48% increase in Brazilian pork exports

Brazilian pork exports have reached a total volume of 100,000 tonnes in July, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). This value exceeds by 47.9%  the shipments made in the same period of 2019, which totalled 67,900 tonnes. According to the president of ABPA, Francisco Turra, the whole of Asia is demanding a lot, especially China, which continues to be the main buyer of pork, poultry and beef. "We did not imagine that we could exceed 1 million tonnes exported this year, but in the first seven months alone there were 580 thousand tonnes. Last year, we exported 750 thousand tons. This year's performance is very strong," he said.
Turra projects a second half full of opportunities for Brazilian animal protein sector, since, according to him, the demand should continue to increase. In the last two months, increased demand for pork and poultry from China and other Asian countries has supported the prices in the Brazilian market. For the next three years, China's domestic production of pork is expected to remain low as the Chinese pig producers are fighting a war against the African Swine Fever (ASF).
