5764 | Brazil: Pork exports reached 102,700 tons in September | Brazilian exports of pork totaled 102.7 thousand tons in September, informs the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). The number is 8.5% lower than that recorded in the same period in 2021, when 112,200 tons were shipped. |
In the same comparative period, pork sales reached revenue of US$ 244.3 million, a result 4.5% lower than that recorded in September last year, with US$ 255.8 million.

"The average price of international pork sales has been recovering significantly since June this year. In September, average prices were at levels close to those seen at the height of the international African Swine Fever crisis, when there was greater pressure from the global market for animal protein. It is a positive sign for the behavior of exports in the second half of the year and for the minimization of losses in the Brazilian swine industry in the first half of the year. It is also worth mentioning the diversification of markets throughout 2022, with Brazil increasing exports to countries in all regions of the world," analyzes ABPA’s market director, Luís Rua.

Year-to-date, pork sales reached 825,000 tonnes, 5% lower than when shipped between January and September 2021, with 868,800 tonnes.

Total revenue accumulated in the first nine months of 2022 reached US$ 1.851 billion, 10.2% lower than the figure for the same period in 2021, with US$ 2.061 billion.

"Ships of pork have been gradually recovering the levels of exports throughout the year. In the first quarter, the monthly average was below 80 thousand tons. In the following three months, Brazil reached a monthly average of over 90 thousand tons. In the third quarter, we exceeded the monthly average of 100 thousand tons, which signals a better-than-expected end of the year, in relation to the projections drawn at the beginning of 2022, at levels close to those carried out in 2021," evaluates the ABPA president, Ricardo Santin.

Main destination for Brazilian pork exports, China imported 46.9 thousand tons in September (-12.1%), followed by Hong Kong, with 8.1 thousand tons (-48.5%), Chile, with 7 .1 thousand tons (+46.2%), Philippines, with 6.4 thousand tons (+53.2%), Vietnam, with 5.5 thousand tons (+26.3%) and Angola, with 4.5 thousand tons (+92.4%).
| 1 | Market | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2022-10-12 04:55:09 | 2025-08-13 04:12:21 | Details Edit Delete | |

Also noteworthy were sales to Hong Kong, with 51.3 thousand tons (+21.1%), the Philippines, with 38 thousand tons (+17.5%), Chile, with 34.2 thousand tons (+69.6 %) and Singapore, with 29 thousand tons (+5.7%).

Largest pork exporter in Brazil, the state of Santa Catarina exported between January and May a total of 261.6 thousand tons (+14.3%), followed by Rio Grande do Sul, with 110.8 thousand tons (+19 .8%), Paraná, with 66.4 thousand tons (3.66%), Mato Grosso do Sul, with 10.9 thousand tons (+70.8%) and Mato Grosso, with 10.1 thousand tons (+ 93.9%).

"This month, it is worth highlighting the exports to the newly opened market of Mexico, one of the three largest importers in the world, and which has already placed itself among the ten main destinations for pork meat in Brazil. In turn, even with an increase of more than 20% in the volume purchased in the year, China has reduced its percentage share of total Brazilian exports, showing the success of Brazil's market diversification policy, including the possibility of opening new markets in the short term", analyzes Luís Rua, Director of Markets at ABPA.
| 1 | Market | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2023-06-10 00:15:42 | 2025-08-13 03:56:20 | Details Edit Delete | |
6622 | Brazil: Pork production could break the 5 million tons barrier this year | After facing one of the most severe crises in its history, pig farming in Brazil is entering a recovery phase, with slightly more positive prospects for this year. |
According to the president of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), Ricardo Santin, pork producers and agroindustries across the country have experienced a period of intense challenges over the last three years, in the face of the adversities generated by high production costs and the global pandemic. In this context, cases of companies and pig farmers operating at a loss were not uncommon, however, maintaining the production flow.

"The producer was resilient in his activity and helped to preserve the food supply and the supply of Brazilian families. After a challenging period, we see a more positive picture, with perspectives for advances in the domestic and international scenario", he analyzes.

