Philippines officially opens market to Brazilian bone-in beef and offal
The announcement, made official by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) last week, culminates the work carried out by the association during a mission to the country last week, when Philippine authorities had already announced the decision.
Representing President Roberto Perosa in the country, ABIEC's Director of Strategic Affairs, Julio Ramos, led the association's mission and monitored negotiations with the Philippine government, led by the Brazilian Embassy, headed by Ambassador Gilberto Moura, and Agricultural Attaché Virgínia Carpi. The confirmation was given by Philippine Deputy Secretary of Livestock Benjamin Albarece during the Brazilian Beef Dinner, which brought together 200 guests and 20 member companies, consolidating an important achievement for the sector.
The mission also marked ABIEC's debut at WOFEX, the Philippines' largest food and beverage trade show, through the Brazilian Beef project, in partnership with ApexBrasil. The event served as a showcase to reinforce the quality and diversity of Brazilian beef to importers and local authorities.
During the program, the delegation held meetings with government representatives and Philippine business leaders, strengthening commercial and institutional ties that already position Brazil as the main supplier to the local market.
The Philippines already ranks sixth among Brazilian beef buyers and is the second-largest market in Southeast Asia. Brazil currently accounts for 40% of the country's imports, and expanded access should open up new business opportunities with higher-value cuts and offal.
