995 USA gain access to India's poultry market Still, American poultry products are subject to import tariffs that range from 30% to 100%.
The governments of India and the U.S. recently finalized the export certificate for India, an important step for both sides considering the fact that India has been closed to poultry imports.

The approval of the export certificate represents the culmination of a long-term effort to gain access to the Indian market. India is a huge market, with 1.3 billion consumers and a middle-class population of 267 million in 2016, the U.S. Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) said in a press release.

Globex International, one of the USAPEEC members, has already prepared its air freight shipment with frozen U.S. poultry and breeding stock to be sent to India in the following weeks, as the company gained the first import permit. Other companies were in various stages of progress as well, waiting for the clearance to export on this market.

"We’re excited to learn that the Indian market is finally open to U.S. poultry products and pleased that we happened to be in India when word came down. As I’ve said before, I never expected this to happen during my career, so this is great news for our industry", declared Jim Sumner, president of USAPEEC.

Tariffs on U.S. imports will be 30% on whole chicken, 30% on turkey and 100% on all other chicken, according to a National Chicken Council note.
    Market 2018-03-25 12:00:44 2025-08-01 18:13:18 Details Edit Delete
4493 Spain opens the Filipino beef market More than 20 companies are allowed to ship their products to the Asian country.
The governments of the Philippines and Spain have reached an agreement that allows more than 20 Spanish beef producers to export the meat to the Filipino market. Negotiations have been in place for more than two years and Provacuno has already prepared the field for Spanish beef. "This authorization culminates the efforts of the authorities and the beef sector in Spain to increase the list of countries where we can export our products," declared Javier Lopez, director of Provacuno. In the last couple of years, Spain has gained access to markets such as Vietnam and Japan and is currently working to introduce Spanish beef in China and South Korea, a target that is going to accelerate beef exports to Asia.
The total demand for beef in the Filipino market is about 400,000 tonnes per year, while the production stands at about 200,000 tonnes, so imports are very important. Provacuno has been traveling to the Philippines for more than two years and organizing reverse missions and online meetings to establish relationships with distributors, importers, HORECA channel companies, and the media from the Asian country. "There are important efforts made by the companies that have opted for this market and that as of today will be able to commercialize Spanish beef in the Philippines", commented Jose Ramon Godoy, director of International Sales at Provacuno.
    Market 2021-02-22 06:34:54 2025-08-01 20:28:26 Details Edit Delete

7082 JBS Green Offices regularize 8,000 farms and expand service to rural producers The goal is to increase support for farms by 50% in 2024, prioritizing support for small producers. In a new phase, the program aims to contribute to increased productivity.
The Green Offices program at JBS, one of the largest food companies in the world, reached the milestone of 8 thousand socio-environmental regularizations of farms in Brazil. In 2023 alone, the initiative recorded a total of 4,000 farm regularizations and reached the milestone of 2,300 hectares targeted for forest restoration. For this year, the company's goal is to reach 12 thousand regularizations and prioritize service to small producers.

Among the 8 thousand regularizations carried out, 47% are for small properties. Aiming mainly to support small producers in addition to solving environmental liabilities, at the end of last year JBS launched Green Offices 2.0.

"Technology increases productivity, income and makes production more sustainable", says Liège Correia, Director of Sustainability at JBS Brasil. "With Green Offices 2.0, we will offer tools so that producers have access to regenerative production practices and techniques and integrated agroforestry systems", she adds.

According to the executive, the Company adopted a strategy to combat the problem of deforestation that goes beyond blocking producers who do not comply with the company's purchasing policy. "We understand that this sectoral issue related to deforestation will only have a solution if we act together with ranchers and small producers, offering effective solutions and promoting technical assistance for those who wish to regularize. And the results we are achieving in the Green Offices prove that this is a successful strategy", she states.

The executive explains that, in around three years of the Green Offices' existence, more than 22 thousand services have already been provided to rural producers, of which 9 thousand took place in 2023 alone, representing a growth of 57% when compared to the previous year.

Currently, JBS monitors more than 70,000 potential cattle supply farms daily. When a property is identified as having any type of non-compliance with the socio-environmental criteria of the JBS Responsible Purchasing Policy, the company's purchasing system is immediately blocked. At this moment, the work of the Green Offices offers support to understand and support those producers who want to follow the path of sustainability towards the regularization of their areas.