The numbers back up this slightly more optimistic outlook. According to ABPA, pork production should break the 5 million tons barrier for the first time in history. In the international market, a new record is expected, close to 1.2 million tons shipped to more than 90 destinations that import the Brazilian product.

These projections are based on the behavior of the sector presented so far, explains Santin. According to ABPA surveys, Brazilian pork exports are already 15.6% higher this year, with around 590 tons exported in the first half of 2023.

As well as exports, Brazilian per capita consumption should also show growth in relation to the 18 kilos registered in 2022, according to the initial ABPA projections.

"Brazil has taken the space of other major international players, such as the European Union, reinforcing our country's role in global food security. In this context, we finally have a breath with a gradual retraction in the prices of corn and soybean meal, which is an encouragement compared to the accumulated increases of more than 150%, registered between 2020 and 2022. The increases in other inputs such as diesel, energy, plastic and cardboard still persist. However, there is a positive perspective and producers and agroindustries are currently experiencing a moment of balance in their accounts", analyzes Santin.
| 1 | Market | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2023-07-31 00:05:27 | 2025-08-13 05:24:45 | Details Edit Delete | |

6680 | Brazil: Poultry and pig farming should register high production and exports in 2023 | In a press conference, ABPA projects an increase in production and exports of poultry, pork and eggs from Brazil. |
The year 2023 should be marked by further increases in production and the international presence of poultry and pig farming in Brazil. These are the projections of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), presented at a press conference held at the association's headquarters in São Paulo.

According to ABPA, chicken meat production should reach up to 14.95 million tons produced over the 12 months of 2023, a number 3% higher than that recorded in the same period last year, with 14.52 million of tons.

The availability of products on the domestic market should reach 9.85 million tons, a volume 1.5% higher than the 9.70 million tons registered in 2022. With this, the per capita consumption of chicken meat should remain at 46 kilos in this year, 1.5% higher than the 45.2 kilos per capita recorded in 2022.

For the first time in history, the sector should overcome the barrier of 5 million tons exported, if ABPA projections are confirmed. This year, the entity's expectation is for total shipments of 5.20 million tons, a volume up to 8% higher than the shipments registered in 2022, with 4.82 million tons.

"Brazil should continue to gain space in the international market. This is, in part, thanks to the expansion of business with the main commercial partners and the reduction in shipments from the main competitors of Brazilian exporters. At the same time, a better balance between supply and demand can already be seen in this second half, with more reasonable production costs after three years of historical highs in the price of the main inputs", assesses the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

In the case of pork, ABPA projections also point to exceeding the total of 5 million tons – in this case, for production. In all, the country is expected to produce 5.05 million tons of pork this year, up to 1.5% more than the 4.983 million tons produced in 2022.

The availability of products for the domestic market should remain stable in relation to 2022, with a total of 3.85 million tons. The same should also occur with per capita consumption, repeating the index of 18 kilos registered in 2022.

The projection for exports is 1.25 million tons, 12% higher than the export of 1.12 million last year.

"The opening and expansion of several relevant markets on the international pork trade board, combined with sustained demand from the main buyers in Brazil, reinforce the prospect of growth in shipments. In this sense, in view of the maintenance of internal demand, production should consolidate around five million tons", evaluates the director of markets, Luís Rua.

In the case of the egg sector, total production in the country is expected to reach 52.55 billion units in 2023, 1% higher than the 52.06 billion units produced in 2022.

The per capita consumption of eggs in Brazil is expected to end the year around 242 units, a number 0.5% higher than the 241 units per capita consumed in 2022.

In exports, projections indicate total shipments of 32.5 thousand tons of eggs from Brazil, a number 240% higher than the total exported in 2022, with 9.47 thousand tons.

