Romania: Meat production increases in June

According to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Romania's meat production increased in June 2025 across all animal species compared to the previous month.

Romania: Meat production increases in June

Compared to June 2024, meat production was up for pigs, sheep, goats, and poultry, but it decreased for cattle.

Pork Production

In June 2025, 301,000 pigs were slaughtered, a 5.99% increase from May 2025 (284,000 animals). Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of slaughters was 1.35% higher (up from 297,000 animals). Pork production totaled 26,701 tons in June 2025, a 2.1% increase from May 2025 and a 1.18% increase from the same month in 2024.

Poultry production

Poultry meat production saw a significant rise in June 2025, increasing by 19.56% compared to the previous month and by 13.72% compared to June 2024. Statistical data shows that 31.052 million birds were slaughtered in June 2025, a 23.91% increase from the previous month (25.060 million animals) and a 13.91% increase from June 2024 (27.261 million animals).

Beef production

Beef production in June totaled 6,657 tons, a 1.23% increase from May (6,576 tons of carcass). However, this represents a 3.06% decrease compared to June 2024, when production was 6,867 tons of carcass. The number of cattle slaughtered reached 40,000 in June, up 2.56% from 39,000 in May 2025. Compared to June 2024, the number of slaughters was down by 2.44%.

Sheep and goat production

Carcass weight for sheep and goats increased in June 2025 compared to both the previous month and June 2024. Production of sheep and goat meat was 4,126 tons in June, 12.95% higher than in May (3,653 tons). Compared to June 2024, production was up by 1.6%.

According to the INS, 305,000 sheep and goats were slaughtered in June 2025, fewer than in May (315,000 animals). In June 2024, the number of slaughtered sheep and goats totaled 311,000.

"The data refers exclusively to slaughtering for consumption", the INS specified.
