5216 Lidl promotes new "Hybrid meat" Starting this month there will be new promotional goods at Lidl: the discounter is offering meat or sausage of German origin with a vegetable content of up to 40 percent for the first time.
Specifically, the discounter is for the first time offering minced meat and burger patties made from beef with jackfruit, Vienna sausages with carrots and chicken sausage with soy protein in the flavors classic and garlic. The new meat and sausage products of German origin will be available in more than 3,200 branches of the food retailer.

According to Lidl, the campaign with products made from a combination of animal protein and vegetable protein is aimed at "customers who want to reduce their consumption of animal products and thus their ecological footprint without completely giving up meat."

In addition, the company announced in a press release that it intends to "surprise customers with innovative alternatives to classic meat products and support them with reduced meat consumption" in the future too.

However, the concept of including hybrid meat in the range has been around for a long time. For example, since the beginning of July 2021, grocer Rewe has been selling meat under the brand name "Better Half", which is made up of 50 percent vegetables. The Netto Marken-Discount also has minced beef from the "Less Meat" brand with 44 percent vegetable preparation.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-01-12 07:37:35 2025-07-27 04:32:49 Details Edit Delete
5217 Argentine meat with blockchain technology is already available in the Netherlands
"Europe, and particularly the Netherlands, is a market that values, knows and demands information on provenance. In this sense, it is not only important the quality and the final product but the process of how it was obtained. Furthermore, it is a market that values the biodiversity of the productive environments and of course, a meat that is delicious to the palate," they remarked from Pilagá.

In this line, the European market values that the meat is exported by the same producers. Thus, about eleven tons arrived in a sea container, and they were meat from animals of the Brangus and Braford breeds.

"The exportation was carried out within the framework of the "Joint Project", since Pilagá exported Hilton cuts of superior quality to the European Union together with other producers, and it is worth noting that they belong to APEA (Association of Argentine Export Producers)," They pointed out.

From Pilagá they also indicated that they belong to this project since, because Hilton has the possibility of exporting, "we work in a united and coordinated way between producers."

"This means that within the framework of the "Joint Project", the export is carried out through the signature of Pilagá Carnes but also with the participation of the ranches of other producers that belong to the Project, and in this shipment made again, all the animals were tokenized through the Validated Meat platform," they expressed.

How does the platform work?

Validated Meat Blockchain is a software in the cloud (SaaS) that allows "the patrimonial activation of the head of cattle through its tokenization using the extended traceability of the animals on blockchain technology."

In other words: each company that owns animals, cow tokens, uploads all the data of the production process, from the genealogy to when it reaches the consumer's hands on the blockchain and then converts the information into a QR code.

Therefore, the end consumer, by scanning the QR code that appears on the meat package, can know who was the producer of the meat, what type of cut it is, the production system of the establishments, the certifications, the age, the average weight, additional information and how it finally came to you thanks to the information from the blockchain.

"At the moment the token-cow is created, a QR is automatically created, which is the physical format for accessing the animal's information on the blockchain. The idea of developing a blockchain platform capable of monitoring the entire production chain began as a result of the growing demands of consumers to know more about what is being consumed," they explained.

In summary: "the application encompasses two segments: on the one hand, all Pilagá Carnes vacuum-packed cuts will carry a QR code on their packaging so that anyone can scan them and know where they come from. Therefore, the process is transparent to the consumer. On the other hand, companies in the sector will be able to closely follow each link in the production chain, which ultimately has an impact on efficiency. According to the company, the blockchain platform provides "traceability" to generate "higher final value and better market positioning."
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-01-12 07:41:02 2025-07-27 02:54:49 Details Edit Delete

5235 STUDY: How to produce quality beef and reduce methane emissions? A specific case of advances in the generation of scientific knowledge in Argentine for its potential practical application in commercial livestock systems.
The IPCVA promotes management alternatives that allow improving the efficiency of meat production with lower GHG emissions per unit of product (“emissions intensity”: GHG/kg meat). In this framework, some results of the research project "Reduction of the intensity of methane emissions and its impact on the quality of beef from pastoral-based production systems" are presented.

This research was selected and financed by the IPCVA within the framework of its Public Research Competitions. The project was carried out by researchers belonging to the Animal Nutrition and Metabolism group of INTA Balcarce and teacher-researchers from the Faculties of Veterinary Sciences and Exact Sciences of UNICEN under the coordination of Agricultural Engineers Horacio Gonda and Patricia Ricci.

