The company said that during the recycling process, the thin Plantic plant starch layer uniquely washes away, allowing the PET tray to be recycled.</p> <p>Coles Director of Fresh, Alex Freudmann, said Coles was pleased to partner with Plantic Technologies, which is a leading innovator in renewable plant-based barrier materials.</p> <p>“This is an important new step in our goal to become more sustainable. For four years, our Coles Brand beef, lamb and pork mince has been packaged in recyclable trays sourced from Plantic. 1668 | UK's government warns poultry farmers over Newcastle Disease threat | Authorities from the UK have urged poultry farmers to prepare themselves by taking all the necessary measures needed to prevent an outbreak of Newcastle disease. | <p>The UK Government has sent out a message to all poultry farmers following outbreaks of the disease in smallholder flocks and commercial poultry sites in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.</p> <p>Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) experts have said that the risk of the disease in UK flocks has risen from ‘low’ to ‘medium’.</p> <p>Newcastle Disease is caused by a virulent strain of paramyxovirus and can be spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected birds. They have a dominant gene that causes hyperpigmentation (Fibromelanosis), making the chicken entirely black; including feathers, beak, meat, and internal organs. The breed originated from the island of Java, Indonesia and first imported to Europe in 1998 by Dutch breeder Jan Steverink. Kelly Products wants to offer this same level of transparency to its other partners.</p> <p>“We plan to start the block chain with our own animals and then expand to other members of the meat processing and supply chain across the state of Georgia and the southeast. 1683 | Danish pork is getting cheaper | Denmark's fresh and frozen pork exports have increased year-over-year in volume but fell in value in the first four months of 2018. | <p>The country's fresh and frozen pork exports have reported an increase of 8%, in terms of volume, reaching 375,500 tonnes in the first four months of 2018. Still, in terms of value, exports fell by 3% to DKK5.6 billion (€747 million), according to the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).</p> <p>AHDB analyst, Bethan Wilkins, explained that the increase in volume is based on an increase in the country's pork production of 6% or 28,000 tonnes in the mentioned period.</p> <p>Danish pork exports increased to other EU member states in the first four months of this year and accounted for 73% of Denmark's total pork export volume in this period.</p> <p>Exports to the UK declined by 13% in the mentioned period, while Poland increased its Danish pork imports by 23% year-on-year, making it the second largest market for Danish pork.</p> <p>"Germany remained the largest single market for Danish pork, with its share increasing to 32% as volumes to other countries fell back," Wilkins explained.</p> <p>Shipments to Italy also rose by 8,600 tonnes and there was noticeable growth to a number of smaller EU countries, particularly Romania and Greece.</p> <p>On the other hand, shipments to non-EU markets increased slightly by 2%. The main markets that increased their purchases of Danish pork were the US and South Korea, with shipments up by 3,000 tonnes each.</p> <p>There was also an increase in shipments to Denmark’s largest non-EU export destination for pork, Japan.
