Challenges brought by pandemics are reshaping the meat industry and our reporters will be happy to provide you with the latest trends from the industry.
This year, Anuga is going to by held in two formats: online and face-to-face, which represents a novelty for the trade fair industry. This year there is a strong participation of more than 4,000 exhibitors from 94 countries at the trade fair.
"Hence, we will be the largest trade fair in Europe - if not indeed worldwide - after the re-start of the trade fair industry. The trade fair will be staged in 11 halls of the fair grounds. The newly constructed Hall 1, which satisfies all of the modern demands of a trade fair, will also celebrate its premiere during Anuga. This really is a strong signal, which we here at Koelnmesse and the trade fair industry as a whole can build on. The international meat industry is currently having to face diverse challenges: In addition to COVID-19, discussions about the working conditions in the meat factories and animal welfare, the African swine fever, price volatility as well as a radical change in eating culture through to the reduction in the consumption of meat are causing new problems. 5002 Anuga 2021 sets new path for the meat industry The event represents a restart for traders as pandemics has changed consumption trends all over the world.
EuroMeatNews.com is welcoming the organization of this year's edition of Anuga, a restart of the global food industry, a place where we meet old and new partners and friends for developing interesting and innovative projects. "After two difficult years we proudly say that the meat industry is back in business", declared Eugen Capra, CEO Carnexpo & EuroMeat News.

However, the event was not so attractive for some of the major players in the industry, such as Tonnies, Vion Food Group, Danish Crown, Westfleisch, or Wiesenhof, companies that decided to participate only online for this year's edition. "Uncertainty is still present in the global market, Covid crisis is also a threat and for some of those players, the physical presence may be uncomfortable. Nevertheless, we feel encouraged by this event as we have seen many people interested in getting the business done. Meat will always be a product highly traded so there is no end in this business", concluded Mr. Niculae.
#transform was the leading theme for the trade fair, as the industry faces new challenges brought by the Covid crisis. Cell-based proteins, meat substitutes, Clean Label as well as Free From, Health & Functional Foods were presented during the event held in Koln, Germany. Organizers announced that more than 4,000 exhibitors from 91 countries have been present at this edition. 5094 USMEF elects new chairman Mark Swanson is succeeding Pat Binger in this position.
Mark Swanson, chief executive officer of Colorado-based Birko Corporation, is the new USMEF chairman, succeeding Pat Binger of Cargill Protein North America. Since joining USMEF in 2008, Swanson said Birko has benefited significantly from the federation’s expertise and from the contributions exports make to the growth and profitability of the US red meat industry.
“The reason Birko became involved with the US Meat Export Federation is that as a critical supplier to the industry, we know that exports are absolutely vital to the profitability of our customers,” he said. “Birko’s support for our customers is what drove us to assist USMEF in its quest to grow meat exports. Probably the greatest aspect of USMEF that has helped Birko, and many of the organizations that we work with, is the technical knowledge and the technical skill of the USMEF staff – which is second to none,” Swanson added. “This is what propels us to outpace the competition because we’re simply better at understanding the markets.”

Swanson heads an officer team reflecting the wide range of USMEF membership sectors. Dean Meyer, a corn, soybean and livestock producer from Rock Rapids, Iowa, is the new USMEF chair-elect, and Edgerton, Minn., pork producer Randy Spronk will serve as vice-chair. 5258 Top Butcher Chef contest to be held first time at CARNEXPO Grill 2022 This event, a premiere in the East European market, will take place in Olimp, at Phoenicia Blue View resort at the Black Sea.
CARNEXPO Grill, the most important local gastronomic event, organizes, for the first time, the international Top Butcher Chef competition, between May 5-6, 2022 at Phenicia Blue View in Olimp, in order to promote and develop the butchers' guild in Romania.
Top Butcher Chef is the first competition that aims to select the best master butchers, bringing face-to-face teams of professionals from the country and abroad who will go through several competition tests, judged by an international jury, in the fight for the grand trophy: Butcher of Romania.
"Much more than a simple competition, Top Butcher Chef is about the art of learning, sharing and innovating through new meat processing techniques designed to contribute to the specialized development of the meat industry. The concept of Top Butcher Chef aims to create an environment in which Romanian butchers try to overcome the current practice of the industry in its various stages of production: general preparation, meat cutting, exhibition and creative use of beef, pork, sheep and poultry products. Through this competition, we want to build a professional community that will generate business opportunities and supports the general trade to benefit from an infusion of creativity and innovation," said Eugen CAPRA, CEO of CARNEXPO Grill.

Top Butcher Chef will take place in the most awaited gastronomic event in Romania, CARNEXPO Grill 2022, for three hours, and each competing team will have at its disposal half a carcass of beef, half a carcass of pork, a lamb whole and five chicken carcasses, which you will have to turn into value-added products.
The participating teams will be able to provide their own spices, marinades and garnishes to finish the products that will be designed to inspire and exceed the limits. The finished products will then be presented as if they could be marketed in a retail setting. The jury consists of independent referees, selected by the organizers from the most important specialists in the world specialty industry, and will score each team according to technique and skills, workmanship, product innovation, overall finish and presentation.

