Spain: Pork consumption outside the home - a growing opportunity
This is because, in addition to the growth experienced in home consumption over the last two years, the catering sector is also beginning a new increase, with an upturn in demand for this type of meat, especially in fresh formats and
traditional dishes.
This analysis is the result of a market study conducted by Kantar for the Spanish Interprofessional Association of White Pork (INTERPORC), which analyzes consumption trends in the catering industry during 2024 and the first months of 2025.
Among its main findings, it highlights that pork represents 20% of the total volume of fresh meat consumed outside home, with dishes such as sandwiches, hamburgers, and sirloin steak among the most popular.
Furthermore, the increase in fresh pork penetration has increased from 56.7% to 57.4%, as well as the increase in consumption. Regarding processed meat, a 6.2% growth in volume was observed, driven by products such as cured Iberian ham and cured loin.
Regarding the consumer profile, this primarily corresponds to adults over 50, which poses the challenge of attracting younger audiences, especially in restaurants and organized catering.
INTERPORC emphasized that these results reinforce its commitment to promoting pork in the catering industry, focusing on an innovative, regionalized offering adapted to new consumer demands.
