Iran's red meat output increased by 27%

Iran's red meat output for the nine-month of the Iranian calendar (21 November - 20 December) has grown y-o-y by 27% reaching 36,200 tonnes, according to the country's Statistical Center of Iran (SCI). Beef and veal remain the main types of red meat products produces (20,400 tonnes), followed by lamb and mutton (12,400 tonnes), goat (2,700 tonnes), and red meat from other livestock (709 tonnes).
Mansour Pourian, the head of Iran’s Livestock Provision Council has called on the government to purchase the red meat at guaranteed prices to support the producers. He also recommended the exports of livestock to support the producers while bringing foreign revenue for the country, according to the Tehran Times newspaper.
Since early July, the Iranian government has started to purchase red meat at guaranteed prices. So far, 4,000 tonnes of meat were bought in the programme. Iran’s deputy agriculture minister, Morteza Rezaei, has said that the total production of red and chicken meat is expected to reach 3.5 million tonnes by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (20 March), of which red meat accounts for 880,000 tonnes and the rest of 2.7 million tonnes consists in chicken meat. The official also mentioned that egg production is expected to reach 1,650,000 tonnes.