The first edition of the Top Butcher Chef competition is all the more important as it responds to the current challenges regarding the lack of skilled workers in factories and slaughterhouses in Romania. The current crisis of skilled workers in the meat industry is getting worse every year, becoming a deep global problem. The technical and vocational education system in Romania does not meet the demand on the local labor market. So far, Romania do not have vocational schools in the public educational system to prepare new generations for this industry, in practice vocational training is done at work. "The organization of Top Butcher Chef within CARNEXPO Grill is just the first step we take in collaboration with Agrofood Association, a partnership that aims to establish the first National Butchery Team of Romania and the Professional School of Butchers, social-educational training projects and education of future butchers. In this way, we invite all partners and specialists in the meat industry to join this bold project that brings concrete solutions for the very existence of the butcher business in Romania ", added Eugen Capra.
With over 15 years of experience in promoting the meat and meat products sector in Romania, CARNEXPO Grill specialists are launching new challenges for the meat industry with which it aims to prepare new generations of specialists to ensure the future of the Romanian meat sector.
For more details on enrolling in the first edition of Top Butcher Chef, please contact CARNEXPO Grill representative:
Dorinel NICULAE - 0728086130, office@industriacarnii.ro
    Events 2022-01-28 12:19:39 2025-07-30 03:40:53 Details Edit Delete
5281 Garra International wants to expand its presence in the Middle East One of the largest F&B fairs in the world will take place this February, in Dubai; two thirds of the animal protein products that Garra exports from Brazil have Arab countries as destination
Gulfood, the main food and beverage trade show in the Middle East – and one of the largest in the world – will take place between February 13 and 17, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Among the more than 400 organizations expected for the event, one of them, the trading company Garra International, stands out for the deep commercial exchange that promotes between Brazil and the countries of this region.

This relationship has become increasingly important for Brazilian exports of animal protein. In 2021, for instance, out of the 4.6 million tons of chicken meat shipped, almost a third (1.33 million) were destined for countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen, according to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).

This same upward trend can be seen with Garra, which has consistently increased its exports to Asia and Africa. In 2010, 57% of its products that left Brazil went to the Middle East; today this rate is at 65%. To disembark, all items have the Halal certification - which designates foods, products, and services that can be consumed by Muslims.

"The halal protein market has been growing year after year, not only because of the demand from Arab countries but also due to the Muslim communities spread all over the world," says Frederico Kaefer, CEO of Garra. "This is one of the reasons that makes us have a qualified presence at the Gulfood. However, there are others: a fair of such size and with such diversification ensures great visibility to Garra and has the potential to generate big businesses."

During Gulfood, the company will be at stand 310, located in Hall 3 of the Meat & Poultry area.

Growth strategy

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, between 2021 and 2030 the chicken meat export to the Middle East should increase by 23.5%, reaching around 4 million tons. Beef exports will grow at a slower pace, from 1.1 million tons per year to 1.3 million tons.

This growth is explained mainly by the expansion of the purchasing power in developing countries, as the population gradually increases its daily consumption of high-quality food.

Considering this trend, Garra, which already negotiates 120 thousand tons of animal protein per year – sold to around 500 clients in more than 60 markets – has a plan that is both ambitious and feasible: to increase its turnover by five times, from US$ 200 million to US$ 1 billion in ten years. And the Middle East, as well as Asia and North Africa, play a key role in this goal.

"There is an enormous potential for supply growth, as we are dealing with a diversified market with extremely high demand. With this in mind, we maintain operations in ten countries, including Brazil, the United States, Egypt, the UAE, and Australia, and offer customized financial solutions so that everyone can buy or sell in the world's major centers," says Frederico. "Customers, after all, are looking not only for a quality product but also trusted relationships and relevant connections."

