1013 | Video - "Russian market is growing very fast!" |
"This year, the company is still growing. We have a lot of successful markets, Canada, the US, Asian market, European market, so we are very happy with the situation" mentioned Klaus Schroter, Managing Director of Schroter Technologie GmbH and chairman of the Meat Processing Machinery Group within VDMA (The German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association), for EuroMeatNews. His company is well represented on the local market but it also made its way on some important markets in the EU and nearby. "The Polish market is very successful at the moment, besides Austria and French market for example, but especially Russia is growing", considers Klaus Schroter, during Anuga FoodTec 2018. On the other hand, Brexit will not have any impact on the company since the British market it is open only to a small part of the equipment produced by Schroter Technologie, notest Mr Schroter. The new trends in the industry are represented by the energy savings, recipes on the processing lines and combined systems for meat products and all of them are also challenges for the companies present in this line of business, admitted the Managing Director of Schroter Technologie.
| 1 | Technology | 2018-03-28 12:27:07 | 2025-08-06 05:32:26 | Details Edit Delete | |||

8667 | Vall Companys Group reports a turnover of 4.163 Billion | The Vall Companys agri-food Group closed the 2024 financial year with a turnover of 4.163 billion euros, up from 4.148 billion euros in the previous year. This figure places the company among the top leaders in Spain’s food sector, alongside other national and international firms. |
According to the annual accounts soon to be filed with Spain's Commercial Registry, the group's growth was driven by two main factors: pork prices on the Mercolleida market—which has remained relatively high, though slightly lower than in 2023—and several business operations. These included the integration of Montesano into Frimancha Canarias (a group subsidiary in the Canary Islands) and the acquisitions of Ganaderías Casaseca in Castile and León, Comercial Vera in Palma de Mallorca, and Paletas Marpa in the Valencian Community.

The Vall Companys Group’s sales are distributed across diverse business divisions, each with both domestic and international sales channels. Of the total turnover, the three main business divisions stand out: 49.3% came from the pork division, 22% from poultry and 15% from flour.

Sales in the flour and poultry divisions are primarily domestic, with approximately 7% exported—similar to the previous year. Pork exports, however, account for 40%, with Central Europe standing out as the top destination, followed by Asian markets.

True to the Group's philosophy of continuous reinvestment, Vall Companys recognises that this commitment is key to maintaining its competitive leadership in the Spanish and global agri-food sector. That is why it continues to invest in its facilities in order to be a leader in innovation, quality and food safety.

During the financial year of 2024, it invested 118 million euros to improve the Group's facilities. The company’s policy of continuous reinvestment is a cornerstone of its stability, ensuring both national and international competitiveness. Between 2021 and 2024, the total investment in plant upgrades for the Group's companies amounted to 420 million euros.

The company achieved a net margin of 6.7% on sales to third parties, resulting in a net profit of 279 million euros. This represents an increase of nearly one percentage point compared to 2023. The improvement is due to several factors: the Group's ability to maintain production costs that are more competitive than market prices, its strategic hedging policy for sourcing raw materials for animal feed and energy, and the effective use of commercial synergies.

Welfare State and Supporting Rural Spain

Beyond profitability and the 118 million euros invested in industrial infrastructure, Vall Companys Group’s activities have broader positive impacts across Spain. The company contributes socially to the welfare state and to supporting rural areas in Spain.

In this context, it is noteworthy that the company contributed 174 million in taxes and social security payments on behalf of the group's companies, representing a clear contribution to the welfare state.

It is also worth highlighting that the company ended 2024 with a total of 14,406 direct jobs across its production plants and central services—an increase of 3% compared to the end of 2023. Most of these jobs are located in rural areas of Spain, where the Vall Companys Group operates its production centres.

The Group has also made continuous professional training an asset to foster internal talent. In 2024, it invested over 480,000 euros and provided more than 41,000 hours of training to its staff. Thanks to these efforts and other employability policies, the Vall Companys Group has earned the Top Employer certificate for the fifth consecutive year. This certificate recognises the Group as one of Spain’s leading employers.

International Expansion in Latin America

Since 2017, Vall Companys Group has gradually established itself as a minority shareholder in several companies across Latin America, including Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, and Brazil. All operations aim to build synergies, share know-how, and strengthen the livestock and meat value chain. The Group’s investment decisions have focused on markets with domestic production deficits, where there is a need to boost local production.

In 2024, the Group’s corporate structure in Latin America included a 45% stake in Vallpork Mexico and a 33% stake in Master Agroindustrial in Brazil. During the year, the company expanded its production capacity to include 18,000 sows, additional pig farms, and a feed mill.

