5228 Brazil reports 81.5% increase in egg exports UAE continues to be the main destination for Brazilian eggs, accounting for 50% of total egg exports.
Brazil exported 11,300 tons of eggs last year, an increase of 81.5% from 2020 when just 6,200 tons were shipped. In terms of value, the growth was 80%, totaling $18 million. Considering only the month of December, egg exports totaled 2,490 tons, a figure 72.8% higher than that recorded in the last month of 2020, with 1,440 tons. In revenue, there was an increase of 102.6%, with $3.99 million registered in December 2021, against $1.97 million in the previous year. "December had the highest volumes exported in 2021. Production costs have significantly squeezed the sector's margins, with the two main inputs – corn and soybean meal – increasing, in some cases, by more than 100% between one year and another. Exports help to alleviate the challenging scenario faced by laying poultry," explains Ricardo Santin, ABPA President.
The United Arab Emirates continues to be the main destination for exports, with 6,900 tons exported in 2021, a volume 105% higher than the same period last year. It is followed by Japan, with 1,100 tons (+270%), and Oman, with 408 tons (+183%). Other highlights are Qatar, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia, according to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).
    Industry 2022-01-17 12:37:46 2025-08-13 06:48:11 Details Edit Delete
2382 Brazil reports higher volume of beef exports to China Last year, the South American country has sent 44% of its beef exports to the Chinese market.
The Brazilian Association of Meat Exporters (ABIEC) announced that the beef exports sent to China in 2018 accounts for 44% of all beef exported. According to the association, totall beef exports are expected to reach 1.626 million tonnes in 2018.
2019 could bring an increase in the volumes of beef exported to China, said ABIEC president Antonio Camardelli, who predicts an increase in exports by 200 million tonnes, which should generate revenues of $7.26 billion.
Camardelli is very optimistic about the development of the Chinese market for Brazilian beef as a Chinese delegation was visiting Brazil in the last quarter of 2018 to determine conditions at six units that intends to start exports to the Asian country. At present, 16 Brazilian units are authorised to export meat to China.
    Market 2019-01-04 08:18:32 2025-08-13 08:37:01 Details Edit Delete
3801 Brazil reports record exports of pork in Q1 Shipments for Q1 2020 stood at 224,600 tonnes, up 27% on 2019 and the highest level of Q1 exports for the country on record.
Statistical data from Brazil shows that the country is heading for a record year in pork exports as shipments to Asia are increasing month by month. In the first quarter of the year, Brazilian pork exports have reached 224 tonnes, up 27% from the volume reported in the first three months of 2019. It is also the highest level of Q1 exports for the country on record. "Latest figures for March show exports were up 29% on the same month in 2019, totaling 77,400 tonnes. January and February volumes were up 35% and 19% year-on-year, respectively.

An almost three-fold increase in exports to China during Q1 (+63,700 tonnes) drove the overall rise. This follows a year of steep growth in shipments to the country amid protein shortages from ASF," commented Hannah Clarke, AHBD analyst. Shipments to Hong Kong, Japan and Vietnam were also higher on the year, although at a slower pace compared to that of China.
According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), pig meat exports from the country have not been overly affected by the outbreak of COVID-19 so far. Research from Rabobank confirms this, as Brazilian food production and trade have continued following the government decree that the work is essential. According to Rabobank, all pork processing facilities in the country are still operating, but there is some concern over grain availability for producers if haulage is affected.
The only concern about the pork exports to China is regarding China's refusal to allow any other Brazilian processor to enter the market until the COVID-19 crisis is over.
Meantime, the Chinese authorities have approved more Spanish plants for pork exports.
    Industry 2020-04-21 09:08:44 2025-08-11 21:48:33 Details Edit Delete
5005 Brazil reports record meat exports for September It is the largest volume exported monthly for the last 24 years, according to Gov officials.
Brazil's September meat exports were the highest in the last 24 years, according to official data. Last month, Brazil exported 187,017 tonnes of fresh, chilled and frozen beef, 101,897 tonnes of pork and 388,951 tonnes of poultry meat and edible offal, all over 20% higher on the year. The September figures are the largest volumes for the month since the foreign ministry began its time series in 1997, according to Agricensus.

