The Interprofessional Agri-Food Organization of White Pigs ( INTERPORC ) is committed to a livestock industry in which artificial intelligence and Big Data are present in all processes of the value chain, from the farm to the final consumer, as an essential tool to improve efficiency, sustainability and decision-making in the pig sector.

INTERPORC is committed to integrating AI across the entire value chain

This was stated by its general director, Alberto Herranz, during his participation in the 16th Annual Vet+i Conference, held at the Rafael del Pino Auditorium in Madrid, which on this occasion focused on "The Implication of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and New Technologies in Animal Health".

During his speech at a roundtable discussion on the livestock industry of the future, Herranz stated that "AI and Big Data transform the noise of millions of farm data points into a melody of efficiency, sustainability, and animal welfare." Therefore, given that the digital revolution requires a shift in mindset to consistently make the best decisions, "the challenge is to integrate artificial intelligence into all processes, from the farm to consumers around the world."

The Director General of INTERPORC noted that the sector has moved "from intuition to concrete data", which allows for progress toward more efficient, traceable, and sustainable production. In this regard, he warned of the need for "the European Union not to impose impossible legislation that would reduce competitiveness against powers such as the United States or China".

He also emphasized that the application of AI on farms is key to attracting and retaining young talent. "Today, a farmer can feed his animals on the weekend from his mobile phone; that connects with a new, educated, and digital generation", he added.

The panel, moderated by María Jaureguízar, managing director of the Vet+i Foundation, also included the participation of Matilde Moro, manager of ASOPROVAC.