In Brazil, Master Agroindustrial now manages up to 39,000 sows and over one million pigs for breeding, along with industrial facilities capable of slaughtering 3,000 pigs per day. In total, the company employs more than 2,000 people and works with 320 farmers.

The Group has strengthened its international presence. In recent years, thanks to exports, numerous talented local professionals have been able to grow professionally by specialising in international trade. Currently, this expansion process also represents a growth opportunity for many professionals within the Vall Companys Group.

Innovation and Circular Economy

The Vall Companys Group remains firmly committed to the valorisation of co-products from its production process. In previous years, it has launched projects to extract functional proteins from plasma and haemoglobin, and procedures have been initiated for an industrial project to obtain heparin from pig intestinal mucosa, in collaboration with the pharmaceutical company Bioibérica.
| 1 | Retail | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2025-07-25 00:15:11 | 2025-08-06 05:32:39 | Details Edit Delete | |
7925 | Brazil sets new record for beef exports in October | Shipments of Brazilian beef abroad reached a new record in October, reaching 301,166 tons, with revenue of US$ 1.36 billion. In the first ten months of 2024, the volume exported increased by 29.9%, reaching 2.4 million tons, while revenue grew by 22.8%, reaching US$ 10.5 billion. |
According to the analysis by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec) on the figures released by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), in the first ten months of 2024 alone, beef exports in Brazil have already practically equaled the result for the entire year of 2023, when the country exported 2.29 million tons, generating US$ 10.5 billion. The trend for the end of this year, according to Abiec, is for records to be maintained until December.

"To give an idea of the size and efficiency of Brazilian beef exports, it is enough to say that, in October, more than 400 containers were shipped per day from Brazil", explains the president of Abiec, Antônio Jorge Camardelli, who also states that, in the same month, the average prices of exported beef recovered by 5%, driven by the 7.4% increase in the average price of fresh meat .

China, Brazil’s largest market, imported almost 159,595 tons. "This confirms, once again, the partnership between the two countries. Today, China has a 54.4% share of the amount of beef exported by Brazil, and this is the result of a day-to-day effort to conquer and maintain this market, for which we have the partnership of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, ApexBrasil", argues Camardelli, who was in China, participating, with Abiec and ApexBrasil, in the China International Import Expo (CIIE), in Shanghai. The exhibition is an initiative of the Chinese government, through the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, in partnership with the municipal government of Shanghai, and also has the support of several international organizations, such as the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

United States remains the second largest buyer of Brazilian beef, with volumes of 27,940 tons and revenue of US$159.3 million last month. This represents an increase of 10.4% in volume and 12% in revenue compared to last September. The Philippines was the third largest destination for Brazilian beef last month, with 11,369 tons exported and revenue of US$42.7 million.

Considering the categories of beef products, 270,332 tons of fresh meat were exported ( representing almost 90% of the total), 16,022 tons of offal, 8,547 tons of processed meat, 2,926 tons of tripe, 2,824 tons of fat and 515 tons of salted beef.

In 2024, the ten largest buyers of Brazilian beef accounted for approximately 80% of all exports from Brazil. Markets such as China also stand out here, with volumes of over 1 million tons and revenue of US$ 4.8 billion between January and October, registering a 12.7% increase in volume shipped and a 3% increase in revenue compared to the same period in 2023.

The United States recorded a significant increase in shipments this year, of 69%, reaching 175,193 tons, with revenue of US$ 1.02 billion (an increase of 58.7% compared to the same period last year). The United Arab Emirates, with shipments of almost 125 thousand tons, Hong Kong with purchases of close to 100 thousand tons, Chile (86,587 tons), the Philippines (80,472 tons) and Egypt (78,080 tons), also deserved to be highlighted.

For Camardelli, the outlook for exports in the last two months of 2024 will depend on the balance between domestic market demand, as the end of the year approaches, and the possibility of industries negotiating what the foreign market has been demanding. "But, in any case, 2024 tends to close its results with record exports for beef both in volume and revenue", he concluded.
| 1 | Market | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2024-11-18 00:15:53 | 2025-08-06 05:32:45 | Details Edit Delete | |
1943 | Thirteen countries have banned pork imports from Belgium | Thirteen countries have imposed bans on the imports of pork and pork products from Belgium after the Belgian authorities detected ten cases of African swine fever disease in wild boars. |
The Belgian meat federation, Febev, has announced that the countries that applied restrictions on Belgian pork shipments are South Korea, China, Taiwan, Belarus, Mexico, the Philippines, Japan, South Africa, Singapore, Uruguay, Australia and Malaysia, Brussels Times reports.

