Spain's average consumption of fish and meat per capita reaches an annual 42 kilos and 51 kilos, respectively, according to latest data, as reported by lasexta.com.

Spain is Europe's third largest consumer of meat and fish

Spain is rated as the country with the third largest consumption of fish and meat in Europe, only after Portugal and Norway.

According to a survey from the Seafood Council, 70% of Spanish people consume fish twice a week, while 90% say they eat fish at least once a week.

The most popular types of fish in Spain are hake, salmon, cod, sole, sea bass, tuna, and swordfish.

On the other hand, according to Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, the average consumption of meat per capita is situated ar 1349 grams per day.

The most popular type of meat is of poultry origin, with an average consumption per capita of 38 grams per day, followed by pork and beef.

Furthermore, Spaniards also consume an average of 32 grams of processed meat per day. Most popular product in this segment is the cooked or cured ham.