Cattle naturally generate GHG as part of the digestive process and from their excreta. These emissions are related to the loss of energy consumed by the animal that is not used by the organism. Therefore, all measures that seek to improve production to reduce emissions to the environment will not only reduce the contribution of GHG by livestock, but will also improve the efficiency of the feed conversion rate. in product (meat, milk, fiber). Therefore, managing the quality and quantity of feed consumed by animals is one of the main tools to improve production efficiency and product quality. This allows shortening the time necessary to achieve the growth and fattening objectives set.

The project evaluated the use of supplementation of beef steers at 2 moments of rearing, at the beginning of an early weaning to the pen and during winter grazing of high quality pastures. The objective of the same was to choose the best combination that demonstrates a better productive performance, characteristics of the beef and quality of meat. And in turn, lower GHG emissions per unit of product. This experiment was carried out with 40 Aberdeen Angus calves, 20 of them were weaned at 140 days of age and fed in a pen for 60 days with a diet based on corn grain, soybean expeller and whole plant corn silage. Once this period is over,

In the winter months, a combination of early feeding and winter supplementation treatments under grazing was performed. Half of the animals weaned early and the half that remained at the foot of the mother were supplemented individually for 90 days with ground corn grain at 1% LW, while the remaining half remained grazing without supplementation. After this stage, all the steers continued to graze the same pastures until they reached 300 kg of live weight, to then be fed for 110 days with a diet based on corn grain, where the animals reached an average slaughter weight of 422 kg. kg.

The experiments carried out showed that, although supplementation in the early stage did not have long-term advantages, winter supplementation in grazing did significantly reduce the intensity of methane emissions without altering the final slaughter weight or the quality of both carcass and meat. of the meat produced. For all treatments, high beef yields (57.5%), optimum beef fatness level (9.4 cm) and good tenderness values were observed, which together with the color of the meat and fat is one of the the quality parameters of the meat most sought after by the consumer. In this sense and contributing positively to the quality of the meat,

In turn, the project in question made it possible to evaluate an alternative method for measuring methane under grazing production conditions developed at UNICEN. It was observed that the expired/belched air sampling methodology for 5 continuous days produced methane emission values similar to those measured with the original method. This new methodology presents operational advantages over the original protocol, since the animals are disturbed less frequently to collect their samples. Allowing improvements in their normal behavior in grazing, and less labor required to collect measurements. The importance of the work is that it will facilitate from now on the measurement of emissions in commercial livestock establishments.

This is a specific case of advances in the generation of scientific knowledge in Argentina for its potential practical application in commercial livestock systems. As previously stated, the correct management of the quality and quantity of feed consumed by animals is one of the main tools to improve production efficiency and product quality. Reach the consumer with the product that they want the most and that is friendly to the environment. That is the look of the IPCVA. Argentine Meat, Sustainable Meat.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-01-19 08:30:45 2025-07-27 10:26:58 Details Edit Delete
5236 Week of the rabbit in Belgium This year, VLAM, the Flemish Center for Agro and Fisheries Marketing, is challenging Belgians to make surprising recipes with rabbit, from Wednesday 26th of January to Wednesday 2 of February in the "Week of the Rabbit".
Liliane Driesen , spokesperson for VLAM, explains enthusiastically: "When we think of rabbit, we often think of stews from grandmother's kitchen. Super tasty, but you can do so much more with rabbit. How about a spring roll, quesadilla or wrap with rabbit? rabbit'? Or an insanely tasty spring roll? It's all possible with homegrown park rabbit!"

If you want to be sure of your piece of rabbit, choose Belgian rabbit, a guarantee of quality. For example, all rabbits receive only vegetable food consisting of grains and alfalfa. That promotes the welfare of the rabbit! In addition, very strict quality standards are applied during slaughtering, cutting and processing. So you can rest assured that the piece of rabbit you buy is extremely hygienic and tasteful.

