South Korea's seafood exports up by 16% in Q1

South Korea reported an increase in fish and seafood exports by 16.4% in the first three months of this year compared to the corresponding period from 2017, reaching an export value of $560 million, as reported by Fishupdate.

South Korea's seafood exports up by 16% in Q1

 

The Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans that the increase was based on a strong demand for tuna products.

Japan was South Korea's biggest importer of seafood, shipments to this market increasing by 4.3% in Q1 to $163 million. China imported more seafood by 13.6% in the mentioned period to $86 million due to a strong demand for crab and tuna.

Exports of Korean gim (dried laver) were up by 14.2% in Q1 compared to year-earlier levels, reaching a value of $123 million.