The authorities announced that the restrictions vary from country to country. Some countries have imposed bans only on gelatine products, while others have restricted the imports of living animals.

Until now, there have been no cases of ASF reported in any of the Belgian pig farms.

Michael Gore, CEO of Febev, said in a statement that non-EU countries have strict import regulations which require the country with which they have trade agreements to be free of African swine fever. Mr. Gore added that with these countries ”there is no margin for negotiations; the imports are suspended.”

As explained by Febev's CEO, the Belgian pork industry is negatively impacted by the recent import restrictions as 45% out of its total pork shipments to third countries finally reach the Chinese and South Korean markets.
| 1 | Industry | 2018-09-21 16:01:36 | 2025-08-06 05:32:46 | Details Edit Delete | ||
5164 | Vaccine against specific strain of ASF developed in the US | Promising results have been obtained on European and Asian breeds of pigs against a virus strain recently isolated in Vietnam. |
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that its Agricultural Research Service (ARS) has developed a vaccine that protects pigs from a specific strain of ASF. This is a very important advance, although it has been pointed out that it is the beginning of a long journey before it can be used.
In autumn, a team of researchers presented results that indicate pigs administered the candidate vaccine not only survived but often remained free of clinical signs of illness when experimentally inoculated with an ASF virus strain that has been circulating in Vietnam. The work follows previous results, published in April 2020 in the Journal of Virology, that indicated the candidate vaccine was effective against a strain first identified in 2007 in the country of Georgia.
Researchers tested the candidate vaccine on two sets of mixed-breed pigs, some of them Yorkshire and Landrace crossbred pigs and some of them Vietnamese Mong Cai crossbred with either Landrace or Yorkshire pigs. The researchers checked for effectiveness of four different doses of the vaccine as well as how quickly the vaccine offered protection.

When challenged with ASF inoculation 28 days after vaccination, three of five pigs in the lowest-dose group developed the disease and were euthanized, but all pigs in the remaining three groups survived, which aligns with previous results. In a second experiment, the researchers found that the vaccine protected only half of the pigs challenged 14 days after vaccination, but all of the pigs challenged after 21 or 28 days survived without clinical signs of disease. According to the researchers, before being manufactured on a large scale, the vaccine must be tested for years to prove that it is safe and fully works. USDA indicates that the outlook is good since the first laboratory tests have shown the efficacy of the vaccine in pigs immunized and later exposed to that strain of the virus.
| 1 | Industry | 2021-12-22 05:24:43 | 2025-08-06 05:32:52 | Details Edit Delete | ||
6448 | South Korea reopened to German pork | Deliveries of German pork to the Republic of Korea (South Korea) are now possible again after a two-and-a-half-year ban as a result of the first detections of African swine fever (ASF) in Germany. |
The first three German slaughterhouses and processing plants were re-approved by the Korean authorities for export to South Korea. The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) had made intensive efforts to conclude a regionalization agreement in order to be able to resume trade from the unaffected regions of Germany.

Federal Minister Cem Özdemir explains : "Our efforts to lift the ban on deliveries of German pork to Korea are having an effect! I am very pleased that we have managed to make it clear that we have put in place effective protective measures against African swine fever in Germany. We are working on lifting bans on German pork from other third countries, especially with regard to China, and we will take every opportunity to do so. African swine fever and the following restrictions have dealt our pig farmers a severe blow - and in one Time in which many companies have been faced with further existential challenges and the associated structural breaks for years."

A key sales market in Asia has thus been reopened for German pork. In 2019, the Republic of Korea imported around 106,000 tons of pork from Germany, including around 41,000 tons of pork belly. With almost 298 million euros, Korea was the second largest buyer of pork from Germany among the third countries that year.

Due to the difficult negotiating position due to persistent outbreaks, from July 2021 also in domestic pigs, and the negative attitude of the Korean pork producers, the negotiations for a regionalization agreement have been very complex and lengthy. With the support of the EU Commission, which has also campaigned for the recognition of the entire EU's regionalization measures towards Korea, a milestone was reached last September with the formal recognition of regionalization by Korea.
| 1 | Market | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2023-05-25 00:15:22 | 2025-08-06 05:32:54 | Details Edit Delete | |
7942 | Brazil: Sao Paulo launched a voluntary bovine traceability program | The Brazilian state of São Paulo will begin a process of electronic individual traceability for cattle, similar to the one Argentine will implement. However, the main difference is that in Brazil the system will be voluntary, while in Argentine, under the government of Javier Milei, it will be mandatory from 2025. |
The announcement was made by the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, accompanied by the Secretary of Agriculture and Supply, Guilherme Piai. According to them, the goal is to achieve full traceability of the state's cattle by 2030.