About Garra

Garra is a trading company that combines expertise and an international network of contacts to create relevant connections between the two ends of the animal protein supply chain, buyers and suppliers. Founded 26 years ago, the company has operations in more than ten countries and clients in about 60 markets. Garra offers complete solutions, including customized financial conditions, to maximize revenue in each operation.
    Events adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-02-07 12:09:05 2025-07-27 11:21:23 Details Edit Delete
5300 Gulfood 2022 supercharge the international food market The event hosted at the World Trade Center Dubai reveals new dimensions of international trade.
For the last couple of days, Gulfood 2022 Dubai has unveiled a new picture in the international F&B trade, with innovative products launched by several participants at the event and a dimension of trade in the Middle East. As an example, UAE's food and beverage trade crossed the $20 billion mark in the first 9 month of 2021, according to a new analysis from the Dubai Chamber of Commerce.
Imports accounted for the largest share of the UAE’s F&B trade during January-September 2021 period, amounting to $12.8 billion, followed by exports ($4.1bn) and re-exports ($3.3bn).
For the last decade, UAE’s F&B imports, exports and re-exports grew at a CAGR of 0.6%, 7.5% and 6%, respectively. Imported fruits and nuts accounted for the largest proportion of the UAE’s imports at 13%, followed by meat (11%) dairy products (10%) and oilseeds (7%). India was the UAE’s top F&B trading partner in the first nine months of 2021. India accounted for 12% of the UAE’s total F&B trade value. It was followed by the US (7%) Brazil (6%) Australia (5%), Canada (5%) and Saudi Arabia (5%). 10 markets accounted for about 66% of the UAE’s total F&B exports from January-September 2021, with Saudi Arabia ranking first in this category with a share of 17%, followed by Oman (9%), Kuwait (8%) and China (5%).
Since May last year, Dubai launched the first phase of the Food Tech Valley, an initiative that aims o triple the UAE’s food production and will include a smart food logistics hub, R&D facilities as well as agricultural technology and engineering labs.

Time to re-define the world of food

On the other hand, 4000 companies and industry leaders from 120 countries are discussing the opportunities brought in the international landscape by new technologies and the advance of e-commerce in the food market along with challenges resulting from the COVID crisis. This 27th edition of Gulfood is more focused on major global challenges, trends and change drivers, including e-commerce, technology, sustainability and disruptive cellular agriculture bio-innovation (the production of animal-sourced foods from cell culture methods) and emerging slow and plant-based food trends.
At the same time, the event hosted the launch of Gulfood Zero Waste, a global campaign in partnership with restaurants and hotels driving the zero waste initiative globally. The initiative also provides a platform for impact-driven, homegrown companies, including a partnership with The Waste Lab, which is implementing solutions to repurpose food, such as compost, with societal and economic benefits. The Gulfood 2022 onsite Zero Waste Mega Impact will aim to collect 1,000 kg of food wastage to produce 400 kg of compost, equating to a CO2 emissions saving of 1,000 kg.
The innovative campaign will culminate in an award ceremony recognising zero waste-leading restaurants.

Responding to consumers demand

As the impact of the pandemic was felt all over the world. some of the leaders in the industry have responded quickly to the new lifestyle adopted by the consumer. One example comes from Seara, a JBS subsidiary, which is set to launch Seara Shawaya, a first-of-a-kind innovation in the frozen foods category. Chicken for Roasting is the latest innovation from Seara that seeks to fill the gap where no added value products are offered. Developed with the Middle East woman in mind, the product offers variety and novelty while addressing key consumer needs around convenience, taste and quality. On-site, Seara's chef will present the 'freezer to oven' halal product for tasting, giving visitors and potential customers the opportunity to taste the delicious flavors while noticing the ease of preparation.

"Following the company's commitment to innovation and quality, we are proud to present our new range Seara Shawaya, the novel solution in the frozen poultry category. Roasted chicken has long been a favorite among the population in this region, and we are glad to be offering this new category that promises to meet the consumer's need for convenience, taste and speed of preparation, tailored to local tastes and flavor preferences. Tested during research among consumers in the region, the product guarantees to simplify the daily lives of women today, who juggle multiple roles with a greater demand of their time than ever before.", said the company in a press release.

As poultry and beef are some of the products in high demand in the Middle East, Friboi is adding a new range of premium products dedicated to consumers in the region: Friboi Black and Friboi 1953. "By showing our premium product ranges, we want to emphasize to the market that Brazilian beef has the same quality as American and Australian beef. Moreover, we are expecting to close new contracts and to expand our market share in the Middle East and Africa," declared Renato Costa, President of Friboi.
Derived from a breed of cattle originating in the United States and bred on farms in Goiás, Friboi Black is an exclusive range focused on creating a memorable and unforgettable food experience for consumers, reiterating the quality of Brazilian beef.

The cattle intended for the Friboi Black range are checked by a highly qualified technical team to meet all the strict specifications of the Black Program. Only 1% of Friboi cattle make it to the production stage at the age of 18 months and are fed with grain for at least 180 days. These factors are scientifically proven to add tenderness, marbled texture and quality, as well as consistency and smoothness to the beef.

