Russia has imposed a temporary ban on pork imports from Bulgaria

Russia's agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor has announced that it introduced temporary restrictions on the import of pork from Bulgaria due to concerns regarding the African swine fever (ASF) outbreak detected in the Balkan state.

Russia has imposed a temporary ban on pork imports from Bulgaria

The restrictions apply also to live pigs, pig embryos and boar sperm, as well as sheep and goat products, as reported by Emerging Europe.

Still, Bulgarians will still be able to export to Russia pork products that have been made with technologies that ensures the elimination of the ASF virus. 

The Bulgarian authorities have announced that the necessary measures are being taken in order to eliminate the outbreak and to stop the spreading of the disease.

In August, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency also annnounced that a 130 kilometer fence is being buit on the border with Romania to stop the ASF disease from getting into the Bulgarian teritory.
