To deliver this, we need buildings to be updated and replaced at a steady rate.
“Our knowledge of the types and ages of buildings in use is poor, as is our understanding of what is driving investment and what the barriers to investment might be.”
    Industry 2018-11-01 06:39:09 2025-08-12 00:47:59 Details Edit Delete

After being submitted to the European Council, the draft will be sent to be ratified by the European Parliament early in 2019, according to official Vietnamese sources, quoted by Seafood Source magazine.
Once the deal comes into effect, about half of the import taxes on seafood products from Vietnam to E.U. will be removed immediately after the agreement comes into effect, with the remainder eliminated within seven years from the effective date of the pact.
Vietnam will have annual quotas for duty-free imports of 11,500 metric tons (MT) of canned tuna and 500 MT of canned fish balls in the single market. 2146 Australian sheep sector to remain strong in the next five years A Rabobank analysis shows that that are segments among consumers that are willing to pay more for sheep meat and by-products as long as they meet the requirements for quality, authenticity, and transparency.
Global consumption of sheep meat is expected to increase at a 1.6% CAGR over the next five years with prospects for value growth in new markets.
There will be limited volume growth in wool consumption as supply remains under pressure from the current dry conditions, but Rabobank believes that continued demand from both traditional markets and new consumers will help sustain the value growth for wool seen since 2015. "Wool and lamb are well placed to leverage existing characteristics and target new consumers," according to Angus Gidley Baird, RaboResearch Senior Analyst – Animal Protein.

Millennials would pay more for sheep meat and other produces resulted from this sector as long as those items will respond to their demand in terms of quality, authenticity, and transparency. "Australian sheep producers are already well placed to capitalise on these new markets as they have a good reputation for quality. However, there will be strong competition from alternative fibres and proteins for these same markets and producers will need to continue to look for improvements in the areas of transparency, quality, and flexibility", added the analyst.
    Industry 2018-11-06 11:48:02 2025-08-11 16:43:15 Details Edit Delete

2148 Two major feeder pig producers, Denmark and Netherlands, are under financial pressure Higher feed costs have reduced the margins for feeder pig by 23% compared to 2017, according to a Canadian analyst.
The inventory numbers for the pigs in the EU may be steady in the last few years but the profitability is in decline, observes Jim Long, president and CEO at Genesus Canada.
"One indicator of market trouble is the collapse of feeder pig prices now at €33 per head, 23% lower than a year ago. This reflects more supply than demand and is putting large financial pressure on two major feeder pig producers: Denmark and the Netherlands. Feeder pig prices are seen to be challenged by higher feed costs. The average hog price in EU is around €1.45 kilogram, which is a good price for America but not great for EU producers", commented Mr Long in his Global Market report.
That is explaining also why the trade block is the world's largest exporter of pork. Export data presented by the European Commision shows that in the first eight months of this year EU exported 2,564,438 tonnes of pork.
Over a third of EU’s exports go to China, who is a big market for EU and have done a much better job capturing the market compared to the United States, despite weekly hog prices significantly higher, mentions the report.
"Obviously EU hog prices are higher, but we don’t sell market hogs into export markets. We sell pork. We don’t have all the correct data but we expect if we had the wholesale pork cut-outs prices the difference would be much narrower due to the fact that the US packer gross margins have been historically high over the last three years. EU packer margins haven’t been as good. Consequently, the pork prices between countries in much narrower than hog prices would indicate", added Jim Long.
Inside the EU, Spain has by far the largest sow herd and total inventory. Over the last ten years, Spain has had dynamic growth as the integrator model they employ has worked very well relative to independent producer model of Northern Europe. In the last 12 months, the country reported an increase of 5.2% in its live swine inventory. Spain is followed by Ireland and Poland, both with a 4.2% increase, and Denmark (+3.3%).
    Industry 2018-11-06 15:59:42 2025-08-11 16:06:25 Details Edit Delete
2149 Danish Crown's new factory to deliver 250 tonnes of pork per week in China
Even if is not producing yet, the new factory that Danish Crown is preparing in China is already signing big deals in this market. For the next five years, all the capacity at the new plant will be used to supply Win-Chain, Alibaba’s data-driven aggregated global sourcing platform for perishable food.
"It is fantastic for Danish Crown to land such a big contract with Win-Chain and the Alibaba Group. At one fell swoop, our products will be made available on Win-Chain’s digital platforms and also in the Alibaba-owned supermarket chains throughout the Shanghai region", says Jais Valeur, Group CEO.
The two companies have started to work closely since August last year when an agreement was signed on the sales and marketing of Danish Crown products on Alibaba’s Tmall, the largest B2C platform for international and Chinese brands and retailers. From summer 2019, this cooperation will be extended to embrace a far wider range of products which will all be processed and packed at the Danish Crown factory in Pinghu outside Shanghai.
"Danish produce enjoys an excellent reputation and Danish Crown products already have a large and loyal customer base in China. Danish Crown’s integrated farm-to-fork production ensures produce of a uniformly high quality, and Chinese consumers are also attracted by the strong focus on innovation and sustainability. We look forward to working closely together to bring quality Danish meat products to the over 600 million annual active consumers on Alibaba’s platforms’", commented Richard Wang, Managing Director Fresh Meat in Win-Chain.
Danish Crown has successfully exported pork to China for a number of years, but until now, customers have mostly been Chinese distributors and processing companies. However, consumption patterns in China are changing rapidly, and getting closer to the Chinese consumer is one of the cornerstones of Danish Crown’s strategy.

"The Chinese market is evolving very rapidly at the moment, and there are actually three things happening all at once. First, e-commerce is exploding, with consumers buying the products they want online and having them delivered to their front door only a few hours later. In my view, Shanghai now has the world’s most advanced market for e-commerce. Next, instead of buying fresh meat at the so-called ‘wet markets’, consumers have started purchasing retail-packed products in the supermarkets, in exactly the same way that we shop in Denmark. Finally, a growing number of Chinese are eating out, similar to the trend we are seeing in the US and Europe. We are now moving further up in the value chain in China, and I see significant potential in this", says Jais Valeur.

In the spring, Danish Crown broke the ground for the group’s first processing facility in China. The 17,000-square-metre new facility will be sited less than 100 km from Shanghai. It has been designed to produce 14,000 tonnes of processed products a year, first and foremost for the more than 25 million people living in Shanghai, but also for the rest of the Chinese population, which currently stands at almost 1.4 billion people.
    Industry 2018-11-06 16:12:26 2025-08-11 14:40:48 Details Edit Delete