"This system will start on a voluntary basis. International markets are imposing increasingly strict requirements regarding traceability, especially the European Union. Even China is looking into this issue, so we could not wait any longer", said Guilherme Piai, who also stressed that traceability will cover the calf.

The Argentine government has decided to implement a mandatory traceability system starting in 2025. By that year, the State will guarantee the availability of the system, but its mandatory nature has generated criticism among rural entities.

During 2024, several Argentine rural organizations, such as Confederaciones Rurales Argentinas (CRA), demanded that the system be voluntary rather than mandatory. This request had strong support from ranchers, especially from the NEA, NOA and coastal regions.

In São Paulo, the identification and traceability system, called Sirbov SP, plans to cover at least 20% of the state's herd by 2025, with an estimated stock of 11.5 million heads of cattle. The goal is to achieve full coverage within five years.

"The identification and traceability system for cattle and buffalo in São Paulo is essential to monitor the life cycle from the beginning, guarantee food security and, above all, open new markets", said Governor Tarcísio de Freitas.

Secretary Guilherme Piai stressed: "The system will be freely adopted by farmers, who will have the opportunity to improve the management of their herds".
| 1 | Technology | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2024-11-23 00:05:36 | 2025-08-06 05:32:56 | Details Edit Delete | |
8300 | FAO: The spread of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza calls for stepped up action | The spread of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza, bringing losses of hundreds of millions of poultry worldwide with increased spillover into mammals, highlights the urgent need for strengthened biosecurity, monitoring and surveillance, rapid-response mechanisms, and risk communication to safeguard the poultry sector and protect livelihoods and economies. |
FAO Deputy Director-General Godfrey Magwenzi described the spread of the disease as unprecedented, "leading to serious impacts on food security and food supply in countries, including loss of valuable nutrition, rural jobs and income, shocks to local economies, and of course increasing costs to consumers".

Among the complex challenges avian influenza poses are how to protect poultry production systems to ensure food security and the nutrition of the millions who rely on poultry for meat and eggs. Additional challenges revolve around safeguarding biodiversity, livelihoods and safe trade, and preventing social impacts, most often borne by poultry farmers, Magwenzi said.

Coordinated response needed

FAO Deputy Director-General Beth Bechdol emphasized that this is a transboundary issue requiring a global, coordinated response. "'FAO has been on the front lines of tackling this virus for over 20 years – supporting governments in detecting, preventing, and responding to outbreaks", she said. To strengthen these efforts, FAO and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) have launched a ten-year Global Strategy for the Prevention and Control of High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza.

Bechdol highlighted FAO’s role in combating avian influenza and other potential pandemic threats, underscoring the importance of strong veterinary and animal health system capacity in every country. “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. By working together, we can reduce the impact of avian influenza and protect both animal and human health – locally and globally,” she said.

The last four years have seen a major shift in avian influenza in terms of geographical spread, with increased spillover to mammals and massive losses in domestic birds, impacting food security and driving up prices for poultry products, the Members were told. Large numbers of wild birds have succumbed to the disease, harming biodiversity with at least 300 newly affected wild bird species since 2021.

FAO called on countries to take several measures to address the global avian influenza challenge:

Enhance surveillance and reporting

Improve laboratory capacity

Develop and implement preparedness plans and plan for business continuity

Promote risk management through biosecurity

Consider a potential role for vaccination in risk mitigation

Strengthen outbreak response

Foster regional and international cooperation

Raise awareness

Bechdol said "FAO remains fully committed to global monitoring, sharing information, and providing guidance and tools to support all our Member countries tackle this serious threat". She also emphasized that partnership with the private sector is vital. She described the sector as the key stakeholders in HPAI prevention and control, playing a crucial role in ensuring safe and responsible value chains, developing new technologies for vaccines and diagnostics, and providing good quality animal health services.

Funding proposals call

The meeting also included a third call for funding proposals for initiatives to be undertaken by the Pandemic Fund, hosted by the World Bank, with which FAO has co-led dozens of projects in the last two years.

