German meat giant Tönnies Group is strengthening its position on the UK meat market by acquiring the British sausage producer Riverway Foods.

Toennies acquires UK sausage producer Riverway Foods

"Together with the Crosby family, we want to expand our market share in the UK," says Carsten Jacobsen, Managing Director responsible for the Tönnies UK market. "Riverway Foods quality products are a great fit with our other Becketts and Direct Table products."

Riverway Foods, the family-owned business which specializes in the sausage production for the British market, was founded in 1971 in Essex. The company markets its products to retailers such as Tesco and Sainsbury's.

The company grew successively in the following decades and managed to open in 1982 its the first own shop with a fresh counter in London. Its best known products are Cumberland Sausages.
