Fish&Seafood is the next sector threatened by plant-based substitutes

Plant-based products that resemble canned fish and seafood have started to appear in Europe as the vegan trend is becoming more and more present in the region.
Vegan tuna or vegan salmon is no longer a surprise on the supermarket shelves from countries such as Poland or the Czech Republic. Sylwester Struzyna, head of BioPlanet, sees Poland as a niche market but admits that the potential group of consumers is growing. The popularity of vegan products is diversified regionally: demand is growing stronger in western Poland, reports Portal Spozywczy.
That could be explained by the German influence. According to the new Mintel study, the country maintained its leading position as the market with the highest percentage of global vegan food and drink products.
In Germany, vegan debuts are almost twice as frequent as vegetarian ones: 14% of all food and beverages launched on the market from July 2017 to June 2018 are vegan, while only 8% had vegetarian origins.
Worldwide, 5% of all food and drink products introduced to the market from July 2017 to June 2018 are vegan and 11% are vegetarian. While the number of vegetarian debuts has been relatively stable over the past few years, vegan ones have more than doubled in the last five years.