Furthermore, monthly volumes lifted total exports since the beginning of the calendar year to all-time highs, with beef at 1.27 million tonnes, pork at 776,620 tonnes and poultry meat at 3.2 million tonnes.

The outstanding performance of Brazil’s beef and pork exports is underpinned by China buying 56% of beef and 55% of pork shipments to date were bound to the Asian country. China remained the main destination market for Brazilian poultry meat exports, claiming 16% of volumes shipped in September.
Poultry meat volumes bound to China in the first three-quarters of 2021 fell 3% on the year but were more than offset by rising demand from other markets, especially Mexico, Philippines, Chile, United Arab Emirates and South Africa.
    Industry 2021-10-13 07:39:51 2025-08-12 02:20:36 Details Edit Delete
2026 Brazil reports the first case of CSF in years The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply has confirmed the outbreak of Classical Swine Fever (CSF).
Brazilian authorities confirmed the outbreak of Classical Swine Fever in the city of Forquilho, in the northern state of Ceara, outside of the disease-free zone recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
The disease was confirmed in a backyard farm comprising 130 pigs, of which 115 got sick and 112 have died. Culling and destroying the animals were the first measures taken by the local authorities and now "an investigation will take place in a 10 km radius and also in all properties with some epidemiological link", according to a statement from the ministry.
Recognised by the OIE this year, Brazil’s CSF-free zone covers 17 states and concentrates more than 95% of Brazilian pig population but Ceara is not one of them. The total export of Brazilian products and pigs comes from this free zone that has not been affected by CSF since January 1998. The last time CSF occurred in Brazilian territories outside the free zone was in October 2009. A CSF outbreak was also reported last month in Japan.
    Industry 2018-10-10 07:00:28 2025-08-11 18:43:37 Details Edit Delete
4634 Brazil revises poultry production outlook An increase in production costs has made chicken meat producers reconsider their options.
Poultry production in Brazil is going to slow down this year as production costs are getting higher than anticipated. "The level of costs was higher than we anticipated and the economic recovery in these first months was below our expectations. Still, we are not talking about a drop in production compared to last year, but a slowdown in growth," the president of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) Ricardo Santin said in a statement for Broadcast Agro. To circumvent the costs, companies have taken some measures, such as reducing the housing of broiler chicks and shortening the average age of slaughtered chickens. For now, the state of Rio del Sul, one of the largest poultry producers in the country is talking about reducing accommodation in poultry farms by 30%, 15%, or 10% depending on the market in which the companies are selling their products. The most exposed producers are those who are supplying the domestic market, while exporters may hold on longer because the exchange rate effect helps to alleviate part of the increase in costs. In Santin's view, the tightest months will be April and May, while lots of off-season corn do not enter the market. In July, the president of ABPA already expects a reduction in costs and a greater resumption in domestic consumption. "Demand from the domestic market has slowed, but remains strong, mainly because of the movement of substitution in protein consumption that started with the coronavirus pandemic," he recalls.
As a result, the outlook for production growth for 2021 was revised downward from 5.5% to 3.3%, according to ABPA.
    Industry 2021-04-21 13:29:39 2025-08-13 03:34:28 Details Edit Delete
7925 Brazil sets new record for beef exports in October Shipments of Brazilian beef abroad reached a new record in October, reaching 301,166 tons, with revenue of US$ 1.36 billion. In the first ten months of 2024, the volume exported increased by 29.9%, reaching 2.4 million tons, while revenue grew by 22.8%, reaching US$ 10.5 billion.
According to the analysis by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec) on the figures released by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), in the first ten months of 2024 alone, beef exports in Brazil have already practically equaled the result for the entire year of 2023, when the country exported 2.29 million tons, generating US$ 10.5 billion. The trend for the end of this year, according to Abiec, is for records to be maintained until December.

