5366 UK secures market access to Chile for pork sector The UK pig industry will be able to export products to Chile for the first time in a new deal worth an estimated £20 million over the first five years, according to AHDB.
Authorities in the South American country have today (17 March 2022) given the green light to 27 pork processing sites from across all four devolved nations to start commercial exports.

The UK has an association agreement with Chile, which largely maintains prior preferential trading arrangements and rules of origin. This means that UK pork exporters can benefit from the import tariff under the Most Favoured Nation tariff of 6%, subject to certain conditions.

Today’s announcement comes in a year of successful export wins, with Mexico opening its doors to British pork last September, in a deal estimated to be worth £50 million over the first five years of trade and sheep meat to the US, worth around £37 million.

AHDB International Market Development Director Dr Phil Hadley said: “This announcement is the latest in a run of successful market access wins for the red meat sector and is another example of the high regard and reputation our products command overseas. Opening the market for UK pork to Chile, following gaining access to Mexico, will provide our pig farmers and processors with another valuable market to sell their products, providing a much-needed boost for the sector.”

Farming Minister Victoria Prentis said: “The pig sector is facing a range of challenges and we must make use of all levers available to us. That includes new export markets, and it is great to see the Chilean market open its doors to our pig producers. This will be worth £20m over the next five years and will build on other measures we have introduced to bolster the industry.”

Pork production in Chile remained stagnant last year, with imports rising year after year for the last decade due to increased demand. As the second most consumed meat in Chile, consumption is expected to increase steadily, reaching an estimated 26.8 kg per capita by 2029.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-03-18 13:20:22 2025-10-05 11:23:30 Details Edit Delete
5382 Spray system replaces film interleaves for sliced products Greater efficiency, lower costs, less plastic and still the same taste and convenience: When MULTIVAC exhibits at the two leading trade fairs, Anuga FoodTec 2022 (Hall 8.1, Stand C010) and IFFA 2022 (Hall 11.1, Stand B11), it will be showing a future-proof solution for packing thinly sliced or very sticky sliced products as part of a slicer line. Thanks to MULTIVAC's innovative Sustainable Liquid Interleaving spray system, there is no requirement for the conventional interleaving film between the individual product slices, and the consumption of plastics during packing can therefore be reduced to the bare minimum.
This process has long been standard with bakery products and sweets. Now MULTIVAC is presenting a versatile spray system, which has been specially developed for packing sliced sausage, ham and cheese or vegan alternatives. The solution can even be used with wafer-thin cut portions (e.g. shaved meat), for which the classic interleaver is not suitable. The space-saving spray system can be easily integrated into new or existing slicer lines. The individual slices are presented very attractively in the pack. Above all however, the slices do not stick to each other, and they can be removed cleanly by the consumer.

The functioning principle is simple - and perfectly designed for the product

The precision nozzles on the new spray system atomise a liquid interleaving medium, which is both odourless and tasteless and can be tailored to the particular properties, e.g. fat content, of the sliced product. The interleaving medium is applied evenly to the underside of the slices. The taste, quality and shelf life of the product are not impaired.

The solution also however offers further benefits - particularly in terms of cost-effectiveness. “During our reference calculations, in which we simulated the slicing and packing of cheese, the typical film interleaves made of polystyrene generated total costs of around 3,800 euros per day. The daily costs for the interleaving liquid on the other hand amounted to only 425 euros - this equates to a saving of 85 percent,” explains Manfred Achenbach Senior Vice President of the Slicing Business Unit. The total time involved in refilling the interleaving liquid is up to 95 percent less than that for replenishing and threading the interleaver rolls. Other benefits of the spray system include: less storage space required, longer service life of slicer blades, and also less use of materials.

Trade fair exhibit

MULTIVAC will be showing the spray system at both trade fairs on a high-performance line featuring a slicer and thermoforming packaging machine. The modules for the automatic slicing, infeeding, packaging and labelling of the sliced product are integrated completely into one line, and they can all be operated efficiently and reliably from the HMI of the packaging machine or slicer thanks to the centralised MULTIVAC Line Control.

