China increases traceability requirements for many agricultural products

China recently announced a list of 2,589 agricultural products belonging to 20 product groups that require confirmation letters from the relevant authorities and commercial registration before being imported into the country.

The main product groups include seafood, fresh fruits and vegetables, spices, medicinal herbs, coffee, nuts, seedlings, cereals, tobacco leaves, animal feed, and animal products. This list is compiled based on the results of quarantine risk assessments for imported agricultural products and conforms to international practices. It includes clearly defined search methods to facilitate company declarations. Importing companies are responsible for fully and accurately declaring the foreign manufacturer's Chinese registration number on the customs declaration form. If a shipment contains multiple items, the registration number must be declared separately for each product and each related company.

According to Order 280, issued by the General Administration of Customs of China in October 2025, agricultural products and food imported into this market will be required to comply with stricter registration standards starting in mid-2026.
