8036 Brazilian meat industry grows in 2024 and projects new advances in 2025 Brazil’s poultry and swine industries will end the year with new records and project growth for next year, according to data released by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) . The information was presented at a press conference held in São Paulo (SP).
In the case of chicken meat, ABPA predicts a total production of up to 15 million tons in 2024, a number around 1.1% higher than that recorded in the same period last year, with 14.833 million tons.

Of this total, 9.7 million tons were destined for the domestic market, a volume almost equivalent to the total for 2023, with 9.694 million tons. Per capita consumption is expected to be 45.6 kilos, 1.1% higher than that recorded last year, with 45.1 kilos.

In the international market, chicken meat exports are expected to total 5.3 million tons in 2024, 3.1% higher than the volume shipped in 2023, with 5.139 million tons.

For 2025 , the sector projects to produce up to 15.3 million tons (+2.7%), with availability of around 9.9 million tons (+2.1%), with per capita consumption of 46.6 kilos (+2.2%) and exports of up to 5.4 million tons (+1.9%).

"The Brazilian economic situation should maintain sustained levels of consumption in the domestic market, supported by the continued competitiveness of the sector. In the external scenario, new market openings are expected in Central America and African countries, in addition to increased shipments to other nations in Latin America and Asia, which should increase the diversification of destinations for our products", assesses the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

In the case of pork, production is expected to close 2024 at 5.35 million tons, a figure 3.8% higher than that recorded in the same period last year, with 5.156 million tons.

Domestic availability of the protein will total around 4 million tons, 1.9% higher than the availability recorded last year, with 3.926 million tons. Per capita consumption in the sector this year will grow by up to 3.8%, potentially reaching 19 kilos per capita.

The sector's exports are expected to close the year with 1.35 million tons shipped, a balance up to 9.8% higher than that recorded in 2023, with 1.23 million tons.

For 2025, the sector projects production of up to 5.45 million tons (+2%), with domestic availability of 4 million tons (stable), per capita consumption of 19 kilos (stable) and exports reaching up to 1.45 million tons (+7.4%).

"In the foreign market, there is an expectation of an improvement in the flow to China, in addition to the qualification of new plants for destinations in Latin America, which will add to the continued demand from pre-listing markets, such as the Philippines and Chile. Domestic consumption of pork should be positively influenced by the good competitiveness of the product among meats, also influenced by production costs at balanced levels", highlights Santin.

As for the egg sector, production this year, 2024, is expected to reach 57.6 billion units, a figure 9.8% higher than the previous year, with 52.448 billion units.

Per capita consumption will reach 269 units in 2024, a figure 11.2% higher than that recorded in the previous year, with 242 units.

The sector's exports are expected to reach 18 thousand tons, a volume 29.5% lower than last year, with 25,404 thousand tons.

For 2025, the sector projects production of 59 billion units (+2.4%), with per capita consumption of up to 272 units (+1.1%) and shipments of 21 thousand tons (+16.7%).

"There are optimistic expectations regarding the increase in egg consumption levels in Brazil, reaching levels never seen before, which reinforces the consolidation of the protein as a basic consumption item in the country. In the international market, the opening of the European bloc and United Kingdom markets to the product is expected next year, which should change the flow of exports to positive levels", highlights the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.
    Market adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2024-12-17 00:20:04 2025-08-15 17:16:39 Details Edit Delete

1334 Brazil's meat industry in jeopardy for lack of feed as the fuel crisis deepens Brazil's truckers refuse to end strike although the government recently offered a series of concessions regarding fuel prices and various Brazilian industries are struggling over lack of deliveries and transport options, Financial Times reported.
Brazil's meat industry is in shambles after an eight-day nationwide strike over soaring fuel prices. The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) reports disruptions in the flow of products and feed for poultry and swine farming.

According to a survey conducted by the Association with its members, trucks with feed, inputs for the production of animal feed (such as corn and soy) and other products are prevented from circulating in more than 300 points in 22 states across the country.

