Increasing its imports by 12%, the shipments that reached the Chinese market were 179,9 thousand tons between January and May of this year.

Francisco Turra, president of ABPA, explained that Brazil's exports of chicken meat have been affected significantly by the truck drivers' strike that began on 21 May, which caused a shortage of food, medicines and oil at a nationwide level.
| 1 | Market | 2018-07-02 11:31:03 | 2025-08-15 13:09:21 | Details Edit Delete | ||
2401 | Best performance for Brazil's chicken meat exports in the last three years | Brazilian chicken meat exports totaled 4,100 million tonnes in 2018, according to the Brazilian Association of Animal Proteins (ABPA). |
Although the Brazilian poultry sector reported massive losses in the first half of 2018 as an aftermath of the trade bans and the truckers' strike that paralyzed the country between May and June, in the second half of last year it managed to regain growth and the average monthly production in this period actually outperformed its results from the last three years.

ABPA said that the chicken meat exports picked up in the second half of 2018, reporting an average of 377,300 tonnes per month and reached a three-year high. With this significant growth, the Brazilian chicken sector reduced its losses accumulated in the first six months of 2018 (-13.4% compared to the first half of 2017) and closed the year with a 5.1% decrease compared to the 4,320 million tonnes exported in 2017.

Part of this performance was based on the positive balance obtained by the sector in December. Exports in the last month of 2018 reached 352.8 thousand tonnes, 9.9% more volume than the 321.1 thousand tonnes shipped in the same period of 2017.

Total exports in 2018 generated revenues of US $6.571 billion, 9.2% lower than in the previous year. The good performance of sales in the month of December guaranteed a rise of 11.3% for the period, with a balance of US $581.4 million - against US $522.5 million in December 2017.

ABPA expects the positive trend to continue in 2019 as the Brazilian sector intends to increase its foreign chicken sales.

"It is expected that the good flow achieved in the second half of last year will continue in 2019. This is due, among other reasons, to the actions that the productive sector, led by ABPA, will adopt through Project 500K, which aims to achieve the monthly average of 500,000 tonnes in the total exports of poultry and pork until the end of 2020," explained Francisco Turra, president of ABPA.
| 1 | Market | 2019-01-09 09:50:38 | 2025-08-15 03:04:19 | Details Edit Delete | ||

In terms of revenue, growth is even more expressive, with US$ 2,587 billion obtained in the period, compared to US$ 2,142 billion in the same period last year – an increase of 20.8%.

Among the main export destinations in March, China maintained its leadership, with 46.4 thousand tons shipped – a volume 19.3% higher than that recorded in the same month of 2024. Several of the highest value-added markets showed significant increases, which was also reflected in higher revenue growth in relation to volumes", highlights ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
| 1 | Retail | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2025-04-08 00:20:37 | 2025-08-15 13:20:54 | Details Edit Delete | |
8558 | ABPA: Chicken meat exports remain at 400,000 tons in May | Brazilian chicken meat exports (including all products, both fresh and processed) reached 393.4 thousand tons in May, according to surveys by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). The number is 12.9% lower than that recorded in the same period last year, with 451.6 thousand tons. |
Export revenue obtained in the period totaled US$ 741.1 million, a balance 9.5% lower than in the same month last year, with US$ 818.7 million.

"Even with the suspensions applied by approximately 20 markets, including some of the main destinations for chicken meat exports, shipments remained close to 400 thousand tons. The impact, so far, has been proportionally smaller in relation to the relevance in the history of imports from countries with suspensions applied. This is an indication that the redirection of cargo is occurring as a way to maintain the flow of shipments in the international market", highlights the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

In the year (January to May), the exported volume reached 2.256 million tons, a figure 4.8% higher than that recorded in the same period last year, with 2.152 million tons.

Revenue recorded in the first five months of this year reached US$ 4.234 billion, a balance 10.18% higher than that achieved in the same period in 2024, with US$ 3.842 billion.

Among the markets that influenced the export result in May were China, with imports of 35.8 thousand tons (-28% compared to the same period last year), South Africa, with 25.5 thousand tons (-20.5%) and Mexico, with 16.6 thousand tons exported (-18.8%). At the same time, exports to the European Union grew by 46.2%, with 24.8 thousand tons registered in the month.

