Two countries are accounting for 82% of the global cattle market in 2018
Last year, Turkey has broken its own record in livestock imports, reaching a number of 1.2 million head, according to Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Ilhami Ozcan Aygun. In his opinion, the level of livestock imports is scary and unsustainable as it is 24 times over the figures reported in 2014 (50,000 cattle head). In fact, since then Turkey has gradually increased its cattle imports: 203,000 in 2015, 494,000 in 2016, and 896,000 in 2017.
The global trade with cattle has reached 3.78 million head last year, with the US being the world's largest importer (1.9 million head of cattle) followed by Turkey. Combined, the two countries are accounting for almost 82% of the world's cattle imports, according to Ahval News.
