8632 Egg exports grow in the first half of the year Brazilian egg exports (including fresh and processed products) totaled 24,915 tons in the first half of 2025, according to a survey by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). This volume is 192.5% higher than the 8,518 tons shipped in the same period last year.
Revenue from exports between January and June reached US$57,759 million, a result 216.3% higher than that recorded in the same period in 2024, with US$18,622 million.

In June alone, egg shipments reached 6,558 tons, a figure 308.3% higher than that recorded in the same month of 2024. Revenue obtained in the month was US$ 15,659 million, a balance 288.8% higher than in June of the previous year.

The United States established itself as the main destination for Brazilian exports in the first half of the year, with 15,202 tons shipped (+1,247%), generating revenue of US$33.1 million (+1,586.2%). Next comes Mexico, with 1,586 tons and US$6.9 million in revenue, and Japan, with 1,570 tons (+152.1%) and US$3.7 million (+143.2%).

Other highlights include Angola, with 686 tons and US$1.1 million; Sierra Leone, with 473 tons (+359.6%) and US$766,000 (+373.5%); and Uruguay, with 369 tons (-14.3%) and US$1.24 million (-18.5%). On the other hand, Chile recorded a 16.6% drop in volumes (2,426 tons) and a slight 2% drop in revenue, with US$6.85 million.

"Egg shipments reached historic levels in the first half of the year, with a significant expansion of Brazil's presence in strategic markets such as the United States, Mexico, and Japan. This scenario reinforces the international market's confidence in the quality, biosafety, and competitiveness of Brazilian products. If current market conditions remain, the expectation is that the second half of the year will consolidate a new cycle of growth in the sector's exports, without significant impacts on the domestic supply of products," advises ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
    Market adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2025-07-15 00:05:51 2025-08-10 07:01:06 Details Edit Delete

3710 Danish restaurants to switch faster from direct foodservice to takeaway The Danish government eased the regulation for foodservice operators to tackle the impact of lockdown in frond of coronavirus outbreak.
Restaurants and other operators from Denmark's foodservice sector can from today sell take away directly to consumers or via digital platforms without first having to report it to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, announce the Ministry of Food. The scheme will create new opportunities for the restaurateurs in a difficult time, says Food Minister Mogens Jensen.

To ease the situation of restaurants and cafes, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration is now changing its guidelines and making it easier to start selling take away. As of today, restaurants, cafes, etc. that do not normally take away can sell their food either directly or through one or more of the digital platforms that provide take away food. They can do this without registering the takeaway activity with the National Food Authority. Usually, eating places must otherwise report all changes in food activities.

"Coronavirus has put us in a very special situation that requires action. We need to do what we can to help desperately needed restaurants and cafes. The new approach is not the salvation of all eateries - but it may be helpful to some. That is why I am also very aware of whether we can do even more in the coming time to ease the situation of the restaurants without compromising on food security," says Food Minister Mogens Jensen.

Restaurants and cafes are no longer allowed to be open to dining guests to limit the spread of covid-19. The efforts to combat coronary infection mean that several restaurateurs may lose revenue and risk layoffs or closure.
The new approach is for a limited period, and until the situation with Covid-19 is more clarified. The Food Authority assumes that the delivery of takeaway takes place in food safety in a sound manner and that the companies have control of risk analyzes.

If the companies wish to continue with takeaway delivery after the crisis, it must be registered with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.
    Industry 2020-03-19 09:19:19 2025-08-10 07:01:16 Details Edit Delete
962 UK pork exports started off slow in 2018 UK's exports of pork reported a modest increase of almost 1% this year in January compared to the corresponding period of 2017, reaching a total of 17,000 tons, according to the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).

AHDB analyst Bethan Wilkins says that in spite of this the average unit export price was 3% higher compared to last year's, although farmgate prices have been lower recently. In terms of value, the pork export market was situated at £22.5 million in January, with an increase of 4%. Wilkins says that the increase could partially reflect a rise in export of higher value, boneless cuts. "These export volumes reached almost 3,800 tonnes, 18% above year-earlier levels."

UK's exports of pork to China were down in January compared to year-earlier levels by 29% to 2,600 tons. "This was the main cause of the drop in bone-in shipments, as China is the UK’s primary destination for these cuts," said Wilkins.

On the other hand, pork exports to the European Union reported significant increases, particularly to Ireland and Denmark. "Interestingly, while fresh/chilled shipments continued to make up the majority of exports to the EU, exports of frozen pork increased by more than half," added Wilkins.
    Market 2018-03-19 10:56:19 2025-08-10 07:01:28 Details Edit Delete

Agriculture Minister Miroslav Toman said that he does not exclude a ban on Polish beef imports, considering the fact that this is the second alert triggered by the beef industry in this country after the "sick cow" scandal that took place last month.
Beef production in Poland is about 560,000 tonnes and 85% of that is exported to the other EU Member States and third countries.
Last month, a TV documentary showed a Polish abattoir killing sick cows whose meat was meant for human consumption. 6681 Danish Crown will deliver 11 million pigs this year Danish Crown's shareholders have confirmed that they will deliver approximately 11 million pigs in the coming year. Based on that figure, the business must now be sharpened and competitiveness restored.
Danish Crown's competitiveness has been under increasing pressure since spring 2022. The settlement for pigs in Denmark is currently far behind the rest of Europe. So even though the current listing for pigs is close to a record high, Danish Crown's settlement is far too far behind both the European average and the settlement in Germany.