The other range is 1953, ideal for consumers with more demanding palates. It involves innovative processes using the best selections of beef and raw materials produced from European breeds, offering a unique gastronomic experience through the perfect balance between flavor, smoothness and succulence. "Our efforts aim to develop best practices across the entire process, from the welfare of the animals to the delivery of the end-product," added Mr. Costa.
    Events 2022-02-15 12:14:19 2025-07-30 11:04:20 Details Edit Delete
5303 Brazil promoted duck meat shawarma at Gulfood ABPA started a promotional campaign for duck meat in 2021 and targets the MENA region through new innovative products.
Since August last year, Brazil has launched a promotional campaign for duck meat produced in the South American country. Under the brand "Brazilian duck" the product was promoted in several markets around the globe and this week has arrived under an innovative form at Gulfood. For the first time, Brazilian poultry producers have served duck meat shawarma to the visitors who arrived at the trade fair. "We have been offering the tasting of shawarma with chicken for several years, and our partner company, Villa Germania, had the idea of participating with the duck as well. It has been a success; everyone wants to taste it," ABPA's Marketing and Commercial Promotion manager, Isis Sardella declared for the MENAFN agency. According to the manager, the average is 1,500 snacks served per day. Around 400 of them are made from duck meat sent by Villa Germania, the first company to join the Brazilian Duck initiative.
Currently, the main destinations for duck meat produced in Brazil are Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Peru, Qatar, Kuwait, Japan and Hong Kong but Villa Germania, a Brazilian enterprise, looks to enhance its presence in the Middle East and North Africa. Founded in 1996, Villa Germania is the largest duck meat production and export unit in Latin America. We want to expand. Today, we export the whole duck, and it is still very elementary and basic. 5363 CARNEXPO Grill - The first barbecue concept that reunites the Romanian business elite The third edition of the event will take place on May 5-6 in a new location, Phenicia Blue View in Olimp and adds new culinary shows, announced Eugen Capra, general manager, CARNEXPO Grill.
CARNEXPO Grill, now in its third edition in 2022, is a unique concept in Romania that will take place on May 5-6 in a new location, Phenicia Blue View in Olimp and will attract the most important specialists in the food industry. beverages, HoReCa and retail, both from Romania and abroad.
More than 3,000 experts are expected to attend the beachfront, in a luxurious location that allows the event to be extended to a much larger area of up to 15,000 square meters.
It is by far the most important gastronomic event in Romania that brings together most professionals in the food industry, HoReCa and retail, in order to develop business and discover new products and market trends. As every year, delegates of foreign experts from the Republic of Moldova, Serbia, Hungary, Belgium and Germany, Italy, Spain, France will attend this event.
Eugen Capra, general manager of CARNEXPO Grill, spoke about the evolution of this project and about the novelties of this year's edition.

How did the CARNEXPO Grill project come to life and how did it perform during the first two editions?

The project was born from the need of producers to promote their range of grilled meat products, and because we have been the organizers of the CARNEXPO exhibition for many years, we kept the line and chose to develop a new barbecue concept for the Romanian market.
I thought of it as a premium outdoor event that combines the business side with the relaxation, so necessary in an industry where a lot of work is done and which constantly needs the development of new concepts and products. Indeed, it is much different from a classic exhibition, where the emphasis is on networking and business matchmaking. We started promoting the event in 2020, through a series of video episodes, in which together with famous Chefs in Romania, such as Chef Orlando Zaharia and Chef Iulian Olaru, we promoted local products from several regions of the country. Through this action, we managed to create a favorable image for Romanian producers, promoting gastronomy and beautiful tourist locations of Romania.

During the first edition, in 2020, we focused on offering our guests from HoReCa and retail interactive culinary shows, in which Chefs showed different techniques for preparing several categories of meat products: pork, poultry, beef, sheep. Chef Orlando Zaharia, Chef Iulian Olaru, Chef Antonio Passarelli, Chef Michael Passarelli, Chef Paul Siserman, Chef Dragos Bercea delighted the over 200 experts and enthusiasts from the basic sectors of the food industry, HoReCa and retail. Also, butcher shows made by Moldovan's specialists revealed the mastery of Romanian butchers and the quality of local products.

In 2021, the project confirmed that it is the most successful gastronomic event in Romania, managing to attract over 1,500 specialists from the meat industry, HoReCa, retail, equipment suppliers and food ingredients. This is practically the moment when we understood that we managed to lay the foundations for the implementation of this barbecue concept around which the Romanian business elite gathers to do business.
The feedback received in 2021 from the participants from HoReCa and retail determined us to expand the event area to this year's edition, especially as the HoReCa operators on the coast, but also from the rest of the country are interested in identifying new suppliers of meat, but also of cheeses, drinks or bakery products. We promote the concept of barbecue, in which meat is the star, but around it we build a complete experience for our specialist guests.

How is this year's event structured, what's new?

