Brazilian pig farming continues to expand and increase domestic consumption
In recognition of the strategic role of producers in this process, the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), together with the entire production chain, celebrates Pig Farmer's Day on 24 July — a date that honors the professionals responsible for pork production in the country.
In 2024, national pork production reached 5.305 million tons, a 3% increase over the previous year. This growth was driven by domestic market demand and continued export growth. Brazil remained the fourth-largest global producer and the leading exporter free of African swine fever.
Domestic consumption has been one of the main drivers of growth in the industry. Last year, per capita pork consumption reached 18 kilograms per capita per year, consolidating a trend of increasing value for the product on Brazilian tables. The diversification of sales channels and the expansion of the cut mix have increased access to pork among new consumer profiles.
In international trade, the sector shipped 1.35 million tons in 2024, generating revenues approaching US$3 billion, maintaining Brazil's position among the world's leading players. Exports were directed to over 100 markets, notably China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Chile, and Singapore. By 2025, Brazil's presence in Southeast Asia and Latin America is expected to expand.
"The performance of the Brazilian pig industry is a direct result of the work of pig farmers. With professionalism, efficiency, and a focus on sustainability, they have ensured domestic supply, created jobs in the field, and promoted Brazil's competitiveness in the global food trade", emphasizes ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
ABPA congratulates all pig farmers on their day and reinforces its commitment to the continuous development of the sector, with a focus on markets, productivity and health.