Liliane explains: "When you buy a rabbit, check the origin of your rabbit meat. Belgium plays a pioneering role in the field of animal welfare standards. 5238 High registration rates for IFFA 2022 IFFA 2022 remains to be as popular as ever to the industry. The number of exhibiting companies and the amount of space occupied continue the figures of the previous event in 2019. With a proven safety and hygiene concept, Messe Frankfurt offers all participants a safe framework for personal encounters.
At the beginning of 2022, exhibitors and visitors once again emphasize the need to meet for their international live event: on site and for in-person encounters. The registration status for IFFA, leading trade fair for Technology for Meat and Alternative Proteins, from May 14 to 19 in Frankfurt am Main, is very good. Messe Frankfurt is expecting more than 900 exhibiting companies from all over the world. The expected exhibition area, which will again cover Halls 8, 9, 11 and 12, is on a par with the previous event. The exhibitors will be showing innovations for the entire protein processing chain. In addition to meat products, IFFA is for the first time setting a special focus on ingredients and manufacturing processes for plant-based proteins, thus providing a professional platform for this fast-growing segment.

Peter Feldmann, Lord Mayor of the City of Frankfurt and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Messe Frankfurt, emphasizes the importance of trade fairs: "The registration figures for IFFA are a strong signal for Frankfurt as a trade show location! They show us: Messe Frankfurt was, is and will remain world class – despite the cut caused by the Corona pandemic. Without Messe Frankfurt, the Frankfurt we have known and loved for centuries would not exist. Through trade fairs, internationality and diversity have become part of our DNA. And: Messe Frankfurt is the place for the topics of the future. For example more and more people are opting for a meat-free or low-meat diet. It's good that IFFA is embracing this trend.”

Strong industry - positive expectations for IFFA

Klaus Schröter, Managing Director of Schröter Technologie GmbH & Co. KG and Chairman of the Meat Processing Machinery Division of VDMA, confirms: "There is a huge need in the industry of getting together in person. On behalf of the exhibitors, I would like to emphasize that we need IFFA to be a strong international platform this year and we are looking forward to presenting our innovations to the trade audience. With the new topic of alternative proteins, the world's leading trade fair is also experiencing an important realignment and a push towards the future." For the IFFA year 2022, the food machinery sector expects even higher sales growth than in 2021, partly because existing orders from 2021 will be converted into sales this year. On the other hand, the continuing good demand, the strong trend towards automation and digitalization, as well as product innovations give every reason to have positive expectations for the world's leading trade show.”

Well prepared - safe participation

In these volatile pandemic times, good preparation for trade show participation is more important than ever. "IFFA offers a safe environment for contacts, business and inspiration," says Wolfgang Marzin, CEO of Messe Frankfurt. "Our protection and hygiene concept, which has been coordinated with the authorities, has already been used successfully at many in-person events. And as is the case everywhere, those who are vaccinated and boosted have the greatest possible freedom of action."

A modern exhibition center provides optimal facilities for a safe face-to-face B2B meeting. Access is fully controlled, which means that all participants are personally registered and their vaccination or convalescent status or even tests are checked. The exhibition halls are supplied with 100 percent fresh air by modern ventilation systems. Due to the large room volumes and high air exchange rates of up to five times per hour, aerosols are constantly diluted and removed. 5246 Strong Brazilian pork exports in 2021 The latest data shows a 13% rise in Brazilian pig meat exports (including offal) during 2021, totalling 1.27 million tonnes, according to AHDB.
Although China/Hong Kong constituted just over half of the total export market, a range of destinations contributed to the overall growth. Shipments to the Philippines were four-times higher over the 12 months, reaching 33,300 tonnes. Meanwhile, trade with Venezuela trebled compared to 2020, totalling 40,900 tonnes.

Trade with China/Hong Kong totalled 687,100 tonnes, only slightly higher than the year before. Shipments were constrained by falling Chinese import demand as their domestic production began to recover last year. In fact, by the fourth quarter, this trade was nearly 30% below year earlier levels. This meant that the uplift in 2021 trade was biased towards the first half of the year. Overall exports in the final quarter were only 6% higher than the year before, at 305,000 tonnes.

The overall positive performance was influenced by a number of factors. Depreciation of the Brazilian real has helped the competitiveness of Brazilian product on international markets. Increasing production and slow recovery in domestic demand has also led to increased availability of product for export.

