Dutch Plukon Food Group acquires Spanish poultry producer

VMR Group, one of the leading producers of poultry in Spain was recently acquired by the Dutch Plukon Foon Group. The deal is another step in consolidating Plukon's position in the European market, adding the plants of the Spanish enterprises to the others 18 owned by the Dutch company (5 plants in the Netherlands, 3 in Belgium, 5 in Germany, 1 in Poland and 4 in France).

According to Carnica magazine, Peter Poortinga, CEO of Plukon Food Group, stressed that "the acquisition of VMR is part of Plukon's plans to be a leader in the production and marketing of fresh poultry products in Europe. With the incorporation of Spain as the sixth country of action, Plukon has created a production and sales area in Europe with more than 260 million consumers, almost 60% of the EU inhabitants of the post-Brexit era."
VMR owns the brands "Gallus Gallus", "Frigallus" and "En un Tris" that are present in both in the national retail sector, as well as in traditional, industrial and foodservice commerce. Also, the Spanish company owns a distribution network, with which it serves its customers daily in Spain. The annual turnover reported in 2019 was about €100 million.
Plukon Food Group is a leader in the development of innovative concepts of food and chicken products in Europe. The Dutch Group achieved €1.8 billion in turnover last year and, with this new acquisition, is expected to reach €2 billion this year.