"The drop in volumes shipped was within the industry’s projections, considering the suspensions resulting from the registration of an outbreak of Avian Influenza on a commercial farm, a situation that has already been resolved. Sales to China, South Africa and Mexico fell to the expected levels. In the case of the European Union, sales to the market were at a considerably high pace, which justifies the increase, even with the self-suspension applied in the second half of May", assesses ABPA president, Ricardo Santin.
| 1 | Retail | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2025-06-10 00:20:49 | 2025-08-15 05:44:07 | Details Edit Delete | |
5932 | Brazilian chicken meat exports remain high in November | Brazilian chicken meat exports (considering all products, fresh and processed) totaled 375.6 thousand tons in November, informs the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). However, the logistical effects generated by landslides on highways in Paraná and the weather difficulties for ships to enter the Ports of Paranaguá and Itajaí impacted the performance of exports in the month. With the normalization of activities in the ports, the volume that was not shipped in November should positively reflect the performance of exports in December”, details the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

In the survey by country, China, the largest importer of chicken meat from Brazil, imported 40.3 thousand tons in November (1.4% more than shipped in the same period of 2021). Other highlights were South Africa, with 27.8 thousand tons (+21.9%), Saudi Arabia, with 24.6 thousand tons (+28.9%) and the European Union, with 18.1 thousand tons (+ 17.6%).

"Other markets in Europe, Asia and the Middle East reinforced their purchases from Brazil this month, indicating positive projections for Brazilian chicken meat exports for this year. These are important revenues compared to the current cost of production, which remains high", analyzes the director of markets, Luis Rua.
| 1 | Market | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2022-12-12 04:40:12 | 2025-08-14 12:43:40 | Details Edit Delete | |
7799 | Chicken meat exports grew 22.1 percent in September and record second best performance in history | Brazilian chicken meat exports (considering all products, both fresh and processed) totaled 485 thousand tons in September, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). The number is 22.1% higher than the volume shipped in September 2023, with 397.1 thousand tons. It is the second best monthly performance in the history of the sector – the highest in the series occurred in March 2023, with 514.6 thousand tons. |
September also recorded the second-highest monthly revenue ever obtained by Brazilian chicken meat exports, with US$953.8 million, a balance 32.6% higher than the ninth month of 2023, with US$719.3 million. The highest monthly balance in history also occurred in March 2023, with US$980.5 million.

In the year (January to September), chicken meat exports accumulated an increase of 0.6%, with 3,917 million tons in the first nine months of this year, against 3,892 million in the same period of 2023. The accumulated revenue between January and September of this year reached US$7.273 billion, a number 4% lower than that obtained in the previous year, with US$7.578 billion.

"The strong increase recorded in September reversed the performance recorded throughout the year, which is now positive and indicates that it will continue to be so until December. With the increase in average export prices, we also had an increase in revenues in September at levels significantly higher than those recorded in volumes", advises the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

The main destination for chicken meat exports, China, imported 55.1 thousand tons in September, a volume 3.4% lower than the previous year. In a different movement, the United Arab Emirates imported 41.4 thousand tons (+17.6%), followed by Japan, with 36.5 thousand tons (+48.6%), Saudi Arabia, with 29.9 thousand tons (+5.9%), South Africa, with 28.4 thousand tons (+38.2%), Mexico, with 23.8 thousand tons (+57%), the European Union, with 23.7 thousand tons (+58%) and Ghana, 16.1 thousand tons (+198.4%). The Philippines, with 15.9 thousand tons (-4.3%) and Kuwait, with 13.1 thousand tons (+66.2%) complete the top 10.

The largest exporter of chicken meat in Brazil, Paraná, exported 195.6 thousand tons in September, a volume 20% higher than in the same period last year. Next are Santa Catarina, with 105.6 thousand tons (+23.1%), Rio Grande do Sul, with 63.2 thousand tons (+12.4%), São Paulo, with 28.1 thousand tons (+30.5%) and Goiás, with 19.5 thousand tons ( +3.4%).

"Eight of the top 10 Brazilian chicken meat importers recorded strong increases in their imports. Even among those with lower performance in the monthly comparison, there is good news. This is the case of China, which summarized imports at levels above 50 thousand tons. Another relevant aspect is the increase in imports from markets with high added value, such as Japan, which had a positive impact on the performance of revenues recorded in September. The movement is also positive among Islamic nations, and should continue to do so in the coming months, since the logistics flow to these destinations was adjusted in light of the conflict situation in the region", adds ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
| 1 | Market | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2024-10-09 00:20:33 | 2025-08-15 07:30:40 | Details Edit Delete |
