and the demand for high-quality ingredients sustain demand for liquid, pasteurized eggs, and other egg products, with a focus on safety, convenience, and standardization. At the same time, it is a commercial distribution and port hub for Southeast Asia, which reinforces the market's strategic importance.
"Singapore's recognition of the Brazilian system increases the competitiveness of the production chain and positions Brazil at a new level within this market. It is an important achievement for the Minister, his Secretaries, and team, especially because it involves a product with higher added value, with the potential to open doors to new trade flows in the most demanding segments of the out-of-home food market", emphasizes Ricardo Santin.