As part of the demo operation of the line, the product logs are sliced in multi-track format by the slicer, which also sprays each slice with the interleaving liquid. The individual portions are subsequently inspected on a checkweigher. Portions with the incorrect weight are ejected by means of a rocker for later weight correction by hand, while portions with the correct weight are conveyed onwards on a transport conveyor, before being grouped according to the format layout of the thermoforming packaging machine. The portions slide into the pack cavities during the advance, and the optimum loading results are achieved thanks to the flat loading angle. After the products have been packed under modified atmosphere, the MAP packs arrive at the cross web labellers, which apply the required labels to the top and base of the packs.

More added value

The technology has already been proven many times in practice. The spray system has been used successfully since 2018 on a MULTIVAC slicer at a dairy customer for interleaving cheese slices, and a ham producer uses this solution as well for extending the shelf life of his delicate products and intensifying their taste.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-03-28 08:30:42 2025-10-09 00:13:14 Details Edit Delete
5383 ASF situation in Germany: 3,634 ASF cases The number of officially confirmed cases of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boar in Germany has continued to rise over the past few weeks as a result of further discoveries. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the construction of the second ASF protective fence on the border with Poland is progressing.
In the past few days the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI) has identified further cases of ASF in wild boar in Brandenburg and Saxony. Most of the finds were recently found in the Spree-Neisse district in Brandenburg and in the Saxon district of Görlitz.

According to current information from the Animal Disease Information System, there are now a total of 3,634 confirmed cases of ASF in wild boar in Brandenburg, Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

So far, the cases of ASF in domestic pig herds have remained in the four affected farms.

According to a recent report by the Nordkurier, the construction of the second ASF protective fence on the German-Polish border is in progress. Around 20 kilometers of the second fence between Autobahn 11 near Pomellen and the Linken border crossing have been completed. The goal is a total of about 70 kilometers to the island of Usedom.

Claus Tantzen from the Mecklenburg-West Pomeranian Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment informed the Nordkurier that around 5 million euros were estimated for the second fence construction. The sum is not only made up of construction and material costs, but also includes the costs for inspection and repairs for a period of five years. For this purpose, professional hunters were hired to drive down the full length of the fences twice a week.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-03-28 09:17:22 2025-10-07 23:23:18 Details Edit Delete
5384 United States and Japan Reach an Agreement to Increase Beef Safeguard Trigger Level Under the U.S.-Japan Trade Agreement United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai and United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced that the United States and Japan have reached an agreement to increase the beef safeguard trigger level under the U.S.-Japan Trade Agreement. The new three-trigger safeguard mechanism will allow U.S. exporters to meet Japan’s growing demand for high-quality beef and reduce the probability that Japan will impose higher tariffs in the future.
“This agreement is a great win for our two countries that ensures American farmers and ranchers can continue to meet Japan’s growing demand for high-quality U.S. beef,” said Ambassador Katherine Tai. “I especially want to thank Ambassador Rahm Emanuel for his fierce determination to get this deal done. Today’s agreement is the latest example of the Biden-Harris Administration’s successful resolution of trade disputes with our partners that increases market access and economic opportunity for our producers and their workers.”

“This is a positive development for America’s farmers and ranchers. It allows for greater market-based growth in U.S. beef exports to Japan and reduces the probability of higher Japanese tariffs being imposed on U.S. goods,” said U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. “America’s farmers and ranchers have beef products that can compete anywhere in the globe and this announcement will allow them to demonstrate just that. I want to thank Ambassador Rahm Emanuel, Ambassador Katherine Tai and the entire team at USTR for their work to get this deal across the finish line.”

“This is a win-win for American ranchers and Japanese consumers,” said United States Ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel. “It ensures certainty for years and shows American beef can compete and win anywhere anytime.”

U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) President and CEO Dan Halstrom issued this statement:

“USMEF greatly appreciates the efforts of USTR and USDA to adjust Japan’s safeguard on U.S. beef. The U.S.-Japan Trade Agreement was a tremendous breakthrough for the U.S. meat industry, including the significant reduction in Japan’s tariffs on U.S. beef, but the playing field has not been entirely level due to this safeguard. The changes announced today reduce the potential impact of the safeguard and make it less disruptive for U.S. exporters and their customers in Japan.”

U.S. beef exports to Japan exceeded 320,000 metric tons in 2021 and set a new value record at $2.38 billion. But U.S. beef was subject to a higher tariff than its competitors for 30 days, from mid-March to mid-April, after imports exceeded the safeguard volume.

