VASEP: Taiwan increased its cephalopod imports from Vietnam by 85.3%

Vietnam's cephalopod exports to Taiwan were on a downward trend in 2017. However, in the first months of this year, the exports of this item to the market tend to increase continuously. Taiwan continues to be put in top 9 largest importers of Vietnam cephalopod, says Vietnam's Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

VASEP: Taiwan increased its cephalopod imports from Vietnam by 85.3%

VASEP stated that as of 15th Mar 2018, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to Taiwan valued at US$1.1 million, up 85.3% over the same period in 2017. Currently, Vietnam mainly shipped live/fresh/frozen squid to this market, accounting for 64% of total export value, followed by processed octopus products with 26%.

Vietnam currently ranked the second largest supplier of cephalopod to Taiwan, picking up 18% of the total import value. China ranked the first with 42%; Japan ranked the third with 13%, followed by Indonesia with 8%.

In 2017, cephalopod imports into Taiwan reached just over 2,000 MT, worth by US$10.8 million, down 95% in volume and 87% in value compared to 2016.