This year's edition proposes a much more complex experience, in terms of the new structure of the event, which involves the largest space so far - 15,000 square meters. Remaining true to its main mission, that of promoting local products and Romanian services, CARNEXPO Grill takes place in 2022 in a different area of the country, by the sea, in a 4-star location - Phenicia Blue View Resort in Olympus.
Basically, together with the most important meat producers, we will make the official opening of the 2022 grill season in Romania. At the same time, with the partners from HoReCa and tourism, we will make the official opening of the 2022 summer season, through which we want to encourage tourists from Romania and abroad to come and visit us and taste the new Romanian gastronomy.
At the same time, we present the new event format dedicated to consumers - GrillFest Experience, through which we aim to bring a new grill experience to consumers and to support the food education of Romanians. We will bring with us well-known nutritionists to provide quality information on proper and tasty food, but also on the benefits of sports for maintaining health.
People need to eat simpler and healthier food without feeling pressured to give up certain foods. And the meat industry doesn't have to be put in a bad light. We see that many manufacturers are investing heavily in developing safe and healthy products. Consumers need to find out which combinations work best for them in order to have a balanced diet.
The GrillFest concept involves an area with grill stands, where visitors can learn all this information directly from experts in the field and experience new food combinations.

What shows and contests are scheduled to liven up this year's event?

For the first time in Romania, we organize Top Chef MACELAR, the first competition that aims to select the best master butchers, bringing together teams of professionals who proudly represent the butchers' sector. The competitors will go through several tests, judged by a panel of specialists, in the fight for the great trophy of Chef Butcher of Romania.
In this field, innovation is very important, the category of semi-prepared, ready-to-cook, ready-to-eat must be developed, but also the styles of cuts of meat on different categories, such as pork, chicken, beef or sheep. Equally important is the positioning and presentation of these products. Romanians like already established products (small, sausages, burgers), but research is needed to create new products, in line with popular taste trends globally.
Top Chef MACELAR is a project very dear to our soul, which promotes the essence of this industry, which we have been serving for over 15 years and we want it to become a traditional competition in Romania.
Without such a competition or without the School of Butchers - another important project that we will launch, there is a risk that this profession will not have a future in Romania. We have young people who are really passionate about this profession, who do not have the opportunity to develop in our country, which is why the Butchery School that we will launch together with the Agrofood Association and Pallazzo Italia needs the full support of the Romanian meat industry.

What are the values of this new competition?

Much more than a simple competition, Top Chef MACELAR is about the art of learning, sharing and innovating through new meat processing techniques designed to contribute to the specialized development of the meat industry. The concept of Top Chef MACELAR is intended to create an environment in which Romanian butchers try to overcome the current practice of the industry in its various stages of production: general preparation, meat cutting, exhibition and creative use of beef, pork, sheep and poultry products. . Through this competition, we want to build a professional community that will generate business opportunities and supports trade to benefit from an infusion of creativity and innovation.
In this way, we invite all partners and specialists in the meat industry to join this bold project that brings clear solutions for the very existence of the butcher business in Romania.
The organization of the competition is only the first step we take in collaboration with the Agrofood Association and Pallazzo Italia, a partnership that aims to establish the first National Butchery Team of Romania and the Professional School of Butchers, social-educational projects for training and education of future masters butcher. We have already started the research stages with specialists from Italy, in order to develop new types of cuts and different products, which will bring benefits to the meat industry.
The participation of the Romanian butchers' team in all international competitions will be done through the specialized magazine EuroMeatNews.com, another project of ours that grows from year to year and which at this moment is the most important publication on the meat sector. globally.

What will the gastronomy area look like this year?

For us, the gastronomy area is very important, and through the partnerships, we have with ANBCT, HORA, RESTO Constanta, Escoffier Romania, Associazione Cuochi Italieni, we will organize competitions and culinary demonstrations with the most important Chefs in Romania, in order to refine and modernize the Romanian gastronomy. The national teams of Romanian chefs will be with us, internationally recognized pastry chefs and bakers will set the trend in Romanian cuisine.
Mainly, we aim for Romanian products to be taken over by these culinary masters and later, through the partners from HoReCa and retail, to reach the tables of consumers in the country and abroad.

Will CARNEXPO Grill reach the borders of the country again?

We are living through difficult times for all mankind, and our thoughts are certainly on understanding and peace. CARNEXPO Grill was very well received last year by the authorities and specialists of the Republic of Moldova and we have high hopes that we will organize it again in 2022. We also presented the concept of several European associations in the meat industry and we plan a special edition at Brussels, in the autumn, which will include the lobby we want to make at the European level.

What is the message you send to the producers? Why should I attend CARNEXPO Grill?

Our message is one of unity, of developing partnerships between specialists and implicitly of growing the Romanian economy. The motto of this year's edition is the Great Unification (of Romania) and we expect all the industries involved in this gastronomic show to find the best collaboration solutions to be able to provide consumers with quality products at competitive prices.
We are a team specialized in marketing and event organization, with over 15 years of experience, which has confirmed over time, through all the projects it carries out, that it wants to contribute to the development of the agri-food sector in Romania.
Therefore, the companies from the Romanian industry are invited to support as much as possible this project, which is an excellent business platform in the development of local businesses. Only through such projects can we create a favorable picture for the Romanian industry.
The meat industry suffers from a lack of communication and promotion of meat products. That's why, at CARNEXPO Grill, we have integrated a nutrition and sports area, and together with the partners from HoReCa, we aim to educate consumers, to eat as healthy as possible and to do sports. Only with the involvement of food industry operators will we be able to raise the level of performance of the sector, in order to continue to provide safe and quality food.