The agreement includes a new three-trigger mechanism whereby all three triggers must be hit in order for Japan to implement the safeguard and impose a higher tariff. The three triggers are:

Imports from the United States must exceed the original beef safeguard trigger level under the U.S.-Japan Trade Agreement;

The aggregate volume of beef imports from the United States and the original signatories of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) must exceed the CPTPP beef safeguard; and

Imports from the United States must exceed the total amount of beef imports from the United States during the previous year.

Both governments will work to finalize the text of the agreement reflecting the new trigger levels and complete their respective domestic procedures. The United States, in consultation with Japan, will publish the final text of the agreement at the soonest, appropriate time.

In 2021, the United States was the top beef exporting country in the world, with global sales of beef and beef products valued at over $10 billion. Exports of U.S. beef to Japan totaled almost $2.4 billion in 2021.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-03-28 10:06:01 2025-10-08 21:29:58 Details Edit Delete
5397 IAWS: Animal welfare. Part of the DNA of the white pork sector The white pork sector applies the European production model, the most demanding in the world in terms of animal welfare. From there, the sector has taken a step further by creating the INTERPORC Animal Welfare Spain (IAWS) certification, which has made it a world benchmark in animal welfare.
There are several aspects that are intrinsically part of the DNA of the Spanish pork sector: animal welfare, biosecurity, sustainability, food safety, rural development and international trade. All of them directly or indirectly enhanced by the IAWS certification.

Through the IAWS Animal Welfare and Biosecurity Technical Regulation companies are obliged to comply with the 8 control areas including all those aspects directly involved in the breeding and development of animals, transport and sacrifice, covering the entire life of the animals.

The IAWS certification is prepared and endorsed by a Scientific Committee of independent experts in animal welfare formed by 19 institutions from the university and research fields, audited by independent certification bodies, and whose transparency has been tested and validated by animal rights organizations; it is our way of being proactive and advancing in terms of animal welfare.

Finally, besides the importance of sector agents complying with the requirements of the IAWS Technical Regulation, it is equally necessary to involve consumers in the initiative and offer them clear and rigorous information on all the efforts that the pork sector dedicates to production of the food that arrives at their tables. The best way to do this was to create a certification seal, "Welfare Commitment Certified ", so that all operators in the pork sector visualize all these efforts and demonstrate real transparency and traceability.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-04-01 11:30:26 2025-10-08 21:28:11 Details Edit Delete

5468 INTERPORC is working with GLOBALG.A.P. in order to reinforce the IAWS certification The Spanish Inter-professional Agri-Food Organization for White Pork (INTERPORC) is working together with the international organization GLOBALG.A.P. in the definition of an integrity system for the IAWS certification (INTERPORC Animal Welfare Spain). The aim is to strengthen the rigor, trust and credibility of the seal to consumers, the operators that voluntarily get certified and the certification bodies that participate in its control.
INTERPORC is a member of GLOBALG.A.P. since 2020, which has allowed the opportunity to develop an integrity program which will continue to expand the transparency of the pork sector, as well as increasing the scope and benefits of the IAWS Animal Welfare and Biosecurity Technical Regulation.

Alberto Herranz, director of INTERPORC, highlights that the integrity control system will evaluate the performance of all certification bodies approved by IAWS. “In this way, control is reinforced to ensure that all certification bodies carry out their audits in accordance with the IAWS guidelines and procedures, verifying that they are applied to all operators in a consistent manner and with the same quality criteria and standards.”

Thus, the IAWS Integrity System will make it possible to establish a continuous process that guarantees quality and improves the transparency of all processes and, therefore, of the entire Spanish white pork sector.

In addition, thanks to the database that will be created with the companies in the program, they will have greater commercial visibility and a greater image of transparency among consumers.

For more information, please check our website: https://www.bienestaranimalcertificado.com/animal-welfare-certified/
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-05-11 13:55:54 2025-10-07 02:05:20 Details Edit Delete
5480 Garra International will trade Brazilian duck meat to the Middle East Brazilian exports of the product in USD reached a record last year, but, according to the animal trading company, there is potential to sell even more
Seen as a delicacy, duck meat has been increasing its share among Brazilian exports. Last year, for example, 3,600 tons were shipped, a record in US dollars (USD 13.1 million). The product, which has high potential and constant growth, caught the attention of Garra International, an animal protein trading company which closed an agreement in March to sell it in the Middle East.

