Chile accepts the entry of Spanish pork from areas free of swine fever
Chile accepted the entry of Spanish products from areas free of African swine fever (ASF), which means allowing the regionalization that had initially been rejected by the national authorities through the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG).
The latest information note from the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food reports that Chile recognizes the regionalization established by the EU, allowing the export of pork products from free zones that have been produced since December 4th.
Spain reported two cases of African swine fever in Barcelona (northeast) at the end of November, the first in the country for 31 years, which now total 13 positive cases in wild boars, so the authorities have focused their efforts on containing the outbreak.
Pork products produced before October 28 can also be exported to Chile.
In contrast, Chile suspended the import of fresh meat and other meat products if they were produced between October 28 and December 3 and have not undergone an ASF risk mitigation treatment.
It should be noted that Chile buys pork products from Spain for about 20 million euros annually, according to data consulted from Foreign Trade.