The association also stated that since the strike began producers had to cull nearly 70 million birds and if the crisis goes on they may be forced to dispose of a similar number of birds. ABPA says that 1 billion chickens and 20 million pigs are not receiving the necessary amount of feed. Furthermore, because of the strike, volumes close to 120,000 tons of chicken and pork have ceased to be exported.

According to Financial Times, the crisis cost the industry so far about $350 million in losses.
    Industry 2018-05-29 13:04:56 2025-08-15 03:22:45 Details Edit Delete

7997 JBS broke the record of 44 thousand promotions in 2024 Brazil's largest employer, the company has promoted 44,000 people to new positions this year. This unprecedented milestone is the result of investment in its professionals as a growth strategy
In 2024, JBS broke its record of 44,000 promotions. This number represents 28% of the company's workforce: with 158,000 employees, JBS is now the largest employer in Brazil. The milestone reached this year represents a 69% increase compared to 2023. It is also higher than the projection set by the company at the beginning of the year, when JBS announced its commitment to promote 40,000 people.

These figures are the result of the company's investment in its workforce, as a lever to drive the company's growth. "JBS's mission is to be the best at what it sets out to do, ensuring the opportunity for a better future for all its employees. It was with this goal in mind that we expanded our internal training programs, ensuring that everyone on our team is prepared to take advantage of the best opportunities", says Fernando Meller, executive director of Human Resources at JBS Brazil.

This is the case of Deyvdson Lima, 35, one of the employees promoted in 2024. Lima, who has been at JBS for 12 years, started as a production assistant, has already been promoted four times and is currently the Industrial Manager of the Itapetinga (SP) unit. "People who work at a company that recognizes good professionals stop caring only about their current salary and start worrying more about doing a job well and preparing themselves to take on greater responsibilities", he highlights.

He says that since he joined JBS, his monthly salary has increased 11 times, allowing him to undertake important personal projects, such as buying his first car and his first house. "My children, a 12-year-old boy, a 10-year-old girl and a four-year-old girl, study in good schools and I provide them with a good life, with a better standard of living than I had when I was a child".

Fernando Meller emphasizes that the Company offers the necessary tools for employees to develop the skills needed for career advancement. 7912 Global markets: Beef imports in Japan plummet in September Brazil's fresh beef exports hit a record high in both quantities and revenues. According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the volume shipped reached 270.3 thousand tons in October, which represents an increase of 7.4% monthly and 45.3%, compared to the 186.1 thousand tons shipped in October 2023.
The countries that imported the most beef from Brazil in 2024 were: China, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Hong Kong and Chile. In terms of price, the average value in October was USD 4,660 thousand per ton, a slight increase of 1.4% compared to the value negotiated a year ago, generating revenues of USD 1,259 million, compared to USD 855.6 million in October 2023.

In Australia, beef exports are not reaching a ceiling, supported by demand from the United States. Although exports totaled 130,048 tons in October, the country is on track to comfortably surpass the maximum of 1.28 million tons per year established in 2014. In the first 10 months of the year, the cumulative total is 1.097 million tons, 24% more than last year to date, adding 215 thousand tons.

Shipments to the United States accounted for 34% of the total in the last month, with 45,338 tons, the second highest figure in history behind September 2014 when the US industry was going through a stock recovery cycle and Australia placed 47 thousand tons in that market. So far this year, the 317,532 tons of Australian meat imported by the United States represent a year-on-year increase of 66%, almost 127 thousand tons more than in January-October 2023.

Beef exports in the United States posted good results in September. According to data published by the USDA and compiled by the United States Meat Export Federation (USMEF), beef exports in September totaled 103,980 tons, 5% more than the previous year, while sales value rose 6% to $843.8 million.

With the exception of China/Hong Kong, exports last month were higher than a year earlier in all major Asian markets, while demand remained strong in Mexico and shipments to Central America were the largest in 18 months. From January to September, overseas sales rose 5% in value to $7.82 billion, although volume fell 2% to 960,814 tonnes.

Beef imports in Japan plummet in September. Beef imports from Japan fell 21.9% in September from the previous month to a seven-month low of 38,177 tonnes. This is the lowest level since February 2024.