At first, Villa Germânia Alimentos, one of the largest producers of duck meat in Latin America, will be the sole provider. The operation will have a restricted start – in order to test and understand the market –, but with plans for volume expansion in the medium term. Within three months, the first products will begin to be sold in countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

The first conversations regarding the partnership between Garra and Villa Germânia happened in Gulfood, the main food and beverage fair in the Middle East, which was held in February. The company's objective is to increase its revenue in the region by USD 50 million (or 40%) in the next 12 months.

“Countries from North Africa and the Middle East are currently the destination of 65% of our exports, including chicken, beef, lamb, mutton and, now, duck”, says Matias Hees, CCO of Garra. “After all, we are talking about a market of 400 million people, which has increased its purchasing power and, consequently, its consumption of animal protein. Naturally, this also includes more sophisticated products, such as duck meat”.

Globally, duck meat exports reached 270,000 tons in 2020, with a revenue of USD 1.1 billion, according to market research firm IndexBox. The biggest buyers were, respectively, Germany, Hong Kong and France, while the main sellers were Hungary, China and Poland.

About Garra

Garra is a trading company that combines expertise and an international network of contacts to create relevant connections between the two ends of the animal protein supply chain, buyers and suppliers. Founded 26 years ago, the company has operations in more than ten countries and clients in about 60 markets. Garra offers complete solutions, including customized financial conditions, to maximize revenue in each operation.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-05-19 09:47:31 2025-10-07 04:54:27 Details Edit Delete
5493 Spanish white pork sector: proactivity and leadership at the service of consumers As an initiative of the white pork sector itself, INTERPORC has developed the 'Welfare Commitment Certified' seal, which endorses the good practices carried out not only in animal welfare, but also in food safety, handling, animal health and biosecurity.
In this sense, the INTERPORC Animal Welfare Spain (IAWS) certification is defined and distinguished by a series of elements:

The IAWS Technical Regulation is a document endorsed by an animal welfare scientific committee of experts that provides the necessary component of science and evaluates and decides on any modification to be applied in the Technical Regulation, updated and in continuous evolution when there is new animal welfare research and consumers concern increase.

The IAWS Technical Regulation is a public document, so there is nothing to hide and shows an exercise of total transparency.

The IAWS Technical Regulation will be accredited in the future by the National Accreditation Body (ENAC) and therefore can be an internationally recognized certification.

In order to audit the IAWS Technical Regulation, auditors must be qualified and have specific training, as being from the animal health and production field (veterinarians, agronomists, etc.). In addition, the training offered on the self-control system is completely free.

As an interprofessional, INTERPORC cannot receive, and does not receive, any financial benefit from the IAWS certification. Therefore, it is a voluntary and cheaper certification available to the white pork sector.

The certification system is based on quantifiable and objective indicators.

The certification bodies are completely independent.

100% of the farms are audited an evaluated thanks to the self-control system.

Three different categories of production/handling systems are established.

Other related areas are included (biosecurity, comprehensive traceability, animal health, food safety, antibiotic control, product quality, etc.).

Finally, it must be taken into account that for consumers, the "Welfare Commitment Certified" seal aims to provide truthful and transparent information on the effort that the white pork sector has been making for years in its desire for continuous improvement and self-demand, based on European and national animal welfare legislation, the most demanding in the world.

For further information, please check our website: https://www.bienestaranimalcertificado.com/animal-welfare-certified/
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-06-02 07:54:03 2025-10-08 21:25:55 Details Edit Delete

The innovative application concepts inspire manufacturers to adapt and vary ways in which they can create more sustainable and future-proof, meat-free offerings without compromising on taste.
Texturates made from wheat offer various advantages that help manufacturers meet consumer desire for alternative meat products that authentically replicate the sensory characteristics of the meat-based original. After swelling, texturates form a viscoelastic structure that authentically mimics that of meat, with the firmness controlled by the amount of water added. Additionally, as the fibres, chunks, strips, granules and other Lory® Tex types are neutral in taste and odor, they can be individually flavored. The vegetable proteins are rich in high-quality amino acids, and in many cases the finished product contains the same amount of protein as the meat-based equivalent.