Pandemic Fund projects aim to improve disease surveillance, develop early warning systems, strengthen health infrastructure, and promote cooperation across human, animal, plant and environmental health sectors. The Fund aims to attract additional resources, incentivize increased investments from countries, enhance coordination among partners, and serve as a platform for advocacy.

Among the other participants in the session were Permanent Representatives from Indonesia and Senegal and representatives from the International Poultry Council, the World Egg Organization and Health for Animals.
| 1 | Industry | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2025-03-24 00:05:28 | 2025-08-06 05:32:57 | Details Edit Delete | |
5949 | VLAM: Pork and poultry prospecting trip to Vietnam | From 5 to 9 December, VLAM organized a prospecting trip to Vietnam to further develop the opportunities for Belgian pork and poultry. Company visits, participation in a trade fair and a networking moment were the successful ingredients for a successful mission for the Belgian exporters who traveled along. |
Southeast Asia has been in the crossroads of Belgian exporting meat companies for many years. Thanks to EU funding, a stronger export program can be developed within VLAM to give Belgian companies a boost in this far-flung market. The development of logistics facilities for frozen meat offers growth opportunities for Belgian meat.

The EU is Vietnam's main foreign supplier of pork (76,000 tonnes in 2021 or 43% of total imports). Belgium has a market share of 2 to 4% of total pork imports. The import of poultry meat from the EU has been on the rise in recent years and amounted to approximately 30,000 to or 17% of the import value in 2021. In 2020, Belgium joined the top 10 suppliers of poultry meat to Vietnam.

Belgian Meat Office, the meat export agency within VLAM and active on the Vietnamese market since 2013, developed a three-part program for a special mission to Vietnam from 5 to 9 December.

Two days (5 and 6 December) were provided for the Belgian delegation to visit a cold store, a retailer that works with imported meat, the largest wholesale market in Ho Chi Minh City and a pig slaughterhouse just outside the city (Củ Chi). More insight was gained into the route the meat takes to the consumer in Vietnam and how opportunities and threats are assessed. The exchange of information and experiences was enriching for both the visitors and the Vietnamese players.

Subsequently, participation in the specialized trade fair Food & Hotel Vietnam was on the agenda. The fair had approximately 300 stands from 30 countries and is an important meeting place for food professionals in Southeast Asia. The fair allowed Belgian exporters to explore the market and make new contacts.

There was a broad representation of European companies, which found shelter in a European pavilion. For the last two years, US suppliers have struggled to re-enter this market.

An event was hosted by the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) and the US embassy in Riyadh to mark this moment. More than 100 importers, foodservice operators, chefs and retailers attended the “U.S. Beef Kickoff” event.

The event proved to be very successful, underscoring the high level of interest in U.S. beef following the lifting of the recent BSE-related ban. It was not only a celebration, it was also a perfect venue for educating our guests about the excellent quality of U.S. beef and the many ways it can be featured on restaurant menus and in foodservice applications", said Eliane Elia, USMEF representative in the Middle East.

The importance of the Saudi market for the American beef industry was underlined by the president of USMEF, Dan Halstrom, who declared"for EuroMeatNews that the industry has to rebuild this market for US beef.

"We have the very high-end US grain fed beef and also products from the middle sector, like casual and fast casual dining for our costumers here. Egipt is also a big destination market for some variety meat, like livers, and the growth prospect and the potential in this part of the world are very exciting for our members.
A really exciting country that we just regained access last year is Saudi Arabia. We've been out of there a while for various reasons. I would say that Saudi Arabi is probably one of our primary focuses to re-establish the presence of US beef in 2018", declared Dan Halstrom, president and CEO at US Meat Export Federation, in an interview for EuroMeatNews.

Other markets that are now growing are in South and Central America but also South Africa and West Africa mentioned Halstrom during the interview.
| 1 | Market | 2018-04-02 12:07:02 | 2025-08-06 05:33:20 | Details Edit Delete | |||

Compared to April 2024, the increase was 27.6% in revenue and 15.3% in exported volume, according to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex/MDIC), compiled by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (ABIEC).

Noteworthy was the growth in exports of beef fat, which increased 199.4% in volume compared to April last year. Processed meats (+11.5% in revenue), offal (+11.8%) and salted products (+62.2%) also showed positive performance, signaling the diversification of the export agenda.

Among the destinations, China maintained the lead in April, with 107.8 thousand tons exported (39.4% of the total) and US$ 530 million in revenue. This represents a 41.3% share of the total volume exported.