About this year's event

15,000 sqm will host 8 dedicated areas:

MEAT EXPO The main exhibition area / area of the event in which the participants have the opportunity to exhibit their meat products and preparations and to personalize their stand according to the promotional campaigns they have in progress

- TECH Area / technology, equipment, consumables and software services, all in the same place, an area dedicated exclusively to this segment essential for the modern production of meat and meat products, but also for the technological needs of retail and HoReCa

- WINE & CHEESE Area / area dedicated to producers of wines, beer and other alcoholic beverages and traditional partners in the cheese area

- HORECA Area / HoReCa segment receives at this edition, its own area where participants can promote their products and services for the HoReCa segment

- SWEETS & SNACKS Area / from bakery, pastry and confectionery, to ice cream or sandwiches, the sweets & snacks area comes naturally in addition to the grill experience

- BUSINESS Lounge / area dedicated to business meetings and networking, where participants can rent booths that they can optimize and customize according to preferences

- GASTRO Area / a tradition of the event already, is also hosted in an area specially dedicated to culinary shows, which this year will host the first national butcher contest: TOP CHEF BUTCHER, simultaneously with a traditional gastronomy contest

- BEACH LOUNGE / relaxation area, a journey dedicated to culinary art, fine drinks, music and entertainment concepts and events

    Events 2022-03-18 09:09:08 2025-07-30 05:35:49 Details Edit Delete
5413 €1.79 billion pledged in humanitarian appeal for the Sahel and Lake Chad regions For the third consecutive year, the countries of the Sahel and West Africa are facing a food and nutrition crisis of exceptional proportions.
In response to unprecedented levels of acute food insecurity in the Sahel and Lake Chad regions, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has joined with the international community in calling for urgent scaling up of emergency assistance and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable people and agrifood systems.

On Wednesday, a special high-level meeting on “Food and nutrition crises in the Sahel and Lake Chad regions: time to act now and better mobilize in Sahel and West Africa for the future” was co-organized by the Sahel and West Africa Club, the European Union and the Global Network Against Food Crises, co-led by FAO. The meeting brought together policy-makers and other non-state actors from the Sahel and West and Central Africa, and their international partners with the aim to mobilize more humanitarian food, nutrition and livelihoods-saving assistance for the most affected populations and renew a long-term political commitment to structural policies addressing the underlying causes of food and nutrition crises.

Pledges totalled around some €1.79 billion against a Humanitarian Appeal for the entire Sahel and West Africa region of €3.8 billion. This includes an additional €67 million in humanitarian assistance announced by the European Union, bringing its total contribution for the affected countries in the Sahel and Lake Chad regions to €240 million in 2022 so far. The European Union has also set aside €654 million for 2021-2024 to provide a long-term development assistance response to the structural food crisis in the seven most affected countries.

For the third consecutive year, the countries of the Sahel and West Africa are facing a food and nutrition crisis of exceptional proportions. Acute food insecurity almost quadrupled between 2019 and 2022, from 10.8 million to 40.7 million people respectively, with millions more at risk of slipping into a crisis situation or worse. Seven countries including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Nigeria, in particular, are bearing the brunt. For the first time acute food insecurity in the region is stretching beyond the Liptako-Gourma and Lake Chad region to hit coastal countries like Benin and Sierra Leone.

Large proportions of these populations are rural people who rely on some form of agriculture for their survival and both the humanitarian response and lasting solutions must take this into account and place the people of the Sahel, their priorities and needs at the centre of efforts to address this deepening crisis. At a time when international food and fuel prices are at all time high, the urgency of supporting production of nutritious food closest to where it is needed cannot be overstated.

This situation is a result of long-term structural issues including poverty, a lack of availability and access to basic social services and protracted insecurity. Recent socio-economic shocks, extreme weather events and the impacts of COVID-19, the atypical increase of prices of basic food commodities and the very serious consequences of the war in Ukraine, are all exacerbating the food and nutrition situation. These converging and compounding shocks could cripple gains and lead to further cascading humanitarian needs.

“Any delayed response will have massive consequences and a severe cost for the future in a context where more than 30 million of Sahelians are already considered on the verge of starvation, with potentially 11 million more as of June this year,” said Laurent Thomas, FAO Deputy Director-General who represented the Organization at the meeting. “Significant efforts are needed to provide an immediate response but also to address the root causes of this crisis, otherwise levels of acute hunger will continue to rise.”

“With the increase of cost of food, the ones expected to suffer the most are the already most vulnerable for whom food represents the largest share of the budget of the family. We should also not underestimate the consequences the spike increase of the cost of fertilizer will have on yields and local food production availability. There is absolute urgency to re-invest in local food production together with humanitarian food assistance and safety nets. Investing in saving agriculture livelihoods today means saving lives of millions tomorrow. Countries of the Sahel region need to invest in making agrifood systems more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable,” he added.