In 2022, further export growth has been forecast for Brazilian pig meat, with some expectations of Chinese import demand picking up again later in the year although there is much uncertainty surrounding this. The latest USDA forecast (from October) anticipates a 7% growth in Brazilian pork exports this year, supported by a 3% increase in production.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-01-25 07:49:11 2025-07-27 05:53:08 Details Edit Delete
5249 Danish Crown's new electric refrigerated trailers for CO2 reduction Danish Crown and DFDS, as the first in Denmark, are using refrigerated trailers that run exclusively on electricity. This is done to reduce CO2 emissions on meat transport. The collaboration must also provide experience with a technology that can eventually be developed to replace the diesel-powered refrigerated trailers.
When products such as pork roast, ham and bacon in future roll out from Danish Crown to consumers all over the world, some of these will be transported in refrigerated trailers powered by electricity rather than diesel. As part of Danish Crown's collaboration with DFDS, the food group is now using three electric refrigerated trailers.

"It is a first step on the road to making the transport of our products greener. The technology is still very new, and we want to help test and develop it. With three trailers, both we and DFDS will gain valuable experience, so that we can hopefully over a number of years switch all transport to electric refrigerated trailers", says Lars Feldskou, Group Purchasing Director at Danish Crown.

Instead of a diesel tank, the 13.6 meter long refrigerated trailer has a large battery, so the refrigerated trailer does not emit CO2 on its own. The battery can operate the refrigerated trailer for up to 3.5 hours. At the same time, the middle of the three axles on the trailer is equipped with a generator, which charges the battery as soon as the speed is over 20 kilometers per hour.

The truck that pulls the refrigerated trailer uses a little more fuel than if the refrigerated trailer has its own diesel generator, but the total consumption is significantly reduced. Behind the concept is several years of development and in engineering language, it is about utilizing the kinetic energy that arises while driving. How much fuel is saved more precisely under Danish conditions, and how much CO2 emissions are thus reduced, there are no precise data yet. This is something that Danish Crown and DFDS have set out to uncover.

"At DFDS, we work with the green transition based on the fact that it is first and foremost about becoming wiser about exactly what creates the best results. By constantly testing new methods and technologies in close and agile partnerships, we believe we are moving forward faster. In collaboration with Danish Crown, we use a well-known technology in a completely new way and see it as an investment in producing knowledge, including how we create the optimal processes and solutions that can benefit many more in the long run. track", says Martin Gade Gregersen, who is responsible for refrigerated transport in DFDS.

The refrigerated trailer is produced by German Krone and the refrigeration machine by French Carrier Transicold and has a battery that can be charged in just two hours. Although both the battery and the generator have a significant weight, the new trailers are lighter than the current trailers when they are fully refueled with diesel oil.

At the same time, the new trailers have the great advantage that they make much less noise than diesel-powered refrigerated trailers (approx. 60 dB (A), which corresponds to the level of, for example, a washing machine. traffic in urban areas is relieved during the day.

"We believe that there are great prospects in the electric refrigerated trailers, and therefore we invest in the project together with DFDS. Transport actually accounts for the second largest load in our supply chain, so therefore electric refrigerated trailers may play an important role in the future", says Lars Feldskou.
    Technology adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-01-26 07:08:12 2025-07-26 23:28:16 Details Edit Delete
5250
The total value of meat and livestock exports increased by 4% to €3.5 billion in 2021, which was a strong performance given the challenges of the year. Below the top-line growth, individual sectors experienced differing market trends, with strong demand and higher prices in beef and sheep meat, and a weaker market for poultry and pig meat. Meat and livestock exports were up 7% when compared to 2019.

Beef exports increased in value by 9% and were worth €2.1 billion during the year. This growth was underpinned by sustained strong demand and higher prices in the UK and EU markets. After a slow start in the first quarter, Irish exporters were able to work their way through the new trading realities with the UK, and volumes increased. The price environment was positive, due to a tightness of supply in the UK, and also in key EU markets.

The easing of Covid-19 related restrictions, particularly on the food service sector in the second half of the year helped generate strong demand. Ireland’s export values grew, despite an 11% year-on-year reduction in the volume of export. The strongest growth was to EU destinations which had a reduction in domestic beef availability.

The value of pig meat exports decreased by 3% to €542 million, as lower pricing in international markets affected the industry. Export volumes increased by 3% to 248,000 tonnes in 2021, and the pattern of trade was influenced by market developments in Asia and the UK during the year.

Shipments of Irish pig meat to Asia accounted for 67% of the total export value at €360 million, which is a 42% increase on 2020 levels. China is the main market for Irish pig meat, but due to a slowdown in demand there, most of last year’s growth was driven by other Asian markets such as Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines.