With over 40 years of experience in the food industry and a strong presence in Europe, Loryma is constantly creating new prototypical application concepts. Vegan chicken drumsticks are one such example: They consist of Lory® Tex Chunks, particularly long-fibre textured wheat proteins, which perfectly imitate the fibres of grown muscle meat thanks to their unique structure. Replication of the chicken skin is achieved with a wheat-based coating system that becomes crisp during frying. All concepts can be individually modified, with the Loryma team also offering comprehensive support with implementation and variation. Hybrid applications with both meat and textured wheat proteins are possible too.

As the production capacity for texturates manufactured by the Crespel & Deiters Group, of which Loryma is part, has been significantly increased, ready and uninterrupted availability is assured. The business has been dedicated to creating specialities out of wheat for over 160 years and is now one of the largest ingredient manufacturers in Europe. They only use GM-free wheat from European countries. In-house handling from raw material to milling and refining, product development and extrusion technology all guarantee a smooth-flowing value chain for the creation of targeted, high-quality products.

Henrik Hetzer, Managing Director of Loryma, says: "The rising demand for future-proof meat alternatives makes the market more prosperous than ever. US manufacturers therefore want to be able to quickly respond with natural products that are easy to handle, and allow for the production of authentic plant-based foods that closely replicate the meat original. Furthermore, by working together we can save the planet's resources – for ourselves and future generations."
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-06-10 10:45:56 2025-10-07 22:02:35 Details Edit Delete

5527 China: pork prices are picking up again In China, the mood on the slaughter pig market has brightened slightly, because the slaughter pig prices have risen by around 43% compared to March and are therefore again above the break even point despite higher feed costs.
Since their low point in March, slaughter pig prices in China have risen steadily and, according to local analysts, should now make profits possible again. According to the nationwide survey, the average producer price earlier this week was CNY 16.64/kg live weight (EUR 2.36); that was around 43% more than in mid-March and 25% more than exactly a year ago. Although feed costs have also risen in the People's Republic, according to the experts, the break-even point is around CNY 15/kg (EUR 2.13) and has now been exceeded.

Chief analyst for monitoring the pig market at the Beijing Ministry of Agriculture, Wang Zuli, told the press that according to the state monitoring system, the number of fattening pigs sold fell 0.2% month-on-month in May, which coincided with the recovery in consumption led to a price increase. According to Wang, the more optimistic mood can also be seen in the number of sows kept. At the end of May, these increased again for the first time in ten months, by 0.4% compared to April to 41.92 million units. This corresponds to 102.2% of the target value of at least 41 million sows.

National Development and Reform Commission spokesman Meng Wei expects pork prices to continue to rise in the second half of 2022 with insufficient supply and increasing demand. He referred to the development on the futures market Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE). The settlement rate for live pigs for the November futures there earlier this week was CNY 19.97/kg (EUR 2.84), and contracts maturing in busy January were settled at CNY 20.64/kg (EUR 2.93).
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-06-23 06:32:46 2025-10-08 06:17:23 Details Edit Delete
5528 AHDB:Lower pig meat imports and exports in April Imports of pig meat (not including offal) into the UK fell sharply in April, according to data from HMRC.
At 61,000 tonnes, volumes were still higher than the same month a year ago, but around 11,000 tonnes lower than recent monthly import levels.

The drop can perhaps be explained by a fall in competitiveness of European product, as EU pig prices rallied strongly in March. Indeed, the average price of fresh/frozen pork imports went from below £2.00/kg prior to April, to £2.26/kg in the month, even before sterling depreciated against the euro.

This brings pig meat import volumes for the year to date to 285,000 tonnes, an increase of 34% over 2021, and slightly above levels seen in 2020.

UK exports of pig meat (not including offal) were also lower in April, compared either to a year ago or recent months, with 18,400 tonnes shipped overseas. Exports to the EU were 10,700 tonnes, 46% more than a year ago at a time when trade was supressed because of both the pandemic and Brexit. Exports to China were 3,700 tonnes, 53% less than a year ago, and volumes to the rest of the world fell by 24% to 4,000 tonnes.

