Romania increases meat imports by 14%

Romania reported an increased trade deficit as the meat and meat product imports are double than its exports, reports Agerpres news agency, quoting official statistical data. In the first five months of this year, meat and meat products imports accounted for more than €340 million, growing by 14.2% compared to the same period last year.
Meat an meat product exports reached €171.9 million, marking a year-on-year increase of only 2.4 %. Trade deficit on meat has been constant in Romania for several years, now reaching a value of €168.4 million in the first five months of the year. The situation could get worst in the next months as the country is confronted with an African Swine Fever outbreak that forced domestic producers to increase their imports of pork.