The priority for FAO is to make sure agriculture and related activities are never disrupted and therefore to ensure that farmers and agropastoralists, including internally displaced persons, be provided with time-critical inputs including seeds, fertilizers, particularly in the event of increased prices, ahead of the upcoming main planting season in the region. Security issues and early transhumance driven by climate change, extreme weather and violence require adapted response to support pastoralists, in the form of animal feed and veterinary care to prevent livestock losses.

Agricultural production and access must be at the centre of efforts to mitigate this crisis – in both the immediate term and as a core part of lasting solutions – to finally reverse the upward trend of acute hunger.

FAO’s goal is to provide urgent agricultural livelihoods assistance to rapidly secure local, nutritious food production, laying the pathway to resilience building, while also tackling the multiple underlying vulnerabilities that are driving recurrent food crises in the Sahel. For example, providing them cash alongside adapted seeds, livestock feed, improved water sources and regenerating degraded land.
    Events 2022-04-08 09:41:27 2025-07-30 02:43:27 Details Edit Delete

5472 IFFA hosts 860 exhibitors from 44 countries Strongly represented, after the German companies, are exhibitors from Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, France, Denmark and the USA.
The outlook for the meat and protein industry and its suppliers is positive despite difficult underlying conditions. German production of process technology for this sector rose to a peak in 2021, and exports were also at a record level despite the pandemic. The German butchery trade also reports a high willingness to invest. At IFFA in Frankfurt am Main, 860 exhibitors from 44 countries will showcase innovations for processing, packaging and selling meat - and increasingly also alternative proteins.

One of the biggest food industry segments is meeting from 14 to 19 May at the leading international trade fair IFFA – Technology for Meat and Alternative Proteins – in Frankfurt am Main. For this edition, the focus will be on the safe and sustainable supply of healthy proteins – be it meat or plant-based protein – to a growing world population. The traditionally high internationality of IFFA will also be achieved this year: 58% of the companies come from abroad. Strongly represented, after the German companies, are exhibitors from Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, France, Denmark and the USA.
Wolfgang Marzin, President and CEO of Messe Frankfurt: "IFFA is our second trade fair event here in Frankfurt, and it’s going to start off an intensive trade show year 2022 after a long break. We are delighted with the great response from the industry, which unites here with forward-looking solutions for sustainable and healthy nutrition for a growing world population. IFFA comes at the right time – that's what everyone involved tells us: There are important topics to be discussed, and the industry needs the innovation boost for its business. With the new theme of alternative proteins, IFFA is positioning itself as the world's leading trade fair, clearly setting the trend and, thus, also reflecting current consumer behaviour."

Back to pre-pandemic levels

Current key figures paint a positive picture of the meat and protein industry: As reported by the relevant trade association within the VDMA, German production of food processing and packaging machinery increased by 7% in 2021, almost returning to the pre-crisis level of 2019. Strong domestic demand and exceptionally high sales of machinery to the USA underscored the good development. By contrast, the continuing disruptions to supply chains and bottlenecks on the materials and procurement markets were and still are a brake on the economy. Klaus Schroter, Chairman of the IFFA Advisory Board and Chairman of the VDMA Meat Processing Machinery Division, says: "We are very pleased that IFFA 2022 can take place on the scheduled date. All exhibitors will show numerous innovations for the efficient and sustainable production and packaging of meat and alternative proteins. We are also particularly looking forward to the personal exchange with the trade visitors from all over the world."

The German butchers' trade, one of the most important visitor groups at IFFA, wants to invest in automation and digitalisation, especially against the backdrop of staff shortages. According to a recent survey of members of the German Butchers' Association (DFV), just over 50% of artisanal butchers are planning above-average investments in 2022. Herbert Dohrmann, President of DFV: "At IFFA we will once again find technological innovations that will help our businesses move forward. We need innovations that help to save energy and protect the climate, facilitate work processes, increase the quality of our products and retain customers or even win new ones.”

A new market is rising

For the first time in its 70-year history, IFFA is expanding its product nomenclature and is presenting technologies and solutions for plant-based meat substitutes and alternative proteins. In doing so, it is following up on the trend towards plant-based meat alternatives, which is recording high growth rates. In a recent study, the US-based Good Food Institute projects that sales of plant-based meat substitutes will account for about 6% of the global meat market by 2030. Currently, Western Europe is the world's largest market for those products. Established companies in the food industry have recognised the importance of the sector and are investing in the segment accordingly. Sales of plant-based meat substitutes in the European retail sector were €2.3 billion in 2021 – 19% more than in the previous year. Over 200 exhibitors at IFFA offer products for the production of meat alternatives. In addition, there will be further information on this forward-looking topic in the supporting programme. New partners of IFFA, such as the Federal Association for Alternative Protein Sources Balpro, the Good Food Institute Europe and the nutrition organisation ProVeg, will contribute their know-how.