"To give an idea of the size and efficiency of Brazilian beef exports, it is enough to say that, in October, more than 400 containers were shipped per day from Brazil", explains the president of Abiec, Antônio Jorge Camardelli, who also states that, in the same month, the average prices of exported beef recovered by 5%, driven by the 7.4% increase in the average price of fresh meat .

China, Brazil’s largest market, imported almost 159,595 tons. "This confirms, once again, the partnership between the two countries. Today, China has a 54.4% share of the amount of beef exported by Brazil, and this is the result of a day-to-day effort to conquer and maintain this market, for which we have the partnership of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, ApexBrasil", argues Camardelli, who was in China, participating, with Abiec and ApexBrasil, in the China International Import Expo (CIIE), in Shanghai. The exhibition is an initiative of the Chinese government, through the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, in partnership with the municipal government of Shanghai, and also has the support of several international organizations, such as the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

United States remains the second largest buyer of Brazilian beef, with volumes of 27,940 tons and revenue of US$159.3 million last month. This represents an increase of 10.4% in volume and 12% in revenue compared to last September. The Philippines was the third largest destination for Brazilian beef last month, with 11,369 tons exported and revenue of US$42.7 million.

Considering the categories of beef products, 270,332 tons of fresh meat were exported ( representing almost 90% of the total), 16,022 tons of offal, 8,547 tons of processed meat, 2,926 tons of tripe, 2,824 tons of fat and 515 tons of salted beef.

In 2024, the ten largest buyers of Brazilian beef accounted for approximately 80% of all exports from Brazil. Markets such as China also stand out here, with volumes of over 1 million tons and revenue of US$ 4.8 billion between January and October, registering a 12.7% increase in volume shipped and a 3% increase in revenue compared to the same period in 2023.

The United States recorded a significant increase in shipments this year, of 69%, reaching 175,193 tons, with revenue of US$ 1.02 billion (an increase of 58.7% compared to the same period last year). The United Arab Emirates, with shipments of almost 125 thousand tons, Hong Kong with purchases of close to 100 thousand tons, Chile (86,587 tons), the Philippines (80,472 tons) and Egypt (78,080 tons), also deserved to be highlighted.

For Camardelli, the outlook for exports in the last two months of 2024 will depend on the balance between domestic market demand, as the end of the year approaches, and the possibility of industries negotiating what the foreign market has been demanding. "But, in any case, 2024 tends to close its results with record exports for beef both in volume and revenue", he concluded.
    Market adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2024-11-18 00:15:53 2025-08-13 08:34:36 Details Edit Delete
5223 Brazil sets new record in pork exports 1,13 million tonnes of pork were exported in 2021, according to ABPA figures.
Brazilian pork exports ended 2021 with a total of 1.13 million tonnes. It is the highest result ever achieved by Brazilian exporters in a single year and exceeds by 11% the volume exported in 2020 (old record), with 1.02 million tonnes.
In terms of value, sales in 2021 reached $2.641 billion, a result 16.4% higher than that achieved in 2020 ($ 2.270 billion) In December, the sector's exports totaled 89,700 tonnes, a volume 7.3% higher than that recorded in the same period in 2020. In revenue, the increase was 0.9%, with $191.53 million in the last month of last year, against $189.88 million in 2020.
"Exports were an important instrument throughout 2021 to minimize the impacts of the historic high in production costs. Asia remains the main purchasing region for our pork and is expected to remain in 2022 as our main partner. Russia should also once again be an important partner for Brazil in the year ahead," evaluates Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
China was the main destination for Brazilian pork (533,700 tonnes, up by 3.9% from the figures recorded in 2020). It was followed by Chile, with 61,000 tonnes (+ 39.2%). Vietnam, with 44,900 tonnes (+11.4%), Argentina, with 37,800 tonnes (+97.5%) and the Philippines with 33,400 tonnes (+321.5%).
"The privileged sanitary status and the confidence of the nearly 100 countries to which we export pork in 2021 suggest a 2022 with good expectations for the sector's exports, even more so in a scenario in which several countries competing with Brazil on the international stage face problems with African swine fever and with other production factors," added Mr. Santin.
    Industry 2022-01-13 09:22:42 2025-08-13 06:26:26 Details Edit Delete
8081 Brazil sets record for beef exports in 2024 worth US$ 12.8 billion With successive records month after month, 2024 will go down in history as the year with the largest exports of Brazilian beef.
A total of 2.89 million tons were exported, an increase of more than 26% compared to last year. The volume exported generated US$ 12.8 billion, approximately 22% more than the amount earned in 2023. This result, according to data from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), compiled by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec), places the sector ahead of others that contributed to the positive balance of the Brazilian trade balance in 2024, of US$ 74.6 billion. The promotion of national beef in the world is driven by the Brazilian Beef initiative, the result of the partnership between the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) and Abiec.