The program began with offices in the states of Pará, Rondônia, Goiás, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. As the initiative matured and increased demand from producers, the program was expanded, reaching Acre and Tocantins.
    Technology adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2024-02-08 00:15:09 2025-08-01 19:44:42 Details Edit Delete

These include:

Compliance with all EU animal welfare laws and regulations

Not exceeding a stocking density of more than 30kg per m2 – which is 30% more room than ‘standard’ protocols, giving chickens more room to roam

Use higher welfare breeds of chickens that are grown more slowly

Provide an enriched environment for the birds in barns

Birds must be slaughtered using humane methods

All companies must be third-party audited at regular intervals

Ronald Kers, CEO, said: "This is great news and a testament to all the hard work our farmers, processing operations and commercial teams are putting in. 701 China's pork market is set to grow for at least a decade Import volumes are expected to grow constantly over the next 10-15 years.
The growing population of China, constant growth of middle income and limited domestic resources for growing pigs are some of the factors that indicate an expansion of pork market based on imports, predicts Lorne Tannas, General Manager China for Genesus.
According to a report recently released by the company, we are going to see 10 to 15 years of very good pork price in China. At this point, China has limited resources to raise pigs and all of the new policies that Beijing is promoting in this sector are meant to favour only the big producers.
"Instead we will continue to see China buy value-added pork where the value is done in countries with the needed resources to do this. China just doesn't have these things to raise the pork internally. Several key areas in China have been chosen for expansion. This is good for large companies, but more difficult for small to mid-size companies for hog expansion. It should be noted these influences will only prolong the good prices. Growth will be slow but positive, in production performance, meat quality and safety.", considers Tannas.

(Photo source: Flickr/K-State Research and Extension)

    Market 2018-01-31 07:00:38 2025-08-01 06:59:31 Details Edit Delete
5628 EU pig meat production up 1,3 % in May Pig meat production in the EU totalled 1.9 million tonnes in May, up 1.3% compared to a year earlier, according to AHDB. Throughput was also up year-on-year, with just over 20 million pigs sent through abattoirs. This is a reversal in the trends recorded since the beginning of the year, and the first year-on-year increase in monthly pig meat production since November 2021.
The growth came mainly from France, Spain, and Denmark where pig meat production was up by 8.5%, 2.8% and 7.9% respectively. Italy and the Netherlands also saw a reversal of trend, with production up on the year after recording drops in the first four months of the year. Germany remained below previous year levels, but by a smaller deficit than earlier in the year.

Year-to-date pig meat production in the EU reached 9.5 million tonnes by May, 3.8% below the same period last year. This is in line with the latest EU short term outlook, which predicts a 4% drop in production for the calendar year. High input costs remain an issue, and while prices are at relatively high levels, they have levelled off in recent weeks. Farm margins are therefore expected to remain under pressure, while environmental concerns, reduced exports to China and ASF will also weigh on markets.
    Retail adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-08-09 03:59:32 2025-08-01 02:38:10 Details Edit Delete

2122 High costs in halal certification world could impede the expansion of the market This could affect the growth prognosis for the halal food sector which is supposed to reach $1,863 billion in 5 years.
The growth of the global halal food market could suffer from the diverse certification systems that exist today and the high costs to meet all the requirements. In 2013, according to the current projection, the global halal food market is supposed to reach a value of $1,863 billion, up by 6.1% from the value of $1,303 billion reported last year.
Nevertheless, the chaos for producers persist as long they have to pay different taxes for certification to more than 300 officially-recognised halal certifiers globally. Halal falls below global best practices due to a lack of commonly-accepted standards among these numerous certifiers, which often result in duplicate certification costs and added complexity, informs Salaam Gateway magazine. The unification of halal certification system is a must but until now only two countries have made significant steps ahead by creating the International Halal Authority Board (IHAB) - Malaysia and Turkey's new Halal Accreditation Authority (HAK). That could be a real problem in the near future for producers exposed on top ten markets with largest values on Muslim food expenditure: Indonesia ($170 billion), Turkey ($127 billion), Pakistan ($118 billion), Egypt ($86 billion), Bangladesh ($76 billion), Iran ($63 billion), Saudi Arabia ($61 billion), Nigeria ($47 billion), Russia ($41 billion) and India ($38 billion). 4885 Poultry shortage in Thailand Due to COVID-19 outbreaks in farms and processing units, exports to China have been impacted bu the effect is also felt in the domestic market.
The high rate of COVID-19 infections in Thailand is taking a toll on the poultry industry, one of the most lucrative sectors in the country. At the end of July, 3,000 workers in a huge plant were found infected with the virus and the unit was quarantined. Also, other processing plants in the country have reduced their operations since mid-June to keep the workforce safe.
These created a shortage of poultry in the Thai market that spiked the prices by at least $500/ton, according to a source quoted by the Global Times newspaper. However, China, one of the largest export markets for Thai chicken meat, is increasing controls and restrictions applied for suppliers which are confronted with COVID-19 outbreaks.
"Due to the recent COVID-19 clusters in China the regulation department has tightened supervision and inspection on import meat and increased the level of disinfection processes. Many restaurants are unwilling to use imported chicken meat. We still have some inventory for the quarterly orders, however, there is no new source of supply," mentioned a Chinese trader.
According to the latest statistics of the Broiler Processing Exporters Association, China's imports of Thai chicken soared by 82% last year. Public data show that China's import volume has increased significantly every year since China resumed imports of frozen chicken meat from Thailand again in March 2018.

In 2019, China imported 65,420 tonnes of chicken products from Thailand, with a value of more than 5.6 billion THB ($170 million), an increase of 252% year-on-year from 2018. At present, China has become the second-largest export market of Thai frozen chicken products after Japan.
