INTERPORC highlights the strength of the Spanish pork sector after a 2025 marked by health and trade challenges

The exercise has been conditioned by high-impact events, such as the detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) in wildlife, temporary restrictions in some international markets, the definition of new tariffs in China, and the approval of regulatory modifications in animal welfare.

In response, the sector has demonstrated a high capacity for reaction, institutional coordination, resilience and commitment to health, sustainability and food safety.

In parallel, 2025 has also been a year of opportunities and international expansion. Spain has strengthened its position as one of the world's leading producers and exporters of pork, with an intense trade agenda in strategic markets in Asia and Latin America; a prominent presence at international trade fairs such as SIAL China and Meat Attraction; and significant progress in regional health agreements, essential to guaranteeing the continuity of foreign trade.

On an institutional and reputational level, INTERPORC has intensified its activity as a unified voice of the sector, promoting communication campaigns aimed at society, strengthening dialogue with administrations and receiving important institutional recognition, such as the Food of Spain Award for Promotion 2025, which endorses its work in dissemination, transparency and enhancement of the Spanish pork model.

Furthermore, in 2025 the Interprofessional Association has reinforced its commitment to education, generational renewal, and connecting with new audiences, with initiatives aimed at young people, outreach programs, and innovative actions in digital environments. This work has helped to bring the pork sector closer to the public from a modern, rigorous, and data-driven perspective.

According to Alberto Herranz, CEO of INTERPORC, “2025 has been a demanding year, full of events that have tested the sector, which has demonstrated its strength, professionalism and ability to work together throughout the Spanish pork chain”.

Herranz emphasizes that “from the Interprofessional Association we have worked intensively to support the sector in the most complex moments, defend our markets, reinforce consumer confidence and continue to project Spanish pork as a model of responsible, competitive and sustainable production”.

Looking ahead to 2026, the CEO notes that “we are approaching the new year with caution, but also with ambition. The sector has done its homework and is ready to consolidate markets, adapt to the new regulatory framework, and continue advancing in sustainability, animal welfare, and innovation, with increasingly close and transparent communication with society”.

With this assessment, the white-coated pig sector and its interprofessional organization face 2026 with the aim of transforming challenges into opportunities, reinforcing its international leadership and continuing to be a key pillar of the Spanish agri-food system and rural areas.