Therefore, it has not been sufficiently attractive for Danish farmers to fatten pigs for slaughter in Denmark, so over the summer the management has worked purposefully on a plan to simplify and renew Danish Crown's core business. It is ready now. The business must be made more efficient so that earnings are lifted by a minimum of DKK 1.5 billion ( 1 DKK = 0,13 EUR ) within two years - and preferably sooner. At the same time, sales efforts must be segmented and focused to a greater extent on those customers who either prioritize Danish pork and products from Danish Crown or want a business partner who works purposefully with sustainability.

"I would like to praise our owners for supporting the Danish value chain from farm to table, because it makes it possible to manage production much more tightly and at the same time carry out an imperative simplification and renewal of our business model. Despite the headwinds of the past year, we have actually succeeded in maintaining our market shares in products for the retail trade and food service. Now we must gain volume, and in that way move our entire business over time", says Group CEO Jais Valeur.

The plan has been named Horizon and the goal is to move Danish Crown from a slaughterhouse with large-scale operations as a focal point to a modern food company. The main features of the plan are:

The administration and support functions must be made more efficient so that the costs on an annual basis are reduced by a minimum of DKK 250 million.

An improved utilization of the capacity at slaughterhouses and factories as well as a more streamlined and high-tech setup must reduce production costs by at least DKK 500 million.

Sales efforts must be focused on core customers within retail, foodservice and industry, so that partnerships are built with customers who demand data-driven traceability and sustainability, so that earnings increase by DKK 500 million.

The profitability of the German slaughterhouse activities and at the processing factory in China, together with the completion of the investment in the new bacon factory in Great Britain, will contribute to DKK 250 million.

Additional opportunities have been identified for savings on purchases and potential for increased earnings in the group's subsidiaries, which can potentially contribute up to DKK 500 million.

The efficiency plan comes at a time when the majority of the Danish Crown group has actually developed positively over a number of years, but the core business, which is organized in what is called BU Danish Crown, and which is responsible for the slaughter of pigs in Denmark and Germany as well as the processing of primarily pork, is challenged.

The pressure on that part of the business is primarily triggered by an unusually long and deep dip in exports to key markets such as China, Japan, the USA, Australia and South Korea. In the past, Danish Crown has always been able to find alternative sales channels outside Europe if one or more of the attractive export markets failed for a period. But when the prices of frozen pork on the world market are significantly below the prices of fresh pork in Europe, Danish Crown cannot maintain its competitiveness, because the costs due to the high Danish wage level for slaughtering, cutting up and deboning pigs in Denmark are over 1 kroner higher per kilos than in countries such as Germany, Poland and Spain.

Danish Crown must therefore sell more in an already competitive European market with a broad preference for local products. The solution is to redefine the business model and focus all efforts on producing and selling products that can be sold at a sufficiently high price to compensate for the higher production costs in Denmark, otherwise Danish pork will always be just another choice compared to local products with a lower selling price and our higher production costs.

"We cannot solve our challenges with savings and efficiencies alone, as this is also a matter of business model, but we owe it to our shareholders to cut to the core in the current situation. It will initially help to close part of the gap to the other European countries. At the same time, it is a fact that efficiency and maximum utilization of production facilities is the way to make money in the food industry. This is not new for us, but after we combined our pig slaughterhouses and processing activities into one business unit two years ago, we have not been sharp enough, so we are rectifying that now", says Jais Valeur.

As a consequence of the streamlining plan, a number of significant changes in the management and organization of BU Danish Crown will take place with immediate effect.

