Vietnam's pangasius exports reach $1.78 billion in 2017

Vietnam's exports of pangasius increased by 4.3% year-over-year in 2017, reaching a value of $1.78 billion and it is expected for 2018 this figure to hit a total $1.85 billion, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Vietnam's pangasius exports reach $1.78 billion in 2017

Vietnamese panagsius exports to China accounted for 23% from the total export value. Exports to this country increased by 34.8% in 2017 compared to the previous year, reaching $410.8 million.

On the other hand, pangasius exports to the US market and the EU continued to decline. Analysts at VASEP said that in the last month of 2017 pangasius exports decreased by 26% to the US and 24% to the EU, while the figure in 2017 reported a decline by 11% and 22.3% respectively compared to 2016.

Of the top 5 importers from the European Union, the UK imported by 2.5% more pangasius in 2017 compared to the previous year while exports to countries such as the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium reported a fall by 3.2%, 19.3% and 4.2% respectively in the same period.