Tighter global and EU supplies of sheep meat, combined with stronger demand helped generate an extremely positive market for Irish sheep meat in 2021. The value of sheep meat exports increased strongly for the second consecutive year, rising by 15% to €420 million.

This strong growth in value came despite a 9% drop in export volumes. Irish exporters benefited from reduced sheep meat exports from the UK into the EU and a decline in EU production. The reduced availability of imported sheep meat in the EU market had a positive impact on the demand and opportunities for Irish sheep meat. Lower export capacity in New Zealand, due to reduced production levels and a redirection of its product away from the EU meant there was less New Zealand lamb available in our key export markets.

Primary poultry exports fell by 15% to €128 million during 2021. This decline was due primarily to a fall in trade with the UK, which is Ireland’s major market for poultry. The value of poultry trade to the UK declined by 16% to €74 million last year, reflecting the sector’s high exposure to the foodservice market in the UK, which was significantly disrupted during the year.

European poultry exporters were negatively affected by market access restrictions last year, and progress around re-establishing these trading partnerships will be critical towards rebuilding export performance.

These developments were also reflected in overall EU poultry exports, which fell by 5% to 2.2 million tonnes in 2021. The principal markets that reduced import demand from EU suppliers included the Philippines, South Africa, Hong Kong, and the UK.

The value of Irish livestock exports increased by 6% to €214 million last year. Increased returns from live cattle exports helped to offset lower export values for both pigs and sheep.

The value of primary seafood exports returned to growth last year, increasing by 6% to €485 million, albeit with varying trends across the sector.

Pelagic exporters experienced a difficult 2021, with a cut to the mackerel quota as a result of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. The value of pelagic exports for the year was down 1% to €169 million, helped by the strength of Asian markets. 5251 INTERPORC: Animal welfare is the top priority for the Spanish producers "All people in contact with animals have adequate and sufficient training, and are also required to periodically take courses to adapt their knowledge to the technical advances of the activity, which ensures the maximum care and well-being of the animals".
This is how the director of INTERPORC explains it, who recalls that "the Spanish pig sector complies with the strictest regulations in the world in this matter for the care of animals both on the farm and in transport or slaughter". And furthermore, he adds, "continuous training in animal welfare for operators, workers and authorities" is an essential part of the quality-oriented European production strategy.

The regulations, he details, "are very specific in many aspects, such as the minimum space per animal or the maximum noise level, so that" we must unequivocally comply with the requirements and the competent authority verify it. Likewise, it is a veterinarian who is in charge of aspects related to animal welfare, health, hygiene and biosecurity.

"Together with veterinarians, agronomists and pig professionals, they prioritize the care and protection of animals, the only way to ensure the obtaining of healthy, safe and top-quality products". In this sense, INTERPORC considers that a communication focused on the concerns of society is necessary, "taking into account the studies and scientific advances in the matter and the different points of view of producers, workers and consumers".

In his opinion "there must be coherent consumer information programs that help them decide with as many elements of judgment as possible".

Seal 'Certified Welfare Commitment'

On the other hand, explains Herranz, the pig farms that also have the INTERPORC 'Certified Welfare Commitment' seal, are anticipating compliance with the regulations that came into force on January 1, 2022, the new Comprehensive Management System of pig farms (SIGE).

This contemplates, among others, an Animal Welfare Plan in which the structural and environmental conditions of the farm are described, the risk factors for the welfare of the animals are evaluated, including the risk of natural disasters, and an Action Plan with the measures to be adopted on the identified risks.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-01-26 07:19:51 2025-07-27 06:36:43 Details Edit Delete
5261 How optimized deboning and trimming is transforming meat processing Hanging deboning and intelligent trimming are maximizing time and value for meat processors.
Meat processors across the globe are looking to optimize the flow of their processes, increase automation, and implement product tracking and traceability. The scarcity of labor is also a factor that is driving the demand for automation.

Marel boasts a comprehensive portfolio of advanced meat processing equipment and solutions capable of meeting the entire spectrum of requirements for deboning and trimming. Intelligent equipment like the DeboFlex and StreamLine supported by Innova are in high demand because of their traceability capabilities, automation and optimization of processes. They are ergonomically designed to minimize wear and tear and reduce work-related strain injuries.

Since its launch, the pork industry has embraced the groundbreaking method of hanging deboning offered by Marel’s DeboFlex, and processors around the world have thus optimized logistics and carcass utilization.