China maintained its position as the main destination for Brazilian beef, with 1.33 million tons exported, generating revenue of US$ 6 billion. Next came the United States, which imported 229 thousand tons, totaling US$ 1.35 billion. Other important markets include the United Arab Emirates (132 thousand tons and US$ 604 million), the European Union (82.3 thousand tons and US$ 602 million), Chile (110 thousand tons and US$ 533 million) and Hong Kong (116 thousand tons and US$ 388 million).

Considering the 15 largest destinations for Brazilian beef in 2024, which together represented more than 90% of total revenue, there was growth in all of them, compared to 2023. The most representative increases were recorded for Algeria, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, Philippines, United States, Russia and Israel.

Adding up all categories of beef products, the sector's exports throughout the year reached 157 countries. When considering only exports of fresh meat (which represent more than 90% of the total value), there were 132 markets, 46 more markets in the last decade.

"It was a historic year for the national beef industry, for the livestock sector and for Brazil. The decisive contribution to the positive trade balance is proof of this, and was already expected. Although it is still too early to make a prediction, I believe that 2025 has everything we need to break the record in exports and also in revenue", celebrates the president of Abiec, Roberto Perosa.

According to Perosa, the numbers reflect the joint effort of both the private sector and the Federal Government, through ApexBrasil, which, together with Abiec, is developing the Brazilian Beef Project, to open new markets and consolidate those already conquered for beef.

"We have markets to open that represent a large portion of the global beef consumer market, including Japan, Vietnam, Turkey, and South Korea. Some of them are at different stages of negotiation. But, together with the Brazilian government and the Ministry of Agriculture, we will fight to ensure that 2025 is the year that gives us the opportunity to take Brazilian beef to these destinations", he concludes.
    Market adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro 2025-01-13 00:10:13 2025-08-13 11:36:20 Details Edit Delete
5398 Brazil targets Panama for poultry and pork exports ABPA is currently increasing its presence in the Caribbean and Central America.
The market director of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), Luís Rua, and the trade promotion analyst, Nayara Dalmolin, led last week a sectoral action with potential customers and stakeholders in Panama.
Held in Panama City, the initiative had the participation of Clóvis Serafini, from the Department of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture, and Jônathas Silveira, from the Department of Agribusiness Promotion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The action, carried out in partnership with the partnership of the local Embassy of Brazil, focused on building strategic ties between animal protein producers in Brazil and the Panamanian market.
On the occasion, ABPA representatives, together with members of the Brazilian Government, discussed cooperation and trade opportunities between the two nations. Among the main agendas was the possibility of opening up the Panamanian market to Brazilian exports of poultry and swine meat, in addition to poultry genetic material.

“At a time when the health situation of the international poultry industry is severely impacted by several outbreaks of Avian Influenza and African Swine Fever, Brazil, which is the only major exporter not having records of the diseases, makes itself available to Panama to contribute with the stable and reliable supply of high-quality animal protein”, evaluated Luís Rua, ABPA's director of markets.
Another action was held earlier in the Dominican Republic, aiming to increase Brazilian pork exports to the country.
    Market 2022-04-01 12:08:10 2025-08-13 04:04:31 Details Edit Delete
5376 Brazil targets the Dominican Republic for pork exports The island, comprising Haiti as well, has become highly dependent on pork imports since the first ASF outbreak was reported in August last year.
The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), with the support of the Brazilian Embassy in Santo Domingo, held an event yesterday focused on negotiations to open the Dominican Republic market for Brazilian pork, increasing the number of authorized poultry establishments to export to the country, as well as the opening for genetic material from birds. The event aimed to reinforce Brazil's differentials as a reliable supplier of animal protein to the Caribbean country.