In the year to date, pig meat exports (not including offal) amount to 81,000 tonnes overall, up 8% on 2021, with a value of £138m, down 6% on a year ago.

Exports of pig offal, so important to the value of the sector as a whole, increased year on year by 24% in April, to 13,000 tonnes. China remains the main destination accounting for 40%, although this is down from over 50% a year ago. 17% of offal exports went to the Philippines, up from 8% a year ago, and 3% a year before that. In the year to date 47,000 tonnes have been exported with a value of £50m.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-06-23 07:28:46 2025-10-08 21:19:18 Details Edit Delete
5529 INTERPORC: asian markets perceive spanish ham as the best in the world Asia continues to be a focus of growth opportunities for ham companies, according to a study carried out by INTERPORC on the perception of cured white-layer ham in five countries. Specifically, the markets of Japan, China, South Korea, China-Taiwan and Vietnam were analysed.
The study, presented by Daniel de Miguel, head of International at the Interprofessional, on the final day of the 11th World Ham Congress held in Segovia, offers "strategies and advice for dealing with the different markets, recommendations for institutions in their work to promote international market for this product and data to prioritize the most convenient presence at fairs in that area".

The overview of Spanish cured ham in these countries would be: Japan is a mature market and very good for Spanish companies; China and South Korea are in the middle of a period of great growth; while China-Taiwan and Vietnam present many possibilities for development, but they are still in the phase of beginning to get to know our products well.

Country Analysis

Japan, which along with Singapore leads imports of cured ham in that area, is a settled market, but one that retains its attractiveness. "They perceive us as the best ham in the world and we have to take advantage of that," said INTERPORC's head of International. "They know us, they love us and they value us," he pointed out.

The consumption of cured ham in China has skyrocketed since 2017, going from 305 tons consumed for a value of 5.7 million euros to 876 and 21.3 million respectively in 2020. An upward trend that is expected to continue.

As for South Korea, in the same period it went from 89 tons and 2.3 million euros to 186 and 6 million. In this country, Spanish cured ham is perceived as the best in the world. A delicatessen in which the use of influencers for dissemination works very well.

Chinese-Taiwan consumers value their local pork as the best, so there is still a long way to go before they are well acquainted with Spanish cured white-layer ham. A job that, over time, will open another good market for Spanish companies.

Finally, Vietnam is a case similar to the previous one and it is necessary to work on the knowledge of Spanish ham, although the figures show that it has gone from a consumption of 102 tons worth 0.7 million euros in 2017 to 137 tons and 1.2 million in 2020. Very significant data that it could be another important export destination.

Conclusions

The study reveals that we are living in a good moment for the sale of Spanish cured ham in Asia. In the area there is a clear trend of increased consumption of pork products that should be taken advantage of.

Regarding the recommendations for companies, the most prominent and common are (with some particular nuances in each country) adapt the marketing strategy to local consumption patterns; take advantage of the online channel ; give the product a try so that it is known; use a specialized team in the area (if it can be local); and share synergies with other products and sectors, such as wine, to favor the introduction of ham in those countries.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-06-23 08:16:56 2025-10-08 21:28:01 Details Edit Delete

5531 China includes cultured meat in five-year plan With a huge population, an expanding middle class, strong urbanization and the associated loss of land, people in China are very concerned about food security in the future. That is why cultured meat was included in the five-year plan of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture.
Reducing meat consumption in China is a very difficult matter. Meat is intrinsically linked to status and health and has evolved from a rare treat to an everyday ingredient.

Beef, once referred to as "millionaire meat," is today consumed more than ever in China, alongside pork, which is still the most widely bought by the Chinese.

The systematic expansion of the Chinese middle class is generally regarded as the harbinger of greatly increased meat consumption. In 2021, the average Chinese consumer consumed 45.17 kg of meat on an annual basis. On the Statista website, we see that this will increase to 52.84 kg per person in 2029.

Food security is an ongoing concern for China's 1.4 billion population. In fact, the concerns about this have become an important part of the national security strategy.

Indeed, increasing food waste, land loss due to increasing urbanization, changing food preferences and other challenges have revealed gaps in the food supply chain.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-06-24 07:21:39 2025-10-09 00:07:49 Details Edit Delete