The United States more than quintupled its purchases in the four-month period, totaling 135.8 thousand tons and consolidating its position as the second largest destination for Brazilian exports (14.3% share). Completing the list of the top ten markets are: Chile (39,819 t), Hong Kong (33,711 t), the European Union (29,777 t), Egypt (27,421 t), Russia (27,397 t), Algeria (24,985 t), Mexico (24,313 t) and Saudi Arabia (20,909 t).

“This performance is a direct result of the integrated work of the entire Brazilian livestock chain, from the producer to the exporting slaughterhouse, and of the image of quality, sustainability and reliability built over the years. Although only about 30% of national production is destined for export, this volume represents one of the main sources of foreign exchange generation for Brazil, supplies hundreds of municipalities and ensures full use of the carcass, including products other than domestic consumption. We remain committed to supplying the world with excellence and contributing to the growth of our country”, says Roberto Perosa, president of ABIEC.
| 1 | Market | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2025-05-16 00:30:38 | 2025-08-06 05:33:26 | Details Edit Delete | |

5543 | UK meat has a great opportunity in online | In 2021, online’s share of grocery sales plateaued at 10.3%, up 3.9 percentage points (%pts) on pre-pandemic levels (2019) according to an AHDB analysis. However, its growth is predicted to accelerate with share hitting 11.2% in 2027, accounting for £1 in every £9 spent on grocery (IGD, UK Channel Forecasts, June 2022). This will be driven by channel innovation, new fulfilment capacity, expansion of rapid delivery services and an appeal among budget conscious consumers. 72% of shoppers buy groceries online because they find it easier to control their spending (AHDB, Online Meat Shopper Journey, 2019), resonating with the current cost of living crisis. |
Undoubtedly the pandemic had a huge impact on online grocery shopping with the number of households using the channel increasing by 11%pts at the peak in 2020, according to Kantar. The channel typically over indexes among family shoppers but the pandemic bought in a new older shopper. Since then, penetration has reached saturation, remaining at 39% in 2021. However, among those already shopping online, the frequency of grocery shops is increasing (an average of 22 times online in the year), with an average spend of £71 per shop. In the last year, meat, fish and poultry (MFP) sold online has been worth £2.6bn, accounting for 12.2% of total MFP sales (Kantar, 52 w/e 15 May 22). It is a particularly important category to drive higher spend due to its price point.

Sales of MFP online have been boosted by the increase in shopper numbers with volumes up 57% compared to pre-pandemic (Kantar, 12 we 17 April 2022). However, MFPs growth online is slowing faster than total grocery and as yet some MFP categories do not achieve their fair share of the online market. Fish, pork and added value have done particularly well online versus pre-pandemic, with promotional support boosting these categories. As shopping online naturally means shoppers can’t interact with products (56% claim they find it hard to buy meat online because they can’t see it according to AHDBs latest research), higher priced proteins and cuts, like lamb roasting and beef marinades, under perform online.

Therefore, for meat to reach its full potential online the category needs to better engage shoppers through improving the shopper experience.

| 1 | Industry | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2022-06-30 07:23:45 | 2025-08-06 05:33:54 | Details Edit Delete | |
2257 | Brazil to export bovine and poultry genetic material to Saudi Arabia | Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA) has announced this week that the country has received approval to export bovine and poultry genetic material to Saudi Arabia. |
Authorities from Saudi Arabia have approved the International Animal Health certificate models developed by Brazil for its bovine and poultry genetics. Saudi Arabia has thus authorized the Brazilian imports of fertile eggs, day-old chicks, in vivo bovine embryos, in vitro embryos and bovine semen.

The sanitary negotiations between Brazil and Saudi Arabia started earlier last year with a market prospecting action launched by MAPA which identified "a business opportunity to export these commodities to the Saudi market".

Minister Blairo Maggi stressed the importance of Saudi Arabia as Brazil's trading partner, which imported more than US $ 2 billion worth of Brazilian agribusiness products in 2017. In addition, he stressed that the opening of new markets helps diversify the tariff and contributes to reaching the goal of 10% of Brazil's share in the world market for agricultural products.

The director of MAPA's Department of Animal Health, Guilherme Marques, added that Brazil's successive market openings with Saudi Arabia are due to the country's international recognition for its poultry and bovine genetics.

"The level of biosafety implemented by establishments producing Brazilian genetics and poultry lineages allows them to develop products with quality and productivity," said Marques. "The health advances of the last decade were recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) last May as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination. Also, Brazil has never had any cases of avian influenza."
| 1 | Industry | 2018-11-28 12:27:38 | 2025-08-06 05:34:03 | Details Edit Delete | ||