    Events 2022-05-16 08:00:47 2025-07-30 14:20:23 Details Edit Delete

5678 Today starts the Belgian Meat Office Round Table For the 17th edition of the Round Table, the trade press is invited to Ghent: a surprising city in the heart of Europe.
With its characteristic waterways and rich culinary tradition, Ghent is a perfect location for an interesting programme about the Belgian meat sector. This traditional meeting will start with a visit of Corma NV, which produces the Famous Ganda ham following ancient Flemish tradition and artisanship, and referring with its name to the place of origin: Ghent. Ganda ham it is available as whole hams, but the company also offers an extensive range of pre-packaged products such as smoked ham, Angus Beef and Mangalica ham. During the visit the guests will have the pleasure of meeting Liesbet Pluym, who will introduce Meesterlyck – the quality label for Belgian ham. Meesterlyck has been the hallmark for quality cooked ham and dried ham since 1992 and is known for its authenticity, honesty and purity. The Meesterlyck label has become a trusted symbol for pure and above all tasty ham . Meesterlyck ham must meet the strictest quality requirements and is checked throughout the entire production process.

The production process of a Meesterlyck ham is not only subject to very strict standards and conditions, the standards are also significantly stricter than European legislation. Meesterlyck hams mainly differ from other hams due to the minimum amount of additives and additives that can be used in the hams.

The next point of attraction in the program prepared by the Belgian Meat Office team will be the visit of Van Bogaert BV, which is known as specialized in deboning and cutting of hams, with a highly modern infrastructure. This will be a good opportunity for a debate with key speaker Michael Gore, Managing director FEBEV wondering if “Is there still music in Meat?”

The 17th edition of the Round Table is expected to be a success through the lens of the information shared by the invited specialists, as well as by promoting Belgian quality meat products.

Belgian Meat Office is the first port of call when getting in touch with the Belgian pork and beef export companies. The meat export office was founded in 2003 under the umbrella of the VLAM, Flanders’ Agricultural Marketing Board, and it coordinates the promotion of pork and beef export. On the one hand by offering export support and on the other through B2B promotion.
    Events adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-08-30 04:46:59 2025-07-30 02:56:56 Details Edit Delete
5700 Meat House is exhibiting at BFE & CARNEXPO 2022 Meat House company, member of Van Rooi Group, will participate as an exhibitor at the Bucharest Food Expo & CARNEXPO 2022 to promote quality products and to find more partners on the Romanian market.
The presence at the exhibition is very important for the company's development, as Armen Meserlian, Managing Director of VRC MEATMED LTD/Meat House, told us in the exclusive interview below:

What goals have you set for participating in Bucharest Food Expo & CARNEXPO 2022?

Our main goal is to create and strengthen the brand of our new Meat House slaughterhouse that operates in Romania from April 2021. Our participation in Bucharest Food Expo & CARNEXPO offers the opportunity to increase the awareness of our project in Romania through communication and and empathy to our partners, emphasizing that we are the future for the Romanian pork industry.

How would you describe the meat market in Romania and what kind of partnerships do you propose to local processors?

In one word I can describe it as the future, and that is why, since 2016, we have been investing heavily in entering this market. The investments we have made in buying land, building pig farms with state-of-the-art technology and operating our slaughterhouse shows how much we believe in the Romanian market.

The type of partners we are looking for are serious buyers who are committed to long-term collaborations and are not only interested in spot deals. In another way, we are looking for partners who want to be partners, companies with stable businesses that are ready for development based on quality and mutual respect.

How do you characterize the pig sector at the moment? How has it evolved in recent years?

If I have to characterize the current pork sector in one word, then I would simply say complicated. From my 17 years of experience in the meat sector, I can say that every 2-5 years the industry is hit by an extreme incident that has serious consequences for the global meat sector.

If we go back to the timeline, we list some events as follows:

The global recession from 2008 to 2013 which made many companies go bankrupt, therefore credibility was lost between sellers and buyers, business was constrained due to lack of cash flow

2018-2019 global pork industry was dictated by events in China regarding African swine fever

2 years ago we had a pandemic that affected the global supply chain and meat consumption

Today we are witnessing a stagflation that has resulted from the Russia/Ukraine war.

What products will you promote at the exhibition stand?

At Bucharest Food Expo & CARNEXPO we will promote our entire range of pork products and we invite all specialists from the meat industry and retail to our stand A026 to get to know us and to establish long-term partnerships.

Request a meeting with Meat House representatives at the Bucharest Food Expo & CARNEXPO exhibition that will take place between 29.09- 02.10 2022 at Romaero in Bucharest, Romania.
    Events adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2022-09-07 08:55:23 2025-07-30 03:09:47 Details Edit Delete