DeboFlex is an inline, modular and flexible system for hanging deboning of the pork carcass. The system ensures no product-to-product contact and far less cross-contaminating hand-to-product contact. Products move intelligently through the system in a controlled way, with primals and trim falling into bins or onto a takeaway conveyor system. With most operations automated, the line moves quickly and efficiently, resulting in a more consistent end product.

Hanging deboning brings significant benefits including:

Optimized production

Increased yield

Higher "knife in meat" time

Lowered labor costs

Ergonomics and no heavy lifting

Focus on specific process task

Better logistics of primal products

Improved product quality and shelf life

The StreamLine deboning and trimming system provides processors with complete control and traceability of each part of the animal from breakup to packing. With Innova at the heart of the system, processors can configure the cutting and trimming according to the customer-specified cutting patterns and streamline a process that often lacks organization.

The StreamLine distributes meat primals to workstations based on operator availability, and real-time instructions are displayed on a screen with the operation type and task to be performed. The meat is deboned, trimmed, and further processed at the workstation according to unique product specifications and customer orders.

The StreamLine can send pieces from one operator to the next to create multiple process steps for the same primal, keeping track of yield at each stage. All cuts are fully traceable down to the specific animal lot and line operator.

The benefits of the StreamLine include:

Individual product traceability

Monitoring of yield, throughput, and defects

Ergonomic and stress-free work environment

Monitoring of individual line operator performance

Through our innovative technologies in meat deboning and trimming, processors have the ability and agility to quickly respond to customer specifications, maximizing the use of their raw material and delivering a safe and consistent product.

    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-01-31 06:21:08 2025-07-27 01:34:07 Details Edit Delete

5263 INTERPORC: the pig sector reduces its GHG emissions by 5,4 % In 2020, the Spanish pig sector has reduced its Greenhouse Gas emissions by 5,4% for each kilo of meat produced compared to 2019, according to data prepared by the Interprofesional del Porcino de Capa Blanca (INTERPORC) based on the latest reports offered by the Ministries of Agriculture and Ecological Transition.
With these figures that reflect the reality of the sector, the tendency to reduce emissions in recent years caused by the pig activity is reconfirmed, as highlighted by INTERPORC on the occasion of the celebration of the World Day for the Reduction of CO 2 emissions , also called World Day of Action against Climate Change.

Thus, in 2020 the emissions for each ton of meat produced amounted to 1.75 compared to 1.85 in 2019, and if we go back to 2005, the reduction in GHG emissions for each kilo of meat produced is even more significant, since it has been reduced by 39.6% in the last 15 years. In that year, Spanish pig farms emitted 2.90 tons of CO2 for every tonne of meat produced, while in 2020, 1.75 tons of CO2 were emitted per tonne of meat.

Likewise, although production has increased in recent years, total sectorial emissions have fallen notably. In total, they reached 8,765 tons in 2020, which indicates a decrease of more than 4.7% with respect to the GHG emissions of the sector in 2005.

The data shows not only that the sector has made an extraordinary effort to reduce its environmental impact, but also that it is in a position to continue reducing it in the coming years until it reaches a position of guaranteed climate neutrality in the year 2050.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-01-31 06:57:12 2025-07-26 13:04:00 Details Edit Delete
5281 Garra International wants to expand its presence in the Middle East One of the largest F&B fairs in the world will take place this February, in Dubai; two thirds of the animal protein products that Garra exports from Brazil have Arab countries as destination
Gulfood, the main food and beverage trade show in the Middle East – and one of the largest in the world – will take place between February 13 and 17, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Among the more than 400 organizations expected for the event, one of them, the trading company Garra International, stands out for the deep commercial exchange that promotes between Brazil and the countries of this region.

This relationship has become increasingly important for Brazilian exports of animal protein. In 2021, for instance, out of the 4.6 million tons of chicken meat shipped, almost a third (1.33 million) were destined for countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen, according to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).

This same upward trend can be seen with Garra, which has consistently increased its exports to Asia and Africa. In 2010, 57% of its products that left Brazil went to the Middle East; today this rate is at 65%. To disembark, all items have the Halal certification - which designates foods, products, and services that can be consumed by Muslims.

"The halal protein market has been growing year after year, not only because of the demand from Arab countries but also due to the Muslim communities spread all over the world," says Frederico Kaefer, CEO of Garra. "This is one of the reasons that makes us have a qualified presence at the Gulfood. However, there are others: a fair of such size and with such diversification ensures great visibility to Garra and has the potential to generate big businesses."