"There was a change in egg export flows in 2023, with a significant gain in relevance from Japan and the newly opened Taiwanese market. 5812 | Brazil: Poultry and swine sectors project almost 900 million dollars after SIAL Paris | Deals closed at the event exceed US$ 180 million, after an action organized by ABPA & ApexBrasil that enabled the participation of 23 agro-industries. |
After five days of busy schedules with business meetings, tastings, promotion of the sector's image and prospecting for new exports, the action organized by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), in partnership with the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (ApexBrasil ) at Sial Paris, ended positively in closed and projected deals.
Ending on Wednesday (19), the sector action carried out during one of the largest food fairs in the world generated hundreds of millions of dollars in business for the sector and the country, from the strategic actions supported by the international brands Brazilian Chicken, Brazilian Pork, Brazilian Egg, Brazilian Breeders and Brazilian Duck.

During the days of the event alone, the 23 agro-industries integrated into the exclusive space of ABPA&ApexBrasil at SIAL closed US$ 182 million in business, according to surveys carried out with exporters. The business projected for the next 12 months is even more expressive, expected to reach US$ 833 million, according to the participating companies. More than 3,500 importers and potential customers visited the space during the five days of the event – 1,300 of them are new contacts.
And ABPA members were heavily involved at SIAL Paris. In all, 23 agro-industries confirmed their participation in the ABPA space. Among them are: Bello Alimentos, C Vale, Copacol, GTFoods, SSA, Zanchetta, Somave, Avenorte, Jaguafrangos, Aviv ar, Vibra, Villa Germânia, Vossko, Lar, Coasul, Rivelli Alimentos, Netto Alimentos, Dália Alimentos, Alibem, Ecofrigo Bugio, Frimesa, Pif Paf and Saudali.
Outside the entity's area, other associates were present. This is the case of Cooperativa Central Aurora Alimentos, BRF, Frigoestrela, Pamplona Alimentos and Seara Alimentos, which participated with their own areas or through partnerships, agribusinesses do business and prospect new opportunities for poultry and swine farming in Brazil.

The participation of Brazilian poultry and swine farming in SIAL Paris was not limited to business. In the gastronomic area, thousands of dishes based on Brazilian poultry meat were served. The space, led by chef Marcelo Bortolon, promoted the service of traditional dishes in Brazilian cuisine (original and adapted) such as roasted chicken with polenta, chicken stroganoff, chicken schnitzel, risottos and chicken cuts with cream cheese.
At the same time, promotional materials with information about associates and the production chain were distributed during the action, detailing issues such as product quality factors, production chain data, Brazilian health status and the sustainable profile of production. The materials were delivered to space visitors, stakeholders and other contacts relevant to the Brazilian sector.
ABPA also received several national and international authorities during the 5 days of the fair.
The action also included the participation of the sector in SIAL Talks – a space for debates in the midst of SIAL Paris. Sustainability and the role of animal protein producers in Brazil was the theme of the presentation made by ABPA President Ricardo Santin, who highlighted the technological development and natural competitive factors that make Brazil a safe haven for the global supply of animal protein. With Santin, the technical director of ABIEC, Cínthia Torres and George Candon, PR consultant in Europe at ApexBrasil, participated in the SIAL Talks.
Another highlight of ABPA & ApexBrasil's action was the launch of the book “Halal Poultry – From Brazil to the World”. The work, signed by photographer Manoel Petry, tells in images, facts and data the representativeness and part of the history of Brazilian production and export of halal chicken meat. The work is the result of a partnership between ABPA and ApexBrasil, together with the certifiers CDIAL Halal and FAMBRAS HALAL, as well as with the support of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
In its almost 100 pages, the book shows images about the care and respect for Islamic precepts applied by Brazilian exporting companies over almost five decades of exports, in a solid relationship that made Brazil the largest exporter of halal chicken meat in the world – with annual shipments of close to 2 million tons of products.
“The action in the French capital exceeded our expectations. We promoted actions in several strategic lines and, as a result, we achieved exceptional results in exports for the country, in addition to image gains and strengthening of ties with customers that go beyond the European Union, reaching Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The financial numbers confirm the result of the action, strengthening Brazil as a safe port for the supply of proteins to the world”, highlights the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.
| 1 | Events | adrian.lazar@industriacarnii.ro | 2022-10-28 03:02:01 | 2025-08-12 11:13:21 | Details Edit Delete | |
