INAC will participate to Supermarkets Trade Show in Japan

This market is the fifth largest global importer of beef, accounting for 6% of global imports by value. 80% of beef imported into Japan comes from Australia and the United States.

Uruguay has sanitary authorization to export matured boneless beef to this destination. On average, Uruguay exports 35 million dollars annually, which represents 2% of our country's exports, and beef exports have been increasing at an average annual rate of 20% despite the 38.5% tariff that Uruguay faces.

This tariff is considerably higher than that of Australia and the United States, which enter with a preferential tariff of 21.6%.

In turn, in 2022 Uruguay acquired the authorization to export bovine tongues, an attractive achievement not only for the volume but also for the price reached by this product, which is positioned 55% above other markets.

In 2024, 80% of Uruguayan tongues exports were destined for Japan, equivalent to 17 million dollars.

For the presentation at the Supermarkets Trade Show, INAC is preparing a 72-square-meter stand where there will be tastings of beef tenderloin and ribeye steak, in three daily shifts.

This event is one of the largest food and beverage fairs in Japan, organized by the National Supermarket Association of that country.

Held annually, the trade fair will be celebrating its 59th anniversary in 2025. Last year's edition attracted almost 76,000 visitors and more than 3,500 exhibitors. This year, the trade fair will feature approximately 3,800 exhibitors from Japan and more than 15 other countries.

This edition will be the third consecutive participation of the Institute.

On February 12, the Embassy of Uruguay in Japan and the National Meat Institute will host a reception for the main importers and players in the sector where they will taste Uruguayan meat and wines.

The event, called "Promoting public-private relations between our markets," will be held at The Steak House Restaurant at the Ana Intercontinental Hotel in Tokyo. The cuts offered on this occasion will be sirloin, rib-eye steak and beef tongue in various preparations.
