Bulgarian poultry production to grow by 5%
Poultry production in Bulgaria is expected to grow by 5% this year driven by increased demand for chicken meat and a decrease in pork production, according to a USDA forecast released this week.
"Consumer demand is likely to remain strong, particularly due to a likely decrease in pork production following African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks in the summer of 2019", mentioned the USDA office in Sofia, quoted by Agricensus. Last year, Bulgaria has increased its broiler production by 10% to 87,000 tonnes as the domestic demand has grown as well to 182,000 tonnes (+4%) due to higher purchasing power and the perception that poultry is healthier.

Last year, Bulgaria imported 113,574 tonnes of poultry, most of it chicken meat, and exported 48,320 tonnes, mostly duck meat.
