Croatia seeks the green light for tuna and poultry exports to China

Croatian companies from fisheries and poultry sector are hoping to increase their presence in the Chinese market as the prices in this country are looking attractive to them.
Sardina, a processing fish factory that already exports canned sardines to China, is looking to get access in this market for tuna products and pressing the local authorities to sign a bilateral veterinary certificate.
Getting access to China was not an easy task for Sardina, as the company's sales director, Davor Gabela remembers. The procedures for gaining access have lasted almost 2 years and a half but, by now, the company managed to send two shipments of canned sardines to the port of Ningbo.
"It has been difficult to enter the Chinese market. We found a small Chinese distributor that is now trying to ensure larger channels for the distribution of our products. We hope the distributor will make it", says Gabela. The company hopes to export 2-3 million sardine cans to China in the next two years but also to deliver tuna products in this market. Sardina is already exporting tuna to Japan and is looking to increase its presence in Asia, declared Davor Gabela for Total Croatia News.
At the same time, poultry producers are pressuring the government officials to obtain the status of free-bird flu influenza country and to sign the veterinary agreement necessary to export their products into China.