This monthly slowdown can be traced back to the challenges of Japan’s scorching summer, which reduced consumption in the food service sector and led to inventory build-up in key regions such as Tokyo and Osaka. The Obon festival in mid-August was initially expected to boost eating out after the rainy season, but typhoons around that time disrupted plans and further slowed inventory turnover.
    Market adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2024-11-14 00:10:22 2025-08-15 08:59:32 Details Edit Delete

8480 Bird flu in top chicken exporter Brazil triggers trade bans Brazil, the world's largest chicken exporter, confirmed its first outbreak of bird flu on a commercial farm last week, triggering a country-wide trade ban from China and state-wide restrictions for other major consumers, according to Reuters.
Brazil exported $10 billion of chicken meat in 2024, accounting for about 35% of global trade.

China, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are among the main destinations for Brazil's chicken exports.

Brazil's Agriculture Minister Carlos Favaro said that China had banned poultry imports from the country for 60 days. Under agreements with Japan, UAE and Saudi Arabia, he said a trade ban would only restrict shipments from the affected state and, eventually, just the municipality in question.

The outbreak occurred in the city of Montenegro in Brazil's southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul, the farm ministry said. The state accounts for 15% of Brazilian poultry production and exports, national pork and poultry group ABPA said in July 2024.

BRF has five processing plants operating in the state. JBS has also invested in local chicken processing plants under its Seara brand.

Veterinary officials have begun isolating the area of the outbreak in Montenegro and culling the remaining birds, in line with protocol, the state agricultural secretariat said.

"A complementary investigation will be carried out within an initial radius of 10 km (6 miles) from the area where the outbreak occurred, and into possible links with other properties", the secretariat said.

Favaro, the farm minister, said Brazil was working to contain the outbreak and negotiate a loosening of trade restrictions faster than the two months stipulated in protocols.

"If we manage to eliminate the outbreak, we think it's possible to re-establish a normal trade flow before the 60 days are up, including with China" Favaro said in an interview aired on CNN Brasil.

Chicken products shipped by Thursday will not be affected by trade restrictions, he added.

The ministry said in a statement that it was officially notifying the World Organization for Animal Health.

"All necessary measures to control the situation were quickly adopted, and the situation is under control and being monitored by government agencies", industry group ABPA said in a statement.

JBS referred questions about the outbreak to ABPA.

BRF CEO Miguel Gularte told analysts on an earnings call that he was confident Brazilian health protocols were robust and the situation would be quickly overcome.

Bird flu has swept through the U.S. poultry industry since 2022, killing around 170 million chickens, turkeys and other birds, severely affecting production of meat and eggs.

Bird flu has also infected nearly 70 people in the U.S., with one death, since 2024. Most of those infections have been among farmworkers exposed to infected poultry or cows.

The further spread of the disease raises the risk that bird flu could become more transmissible to humans.

Brazil, which exported more than 5 million metric tons of chicken products last year, first confirmed outbreaks of the highly pathogenic avian flu among wild birds in May 2023 in at least seven states.

The disease is not transmitted through the consumption of poultry meat or eggs, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement.

"The Brazilian and world population can rest assured about the safety of inspected products, and there are no restrictions on their consumption", the ministry said.

ABPA about the identification of H5N1 outbreak

Regarding the identification of an H5N1 outbreak on a poultry farm in the municipality of Montenegro (RS), the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) and the Rio Grande do Sul Poultry Association (ASGAV) emphasize the total transparency of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, together with the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation (Seapi) of Rio Grande do Sul in relation to the identification, communication and containment of the situation, which is punctual.

ABPA and ASGAV are supporting MAPA and Seapi in this process. All necessary measures to contingency the situation were quickly adopted, and the situation is under control and monitoring by government agencies.

At the same time, the entities trust in the speed of the negotiations that will be adopted by the Ministry and the Secretariat at all levels, so that any effects arising from the situation are resolved as soon as possible.

Finally, ABPA and ASGAV remind that the situation in question – as well as any other occurrence of the disease in birds – does not represent any risk to the end consumer.
    Market adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2025-05-19 00:30:32 2025-08-15 14:11:26 Details Edit Delete