During Gulfood, the company will be at stand 310, located in Hall 3 of the Meat & Poultry area.

Growth strategy

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, between 2021 and 2030 the chicken meat export to the Middle East should increase by 23.5%, reaching around 4 million tons. Beef exports will grow at a slower pace, from 1.1 million tons per year to 1.3 million tons.

This growth is explained mainly by the expansion of the purchasing power in developing countries, as the population gradually increases its daily consumption of high-quality food.

Considering this trend, Garra, which already negotiates 120 thousand tons of animal protein per year – sold to around 500 clients in more than 60 markets – has a plan that is both ambitious and feasible: to increase its turnover by five times, from US$ 200 million to US$ 1 billion in ten years. And the Middle East, as well as Asia and North Africa, play a key role in this goal.

"There is an enormous potential for supply growth, as we are dealing with a diversified market with extremely high demand. With this in mind, we maintain operations in ten countries, including Brazil, the United States, Egypt, the UAE, and Australia, and offer customized financial solutions so that everyone can buy or sell in the world's major centers," says Frederico. "Customers, after all, are looking not only for a quality product but also trusted relationships and relevant connections."

About Garra

Garra is a trading company that combines expertise and an international network of contacts to create relevant connections between the two ends of the animal protein supply chain, buyers and suppliers. 5299 "Welfare Commitment Certified": a seal aligned with the recommendations of the EU Animal WelfarePlatform In October 2020, a sub-group on animal welfare labelling was established within the EU Platform on Animal Welfare with the objective to assist the Commission by collecting experiences and opinions regarding information to consumers on animal welfare.
Some of the main conclusions stablished by the subgroup of experts about an EU animal welfare label during the last two yearsare the following:

The subgroup recommends the development and evolution of a regulatory framework for a voluntary label.

The scope of an EU labelling system shouldbe more transparent by covering the whole life of an animal (including transport andslaughter).

The recommendation of a multi-tier label.

A multi-tier label will adopt higher animal welfare practices for as many animals as possible.

Any regulatory framework of an EU animal welfare label is developed with the active participation of all stakeholders: the actors of the food supply chain, representatives of the civil society, scientists and governmental organizations.

The future EU labelling system must be based on objective metrics and not subjective or emotional ones. These objectives must be based on scientific and agronomic evidence.

An EU animal welfare label would progressively improve the animal welfare standards of the operators.

Transparency in the market and better protection to EU producers who apply high standards could be provided.

A specific EU animal welfare logo or visual entitymay be useful for both consumers and producers.

The "Welfare Commitment Certified Seal", promoted by the Spanish Inter-professional Agri-Food Organization for White Pork (INTERPORC), is fully aligned with these main conclusions of the animal welfare labeling sub-group of the EU Animal Welfare Platform. 5357 More profit potential with meat preparation Poultry processors tend to harvest every gram of meat from their raw material to achieve optimal carcass balance. If they don't want to rely on third parties, meat preparation can be a profitable business for them with great potential. Properly prepared, the meat mass can result in an infinite number of tasty end products such as nuggets, meatballs and burgers.
By offering the ideal mix of equipment and software, Marel has configured several specialized poultry meat preparation lines. They are the perfect link between the end of the secondary process and the beginning of processes for the manufacture of convenience food items.

Marel's specialized full-line nugget preparation system provides ideal conditions for the production of uniform and tasty nuggets of the highest quality. High-end mixing and grinding machines work together to prepare the meat in the best possible way. An infeed conveyor or a ColumnLoader supplies the raw meat material. After the pre-grinding process in a CombiGrind machine, ground meat is conveyed with a GirafConveyor to the vacuum Mixer, which gently mixes the product. If needed, nitrogen or CO2 can be added to obtain the correct temperature for the forming process. Once mixed, a Marel RevoPortioner forms the meat into uniform nuggets. This process particularly benefits from meat, suitably prepared in the meat preparation line. That is because it is essential that the meat has the proper structure and a consistent temperature after the forming process to guarantee uniform nuggets.

