JBS Terminals' operations at the Port of Itajaí have grown 330% in a year and a half
Performance reinforces the trajectory of recovery for the port terminal and its relevance in the national waterway logistics network.
JBS Terminals has expanded its operational capacity at the Port of Itajaí by approximately 330% since the start of operations in October 2024. In a year and a half, the company handled more than 560,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), with an average monthly growth of 12%. This performance reinforces the recovery trajectory of the port terminal and its relevance in the national waterway logistics network.
“To reach this level, JBS Terminals invested in the asset. Today, more than 3,000 clients trust the company and the infrastructure offered at the Port of Itajaí as one of the main entry and exit points for international trade ,” says Aristides Russi Junior , president of JBS Terminals.
The performance of JBS Terminals at the Port of Itajaí is growing as a reflection of the consistent resumption of operations. In the first quarter of 2026, compared to the same period last year, there was an increase of over 60% in TEU traffic. The strategy for ramping up operations involves investments to enhance the terminal and a commercial focus on specific niches, such as meat, wood, machinery, and the automotive sector.
According to Russi, with the consistent growth in volumes and the expansion of the customer base, JBS Terminals is consolidating a new operational level at the Port of Itajaí and reinforcing the role of logistics infrastructure as a driver of regional and national economic development. “ Our commitment is to connect Itajaí and Santa Catarina to major global markets.”
Since the start of operations, the company has invested approximately R$ 220 million in technological modernization and infrastructure. This investment enabled the acquisition of two state-of-the-art mobile cranes, with a capacity of 125 tons and a reach of up to 20 rows of containers, increasing productivity in loading and unloading operations.
The strategy also strengthened the terminal's vocation for the protein and refrigerated cargo sector, with the installation of 1,708 outlets for reefers. The expansion of electrical capacity positions Itajaí as one of the main hubs for perishable products in the South of the country, meeting the demands of exporters and importers with a high standard of control.
In the land flow, the implementation of eight reversible gates – entry and exit accesses that can have their direction adjusted according to operational needs - brought significant gains in agility and reduction of queues, increasing efficiency in the integration between the port and highways.
Currently, the terminal has an operational area of 180,000 square meters, 1,030 meters of quay, and four berths with a depth of 14 meters. This structure allows it to operate with 10 regular shipping lines and seven weekly calls, connecting the state of Santa Catarina to strategic destinations in Asia, Europe, throughout the Americas, the Middle East, and Africa.
Reflecting the resumption of the Port of Itajaí as a strategic infrastructure, the volume of vessels served last year was 50% higher than that recorded in 2022, the period before the shutdown. This upward trend is consolidated in the first two months of 2026, which already shows a flow of ships 26% above the level prior to the interruption of activities. In total, JBS Terminals has accumulated approximately 400 calls in a year and a half of operation.”
