Germany: ASF found in wild boar in the district of Oberspreewald-Lausitz

The Oberspreewald-Lausitz district has initiated the necessary control measures. A first risk-oriented search for fallen game was carried out at the weekend. In order to determine the exact extent of the outbreak, a large-scale search for fallen game is also carried out around the shooting location. In addition, building of a mobile wild boar fence has already begun.

The head of the state crisis management team for combating ASF, Secretary of State for Consumer Protection Anna Heyer-Stuffer : "Unfortunately, setbacks can be expected at any time when combating a wild animal disease. Because of the proximity to the epidemic, the district was already on the alert and reacted quickly. My sincere thanks for that. A good two years after the first ASF outbreak in the state of Brandenburg, we are on the right track, the control measures are having an effect, and the first restricted areas have been lifted. The task now is not to jeopardize these successes. I therefore appeal once again to all citizens: continue to close the gates in the fences and report damage to the local authorities immediately.”

According to current information from the Animal Disease Information System, the total number of confirmed ASF cases in wild boar in Germany is currently 4,439.
