Brazil: Pork shipments grow 17 percent in February

Surveys by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) show that Brazilian pork exports (considering all products, both fresh and processed) totaled 114.4 thousand tons in February, a figure that exceeds by 17% the total shipped in the same period last year, with 97.8 thousand tons. This is the best result ever recorded in the month of February.

In terms of revenue, there was growth of 32.6%, with US$ 272.9 million in February of this year, compared to US$ 205.7 million obtained in the same period last year. 

Considering the first two months, shipments registered an increase of 11.6%, with 220.4 thousand tons this year, against 197.5 thousand tons shipped in the first two months of 2024. 

In the same comparative period, revenue grew 26.2%, with US$ 510.9 million this year, and US$ 404.8 million in the previous year. 

The Philippines remains the main export destination, with 23 thousand tons in February (+72% compared to the previous year). Next are China, with 19.4 thousand tons (-26.2%), Hong Kong, with 13.4 thousand tons (+49.8%), Japan, with 9 thousand tons (+61.8%), Chile, with 8.3 thousand tons (-0.2%), Singapore, with 6.5 thousand tons (+3.6%), Argentina, with 4.8 thousand tons (+313.1%), Uruguay, with 3.6 thousand tons (+13.1%), Ivory Coast, with 3.1 thousand tons (+58.4%) and Vietnam, with 3 thousand tons (+64.8%).

"This month we also saw Mexico gain great relevance, with more than 2 thousand tons, as a direct result of the renewal of the Mexican food security program. With this, in addition to the good demand indicators from the Philippines, Japan and other nations in Asia, Africa and the Americas, positive results are projected for this year", assesses the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin. 

Brazil's main pork exporter, Santa Catarina shipped 61.8 thousand tons in February (+14.2%), followed by Rio Grande do Sul, with 23.9 thousand tons (+13.8%), Paraná, with 17.9 thousand tons (+48.1%), Minas Gerais, with 2.3 thousand tons (+43.9%) and Mato Grosso, with 2.8 thousand tons (+21%).