"We have a number of talents who already know our company in detail. Now they - flanked by a number of experienced colleagues - are given more responsibility, and I have no doubt that the team will go down in Danish Crown's history as the ones who moved Danish Crown from being a slaughterhouse to be a value-creating, modern food company for both customers and consumers", concludes Jais Valeur.
Market adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 4761 Cherkizovo optimizes supply chain with help from KORUS Consulting The Group is reviewing current product flows and identifies the most effective changes that can be made to delivery routes.
KORUS Consulting has completed a project to streamline the supply chains of Cherkizovo Group, the largest meat producer in Russia. The project has enabled the Group to review its current product flows and identify the most effective changes that can be made to delivery routes. Going forward, a new IT solution will help the company achieve a reduction in monthly operating costs.
Cherkizovo Group is a producer with extensive manufacturing and logistics infrastructure that delivers its products to the federal retail chains and large fast-food chains across Russia, while also exporting them to other CIS countries, the Middle and Far East, and Africa. To optimize the existing supply chains, reduce storage and transport expenses and identify areas for potential growth, Cherkizovo needed an industrial-scale SCD system. They chose a solution based on LLamasoft Supply Chain Guru, and selected KORUS Consulting, a strategic partner of LLamasoft in Russia, as the system implementation expert.
Part of the project consisted in gathering a wide range of data, including information on logistics costs, process recipes, infrastructure facilities and production sites, clients, sales statistics and more. This helped develop key assumptions about Cherkizovo’s supply chains and business processes, including those on production singularities and limitations, freshness requirements (in particular, for the ultra-fresh category), customer experience, etc.
In addition to the global optimization of all Cherkizovo Group supply chains, the KORUS Consulting team had to deal with more specific tasks: they worked hard to increase the effectiveness of individual routes in certain regions of the country, optimize product sourcing with a focus on customer service patterns and improve overall margins. By following the recommendations drafted on the basis of modelling, Cherkizovo will be able to reduce its monthly storage and transport expenses, while also considerably optimizing the total operating costs.
"The complexity of supply chains in meat processing imposes certain limitations on both intra-company processes and associated support tools. For effective business growth, we must carefully weigh our every decision in terms of economics and customer service level. The implementation of the scenario planning tool helped us make more balanced decisions in a shorter period of time and consider their impact on all business segments, while also quickly identifying potential cost reduction and profit improvement opportunities," said Evgeny Subbotin, Director for Logistics and Supplies at Cherkizovo Group.

To automate the processing of data used in modelling and analysis, the team integrated the LLamasoft Supply Chain Guru platform with the ETL system of LLamasoft Data Guru. This IT tool helped simplify the processing, conversion and use of information for calculations.

"The models that we developed help manage supply chains in an effective manner and quickly test the most challenging business hypotheses in a risk-free environment. The use of digital twins quickly pays off: according to our estimates, the modelling recommendations will help the company reduce its operating costs on a monthly basis. The effective management of supply chains in Cherkizovo will contribute to the logistics and transport savings worth millions of rubles," commented Dmitry Krasilov, Head of Supply Chain Design at KORUS Consulting.

    Industry 2021-06-22 07:40:18 2025-08-10 07:02:55 Details Edit Delete

For the first time, Brazilian poultry producers have served duck meat shawarma to the visitors who arrived at the trade fair. "We have been offering the tasting of shawarma with chicken for several years, and our partner company, Villa Germania, had the idea of participating with the duck as well. It has been a success; everyone wants to taste it," ABPA's Marketing and Commercial Promotion manager, Isis Sardella declared for the MENAFN agency. According to the manager, the average is 1,500 snacks served per day. Around 400 of them are made from duck meat sent by Villa Germania, the first company to join the Brazilian Duck initiative.
Currently, the main destinations for duck meat produced in Brazil are Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Peru, Qatar, Kuwait, Japan and Hong Kong but Villa Germania, a Brazilian enterprise, looks to enhance its presence in the Middle East and North Africa. Founded in 1996, Villa Germania is the largest duck meat production and export unit in Latin America. We want to expand. Today, we export the whole duck, and it is still very elementary and basic. We want to start with shawarma and the cuts. We want to increase sales in the Middle East region by 40%,” explained Marcondes Moser, vice president of Operations at the brand, quoted by MENAFN.
The company operates already in Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

    Events 2022-02-16 15:04:49 2025-08-10 07:03:00 Details Edit Delete

5295 IFA complains about low prices in retail "Poultry and pig farmers are at crisis point," says IFA President Tim Cullinan.
IFA President Tim Cullinan has led delegations to meetings with retailers in the last week to highlight the severe loss-making situation for many farmers due to escalating costs. "Poultry and pig farmers are at crisis point. Without an immediate increase in returns, these sectors cannot continue without casualties," he said.
IFA spelled out to retail management that using food, particularly from sectors under such severe financial strain, in cut-price promotions is very damaging and ultimately undermines the value of what farmers produce.
Tesco, SuperValu, Centra and Lidl management have all met and listened to IFA concerns around farmers’ production costs and the impact on the viability of farmers. These retailers have committed to engaging directly with their suppliers of Irish chicken, eggs, pork and bacon, along with fruit and vegetables growers, that they deal with.

A substantial portion of the produce from these three sectors is sold on the retail shelves in Ireland. “These important players in the retail sector have a vital role. They must now prove to farmers that they have not only listened, but that they will follow through on these engagements with suppliers and ensure that farmers’ costs are covered and they can afford to stay in business,” he said.
Tim Cullinan said that IFA would work with any retailer to try find solutions and that negotiations across the table were always the best way to achieve this. He noted that not all retailers have been as open to dialogue with IFA and they must not be found wanting when it comes to recognising the pressure farmers are under.
Both IFA Poultry Chairman Nigel Sweetnam and IFA Pigs Chairman Roy Gallie said the Government’s inaction on retail legislation has left the farmer without any power in the food chain. Every link in the food chain deserves to have its cost recognised and an ability to recoup these costs, or the Irish food production system will fail. The retail grocery market in Ireland is dominated by five major retailers, controlling 90% of the market.

    Retail 2022-02-14 10:36:49 2025-08-10 07:03:44 Details Edit Delete
