Kuwait places ban on Romanian poultry
The Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources of Kuwait (PAAAFR) has banned imports of poultry from Djibouti, Mali and Romania due to an outbreak of bird flu in these countries. The authority said in a press release, Sunday, that it had lifted the ban on imports of all live birds, incubating eggs, chicks and chicken from Lithuania and Ireland following reports that they had become clear of any bird flu cases.
It affirmed that all such imports must be subject to the terms set by the Animal Health Department and regulations of the World Organization for Animal Health, in addition to those set by veterinary quarantines’ regulations applied in Kuwait and other GCC countries. It has further warned that any imported livestock, infected with epidemics, would be rejected and the importer will bear the costs of sending the sick animals back to the origin of importation, according to the Arab Times newspaper.
Last week a bird flu outbreak (H5N8) was confirmed in Romania and 180,000 birds were culled. The EU member state is one of the last inside the bloc that has to deal with avian influenza (AI). Other countries still impacted by the disease are Hungary, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germani, France, Poland, Denmark, Slovakia, Belgium and Sweden.