The objective, according to the market director of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), Luís Rua, was to strengthen ties with importers, stakeholders and local leaders, with the aim of, among other things, offering the possibility of Brazilian pork in addition to the local supply, which suffers from the severe impacts generated by the occurrences of African Swine Fever and with supply difficulties due to the lower availability of imported product from traditional suppliers.

“The Dominican Republic has been consolidating itself in recent years as an important trading partner of Brazil in the poultry meat trade. We are available to assist the country in other proteins as well. 4344 Brazil to break the record on pork exports The total amount of pork shipments abroad is estimated at 1,03 million tonnes.
Brazilia pork producers are set to achieve a historical record on pork exports, with a volume of 1,03 million tonnes for the year of 2020, higher than the 750,000 tonnes exported last year, announced ABPA in a press release. Brazilian pork production could reach up to 4.3 million tons this year, a number 8% higher than that reached in 2019, with 3,983 million tons.
In the domestic market, consumption may total 3.3 million tons, up 2% more than in 2019, with 3.233 million tons, leading to per capita consumption of 15.3 kilos. According to the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, these numbers are historical records. This is the case of pork meat production and exports, chicken meat production and per capita egg production and consumption.
“Despite the highly challenging moment experienced this year, with costs at historical levels and the economic and social impacts caused by the pandemic, poultry and pig farming in the country will end the year with positive results. At the same time that they supported the country's food supply in the midst of the crisis, they fostered new job opportunities and the economy of hundreds of cities where they are located, with a direct impact on the national economy, ”says Santin.
Brazilian chicken meat production could reach up to 13.8 million tons in 2020, up 4.2% from 13.245 million tonnes produced in 2019. Shipments from the sector, on the other hand, may reach 4.23 million tonnes, a number that is 0.5% higher than the figure registered last year, with 4.214 million tonnes.
With this, the total expected availability for the domestic market should reach 9.6 million tonnes, a volume 6.3% higher compared to the same period of 2019, with 9 million tonnes. Per capita consumption is expected to reach 45 kilos in 2020, a 5% increase compared to that recorded in 2019, with 42.84 kilos. Egg production is expected to reach 53.5 billion units produced in 2020, 9.1% more than in 2019 when 49 billion units were produced.
The sector's per capita consumption is expected to reach 250 units this year, 8.7% more than the index registered in 2019, with 230 units.
    Industry 2020-12-11 11:27:59 2025-08-12 20:58:16 Details Edit Delete
4697 Brazil to build the largest pork plant in Latin America An investment of $470 million will be made in a large processing unit located in the state of Parana.
A large, integrated pork processing unit is to be built in Brazil in 2023, according to official information released by the authorities in the state of Parana. This will be the largest processing plant in Latin America, covering a floor space of 147,000 square meters, with a total processing capacity of 15,000 pigs per day.
With the expanding scale of the pork industry in Brazil and its increasing number of plants as well, the pork production chain in Brazil will be further strengthened correspondingly with this investment estimated at $470 million, informs the local government.
According to official data, in the first 4 months of this year, Brazil's pork exports reached 311,000 tonnes, up 28% YoY. Among which, 178,000 tonnes were shipped to the Chinese mainland, increasing by 38% YoY. In addition, its pork exports to Hong Kong (36,000 tonnes), Chile (20,000 tonnes), Singapore (14,000 tonnes), and Uruguay (13,000 tonnes) were all beyond the 10,000 tonnes level in the same period last year.
    Industry 2021-05-20 07:12:13 2025-08-13 10:37:52 Details Edit Delete
5018 Brazil to deliver another livestock shipment to Vietnam Last month, a shipment of 14,000 head of cattle for slaughter was sent to the SE Asian country.
Despite the long distance between Brazil and Vietnam, the first livestock shipment from the South American country has arrived last month in the port of Thi Vai. Another shipment is expected to take place in December and that raises worries among Australian cattle exporters. Australia was the only supplier of live cattle in the Vietnamese market but Brazil looks like a strong competitor, with cheaper prices put on its cattle herds. That will surely reduce the level of livestock exports in the SE Asia region for Australian cattle breeders, although there is no reason to believe that Brazil will soon surpass Australia's market share in Vietnam.
On one hand, Australian cattle have the highest animal health standards in the world and closer and geographic proximity to Vietnam. On the other hand, Vietnamese cattle importers may look for alternatives in livestock supply so they do not rely solely on Australia. According to the owner of the ship that delivered the first batch of Brazilian cattle to Vietnam, the mortality rate for the first shipmen was 30 head or 0.25% of the cargo. He also mentioned that the contract between the parties involves a total of 60,000 cattle head, which are to arrive until 2022.
    Market 2021-10-19 12:34:06 2025-08-13 04:36:02 Details Edit Delete
2257 Brazil to export bovine and poultry genetic material to Saudi Arabia Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA) has announced this week that the country has received approval to export bovine and poultry genetic material to Saudi Arabia.
Authorities from Saudi Arabia have approved the International Animal Health certificate models developed by Brazil for its bovine and poultry genetics. Saudi Arabia has thus authorized the Brazilian imports of fertile eggs, day-old chicks, in vivo bovine embryos, in vitro embryos and bovine semen.

