Georgia reports bigger herds in the first part of 2018
During the first quarter of the year, Georgia reported an increase on the number of its livestock compared with the same period of 2017. The biggest advance was reported in the flocks of sheep and goats by 35.9%, according to the official statistics quoted by Georgia Today.
The growth is sustained by a strong demand from East Asian countries but there is also an increase in the number of beef cows (9.3%), pigs (7.7%) and poultry(4.1%).
Egg production in the first three months of the year has reached 161.7 million (+10.2%) while meat production has grown by 9.5%, to 15,000 tons. In April 2018, Georgia’s agricultural exports (including food) amounted to 52 mln USD, which is around 30% of total Georgian export value. While comparing this indicator to April 2017, it is 4% higher.
