The number of bovine animals decreased by 0.7% compared to the previous year and is slightly above 18 million heads. Cattle herd has seen a decline of 0.6% reaching a total of 17.8 million animals, while the rest is completed by buffalo. For the last two years, Turkey has drastically reduced live animal imports as red meat consumption has declined due to inflation and COVID-19 restrictions. In January 2022, the consumer price index for food and non-alcoholic beverages was 55.61% higher than the one reported a year ago, with meat prices advancing by 25.07% for the last 12 months.