The sanitary negotiations between Brazil and Saudi Arabia started earlier last year with a market prospecting action launched by MAPA which identified "a business opportunity to export these commodities to the Saudi market".

Minister Blairo Maggi stressed the importance of Saudi Arabia as Brazil's trading partner, which imported more than US $ 2 billion worth of Brazilian agribusiness products in 2017. In addition, he stressed that the opening of new markets helps diversify the tariff and contributes to reaching the goal of 10% of Brazil's share in the world market for agricultural products.

The director of MAPA's Department of Animal Health, Guilherme Marques, added that Brazil's successive market openings with Saudi Arabia are due to the country's international recognition for its poultry and bovine genetics.

"The level of biosafety implemented by establishments producing Brazilian genetics and poultry lineages allows them to develop products with quality and productivity," said Marques. "The health advances of the last decade were recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) last May as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination. 2492 Brazil to increase its consumption of beef and poultry Trade is still essential for the performance of these sectors and analysts are wary of another strike of truckers.
Local demand for animal protein such as poultry and beef is expected to rise in Brazil on the back of improving economic growth. "The gradual recovery of Brazil's economy in 2019 is expected to boost local demand across a range of key agribusiness sectors, including beef and poultry. Meanwhile, for poultry trade-related issues will be decisive for the local sector's performance,” says Andy Duff, Head of RaboResearch F&A – South America.
Last year, a massive strike of truckers has blocked the local meat industry for a while but the effects were felt in time.
Although the decline in international oil prices at the end of 2018 has helped to bring local fuel prices down, the former government's hasty compromise with the trucking sector following last year's strikes has yet to turn into a clear long-term agreement, with consensus on all sides and a solid legal basis. “The uncertainty regarding road freight rates contributes to an ongoing general risk for Brazilian agribusiness in 2019. Given this continuing uncertainty, the threat of another round of freight disruption in 2019 cannot be ruled out,” added Mr Duff.
On the other hand, the EU placed a ban on several Brazilian poultry producers due to the "rotten meat" scandal and there is still uncertainty regarding the trade with Middle East countries as the new president, Jair Bolsonaro, mentioned the fact that he intends to move the embassy in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.
The measure was criticized even by the president of Brazil’s poultry & pork exporters association ABPA, Francisco Turra, who describe it as "bad for exporters" due to the risk of losing some of their businesses to countries in the Middle East.
    Market 2019-01-29 05:13:48 2025-08-12 00:03:52 Details Edit Delete