To prepare meat mass for poultry burgers, Marel's dedicated line produces batches of meat with the specific fat content demanded by the recipe. A ColumnLoader conveys fresh meat or a frozen block of meat to the CombiGrind machine. A FATscan analyzer makes it simple to measure, adjust and deliver the desired fat percentage for each batch. Connected to the main recipe control system, FATscan makes sure that the system is fed with a proper mix of incoming broiler carcass components. In this way, food producers can label their products consistently with the correct fat percentage.
Via a GirafConveyor, the meat mass is transported to the Mixer. The unique square intermeshing mixer ensures minimal and efficient mixing times. CO2 or nitrogen can be added for temperature purposes. With the preparation process done, it is possible to produce finished frozen burgers packed, and ready for dispatch.

When preparing poultry for meatball production, Marel's fully automated Meat Preparation Line is able to mix a meat mass uniformly to a required recipe, ideal for the best possible shaped meatballs. It is vital that each batch of meat has the right temperature and precisely the right fat content. Integrated online fat analysis simplifies measuring and ensures the best possible shape for optimal cooking with maximum yield. The square intermeshing mixers ensure uniformity of the finished product. This technique makes for faster, easier absorption of seasoning and other additives. The reduced mixing time minimizes the risk of smearing. CO2 can be added.

Marel's poultry meatball production lines give optimum control of the finished product and full traceability through each individual part of the process.

A central recipe management system is available for all preparation lines. This ensures consistent, uniform meat mass quality to meet precise specifications.

Marel's online recipe monitoring software ensures that the correct raw material is added to the batch at the right time to obtain a uniform product with a perfect texture. The system can create, edit and store recipes centrally. If required, a recipe can be adjusted from batch to batch via the control panel. Even routings can be specified for individual batches, leading possibly to small adjustments to the line configuration to align end products to the market.

Recipe management makes the system reliable and no longer dependent on human input. It provides integrated traceability as well as a batch reporting system. The system gives a complete overview of individual machine status as well as operation of the full line. This includes fault and alarm handling.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-03-17 09:30:13 2025-07-27 07:22:00 Details Edit Delete
5358 MULTIVAC presents a new full wrap labeller for random weight products With its new L 312 model, MULTIVAC is launching onto the market a conveyor belt labeller, which now enables attractive full wrap labelling to be used for random weight products as well. The flexible and highly efficient solution will be shown to the public for the first time at Anuga FoodTec 2022 (Hall 8.1, Stand C010) and IFFA 2022 (Hall 11.1, Stand B11).
Retail packs of high-quality meat and fish products in particular are often sold based on their weight. The products must first be weighed, the price calculated, and the information then printed onto the label. The new L 312 performs this task precisely and reliably. This full wrap labeller is augmented with an optional weigh price marking facility.

This has been achieved by equipping the high-performance and robust full wrap model with a weighing system, which can be calibrated and is already approved by most European countries - with plans for approval in other regions of the world. The weighing system determines the weight of the pack very precisely and transfers the calculated product price to the labeller. An integrated thermal transfer printer is then used to print all the relevant information onto the label, such as for example weight, price, best-before date and even barcode, and the print layout can be designed to the customer's particular requirements. The label is then dispensed onto the top of the pack, before being wrapped accurately around the pack like a banderole.

This robust model, which is constructed in a hygiene design, makes the automatic C and D labelling of packs possible at speeds of up to 120 per minute. If required, further label dispensers can be incorporated, so that additional top or bottom labels, as well as the full wrap label, can be applied to the pack.

The L 312 can be integrated into lines or used as a stand-alone solution with manual product infeed. It can also be integrated into MULTIVAC Line Control, which provides the maximum operating convenience. Thanks to the automated labelling process, producers and packers also benefit from a high level of precision, process reliability, and above all throughput. Since the setting parameters for the labeller, printer and weighing system are stored in the particular recipe, this also makes batch changes very fast, enabling downtime to be reduced to a minimum.

The benefits of full wrap labelling are now also available for random weight packs: attractive product presentation, high level of flexibility in the choice of label shape, material and adhesive, as well as maximum labelling accuracy, a large area for information, and an automatic labelling process. To provide additional security, the L 312 can also be equipped with optional label and print inspection.

And last but not least, this solution meets the increasing demands of the market in terms of not only efficiency and performance but also sustainability. Full wrap labelling scores heavily, when compared with cardboard sleeves, thanks to its high level of material efficiency: depending on the label material used, savings of up to 70 percent can be achieved on material costs.
    Industry adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-03-17 09:32:58 2025-07-27 12:11:56 Details Edit Delete
