In october China imported 85 000 tons of beef from Argentine

This year 730 thousand tons of beef with bone were shipped for 2,250 million dollars. In October, the volume reached 85 thousand tons, it was one of the highest of the year and if it continues at that rate this year, it would reach 900 thousand tons, exceeding the 840 thousand of last year reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and which generated an income to the country of 3,100 million dollars.

Even if the 2019 record is not exceeded, the level of sales of beef abroad is very good and that happens thanks to the supply needs of China. This was very clear from the October statistics. According to the report released by the ABC consortium, 81% of the total was sent to that country, which raised the average for the year to almost 75%.

China knows that it has the upper hand and uses different excuses -such as the detection of Covid-19 in boxes of already nationalized meat-, to generate fear and pressure on the values that this year were well below those of 2019. That to the less is what Argentine businessmen suppose.

In this sense, Mario Ravettino, the president of the ABC Consortium, said that "the changes in the Chinese market have caused fluctuations in the volumes sent, but undoubtedly the main change has been in prices."

"At the end of last year, the average value of frozen boneless meats exported to China reached almost 5700 dollars per tonne of product weight, while in the month mentioned it was 3777 dollars, 34% less," he explained.
