The Interprofessional White Pork Association ( INTERPORC ) was one of the guests on the European Commission's high-level agri-food mission to Japan, a meeting the interprofessional took advantage of to strengthen the position of Spanish pork in one of the most demanding and strategic markets in the world.

Spanish pork participates in the European Commission's high-level mission to Japan

Held from June 8 to 13 in Tokyo and Osaka, this institutional event, led by European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen, brought together a select delegation of companies and associations from the European agri-food sector. The mission was part of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, which facilitates bilateral trade in key products such as pork.

The agenda included B2B meetings with Japanese importers, several institutional gatherings, and a promotional event at Expo 2025 Osaka. There, the European Pavilion served as a key showcase for European Union agri-food products.

In 2024, Japan was the fourth-largest destination for Spanish pork exports in terms of value and volume, and the second-largest outside the EU. In 2024, 191,853 tons were exported to this country, valued at €787.22 million, representing an 8.7% increase in volume and a 21.6% increase in value compared to the previous year. This increase is due, among other factors, to the quality, food safety, and sustainability of the Spanish production model, highly valued by Japanese authorities and consumers.

Our presence on this mission demonstrates the strength of the Spanish pork industry within the EU, as well as the sector's commitment to internationalization and strengthening key trade relations in Asia. Japan, due to its characteristics, represents a strategic opportunity for continued growth in a market that demands high-value products and the utmost food safety.
